Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

As a side, our idiotic school district took it upon themselves to ban all apparel depicting Native Americans.

Now, just waiting for a bona fide Native American to come to school wearing a T-shirt that proclaims how proud s/he is of her/his heritage.... these administrators are so literal, could be some fireworks...

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

The freaking circle-jerking whine about political correctness is so pervasive in this thread that one might actually forget about the genocidal rampage inflicted upon the aboriginal people of this country by ridiculously self-righteous illegally immigrating white people in the name of their equally ridiculous mythological being.

College Hockey Fandom: The Last Bastion For Old-School White Racism?

The old name is gone. Stop with the whining about why. If there is ever any reason to ban a UND fan from coming into your arena it's enough that they're a UND fan.

Thanks Donnie. As usual, your opinion counts.

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

With how modest I am I could never say that myself. But just the fact that you think so means an awful lot to me. Thanks.

Just like the massive ethnicism against the Irish early in the 1900s, but the "Fighting Irish" name remains.

Also insert every other Indian nickname out there that survives, because they earn $$$ or the tribe has been eradicated, so there's no one to really oppose it.

Re: Should UND fans wearing Fighting Sioux gear be denied admission to NCAA arenas?

A subtlety that had escaped me entirely until you raised it.

You win the thread.

Much like a state supreme court judge told the district court judges marry them all or marry none I think the tribal names should all be allowed or all be banned. And if any particular tribe doesn't want their tribal name used I say get rid of it and act as if they don't exist. Florida State might be next if this pc crap continues. I wish some school would use the Sac & Fox name. Instead of Mavericks, Cowboys, Seminoles, Cornhuskers it would be the Sacs & Foxes. It has a nice ring to it. Well not really. I like the sound of the North Dakota Potawatamies or the Osages. Then they could blaspheme the national anthem with Osage can you see. OR,,, how about the NoDak Winnebagos.

Yes. It's "just like" it. Because something like 20 million Irish were killed. So yeah ... there's that. Thanks for straightening that out. Seriously though, you trot that tired argument out after this BS has been going on for years here? You know ... the um Irish immigrants? ... they embraced the stupid stereotypes foist upon them by the existing population of Americans of the time. Embraced. Sure, were Irish immigrants mistreated? Yes. Every wave of immigration in US history has had plenty of that nastiness. They were categorically not stripped of the lands they inhabited, murdered both at random and via genocide, possibly deliberately infected and then when their numbers were sufficiently diminished rounded up into stinking refugee camps and marginalized as humans for 200+ years.

Well I guess if the Seminoles are ok with FSU then FSU must have done right by them in some way eh? Perhaps UND should have historically treated the Lakota peoples of North Dakota in some manner in which they would have supported it. But you know what? UND didn't. End of story. Except it's not ... because the racism is still alive in the hearts of many many NoDaks as evidenced by the support for "RoughRiders" ... It could have been any symbol that represented something that attacked aboriginal people out of racist spite because the tribes didn't support them.

Please continue to assert logical fallacies though.

I am under the impression Roosevelt recruited a diverse group of cowboys, miners, law enforcement officials, and Native Americans to join the Rough Riders in 1898. It's time for me to do a little research. ;)

I have to agree with you if UND treated the Indians with more respect we are not having this debate.

No offense, but this is a really silly question.

He did recruit Indians to fight with the Roughriders, hence the name suggestion. However, others failed to research Teddy's opinion on Indians. As usual, uaafanblog is going for clickbait trolling, as he is an idiot.

My question to uaa is...so racism/ethnicism is different due to results? So the Irish weren't a people that the US were trying to eradicate, but still were held in the same regard as Indians, and that makes them a people where "less racism/ethnicism" applied? Are there different degrees to this? 1st Degree Racism and such? You really lower my opinion of you with every post. And that is a difficult task.

On a slightly different note but kind of in the same ball park I was watching PBS discuss immigrants. They said many American's back in the early 1900's would use the N-word as a derogatory comment towards the Italians as many of them have darker skin. It's not out of the possibility the Irish may have been treated the same way but things do change as time goes on.

the only worthwhile and accurate thing you have said in this thread

Perhaps your ignorance stems from the fact that you are not from around here, and consequently are ignorant of the history of the area.
The Sioux are only in ND because:
1) Their “brothers” the Ojibwa kicked their butts out of northern Mn, they were at constant war with each other thoughout their history with each other.
2) Like a bunch of cowards they went on the warpath against women and children while most of the white males in the area were off kicking white trash butt from down south in the War Between the States.
3) Ended up getting their butts kicked by the MN militia and consequently had their leaders strung up and the rest interred and finally shipped off to this gawd awful state.

If you are going to whine about “the white man” “stealing their land” then you should also whine about the Ojibwa “stealing” their land as well. And if you want to whine about genocide, how about some tears for the unarmed women and children they raped and murdered?
And one of the Sioux tribes did approve the “Fighting Sioux” name, so did the other, but that tribes leaders don’t care about their people, they are more concerned about control and power, and consequently did not approve the name.

The Irish never faced a plight anywhere near that of Native Americans. I think it has far less to do with racism than it does with genocide. But even the racism angle is enhanced by the fact only one group was targeted en masse, stripped of their land and forced onto reservations.

Bingo.

The Irish were not on the same level, and if that what was taken from my post, I apologize for not wording it better. However, the Irish were greatly prejudiced against, which led me to question if there are degrees to this. How much prejudice is enough to get rid of a nickname?

There needs to be a PC crowd to come out against a name. without a bunch of liberals ranting and raving about it, it doesn't matter how prejudicial something is.
