SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

That is not what I saw. He did hit him in the face mask but not square. It was shoulder to shoulder.

He didn't hit him on the side or shoulder. He might have hit some of the inside or chest part of shoulder.

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

Whats worse is that bushleague announcer trying to say he took a drive and knew it was coming.... he had no clue that hit was coming and to sit there and say he did when you are a so called hockey guy is a joke! I get they want to be homers for the big ten team but that is a joke!

I was perplexed to say the least at Andringa's comments tonight. if Eddy knew Woods was coming he'd brace himself or move out of the way. I really don't know what Andringa was thinking and I normally really enjoy his insight and he was an excellent UW player, etc but jeez

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

I really hope Eddy and Oliver are ok.
If not we are down to 8 forwards and a max of 10 guys up front.
Motzko may have to start looking on campus for former HS players just so he can have practice.
Who did we **** off to lose this many guys?

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

the face mask which is the head......

Not according to the wcha refs. A couple years ago, a BADger got hit in the facemask with an extended forearm. Eaves said when he questioned the ref's call, the ref told him the BADger was hit in the face, not his head.

Rammer kept his elbow in tight to his body the whole time, and it was shoulder to shoulder. I think it looked really bad with the 2 BADgers in the mix and a broken stick flying 40 ft, so the ref assumed it was a dirty play. It was a top 5 hit of the year in the league is what it was.

The Woods play was dumb, but it wasn't a 5. The husky player fell parallel to the boards, not into the boards. And Woods didn't fly in at full speed either.

Little's hit on Lee was kind of cool, you just don't see a goalie get nailed like that, but obviously it was a dump thing to do.

That was probably Adam, he just makes **** up.

This one always confuses me. What are the NCAA rules on this? They didn't announce what the penalty was. Was it goalie interference?

Just to be clear, I'm not saying that it wasn't a penalty, I am just trying to get clarification on what the rules are relating to a goalie out of the crease.

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

I only got to watch until the end of the 2nd, but SCSU looked solid to that point. Go Prochno!!! :)

He and Dan Kelly gave the impression that BTN plucked two random people off the street who knew nothing about hockey to call that game. I hope no one who had ever watched hockey caught the game tonight. They got absolutely no insight on how hockey is actually played.

Well...they got insight. But it was really stupid insight.

well...yeah...Kelly knows hockey I think @ the NHL level but he's not well-versed w/NCAA. Case in point, he said tonight something along the lines of "the badgers normally re-load" or to that effect, and under Eaves and the last 6-8 years of Sauer that hasn't been the case so basically for about 20 years of NCAA hockey Wisconsin hasn't re-loaded and you'd think he'd note that they'd had/have their ups and downs. etc., "

as for Andringa it was just an off night on his call on the Eddy hit. other than that he was good imo.

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

I am not a UW fan by any means and I actually know Oliver and his family, but that was a textbook clean hit by Ramage. No charge, no elbow, not to the head. Nothing. He read the play far in advance and unfortunately Oliver was on the bad end of a sucker pass. His feet were not moving, his shoulders were down, and his arms didn't come up.

Just my thoughts from a completely unbiased observer.

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

Here we go again...

No, Marvin left his feet and targeted the head with a lift.

In the replay, you can see clearly that Ramage is very careful to stay on the ice and keep his body rigid so as not to come up high.

If tonight's hit is illegal, then open ice hits just need to be declared illegal and let's be done with it.

But the 2 hits were not "exactly" alike. Just give up on trying to make Marvin into a clean player via revisionist history. Nobody's buying that.

Lest you think I'm just a homer, the hit on your player at the regionals in Minneapolis by our player was "exactly" like Marvin's and I agreed with the call at the time and still do.

Are you being obtuse? Here is the video of Marvin hitting Blake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HI7g-mmH0jM

In my opinion it seems folks are missing the point here - of course it was a clean hit by "traditional" standards but why is anyone surprised it was called??? We have the luxury of replay, refs made a call on a bang, bang play. We all know they're trying to protect players so why is anyone surprised??

I remembered the hit wrong in terms of the leaving of his feet. I feel terrible that I misrepresented Mr. Marvin.

But you have to agree that Marvin targeted the head with his shoulder. He was aiming for Blake's head and that's why he extended his torso in an upwards manner. You know, to target the head.

The hits are not "exactly" alike.

Are we going to go over this every time there is an open ice hit? Jan's gonna come running in here to say "See, see! Marvin was an angel just having a little fun playing hockey!"

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

Marvin's hit to Geoffrion was by far not one of his worst ones- the Genoway one stands out. I still think you could argue that he was aiming high, even if it was just with his shoulder and not an elbow, but there have been much worse hits in the WCHA- including others by Marvin himself.

Of course, none of that is really relevant, since you can't really draw a very fair comparison to Ramage's perfectly clean hit and it ultimately has nothing to do with the Badgers once again ****ting the bed this season.

Spare me the sweeping generalizations because I didn't say anything of the sort. The hits are not "exactly" alike but they are very similar. I agree Marvin made more contact to the head then Ramage did. My main point is the refs made a call that given the state of the game is completely within reason.

Besides, we should be focusing on the late game goonery by your squad! Now that was some serious hackery. I think we can all agree on that. :)

Re: SCSU @ UW: Hey, I can see the basement from here!

We need Euro's and Weldie's takes on this hit as they were there at the game.

I'm neutral in the discussion as well and I thought it was a clean hit as well. The reason it looked like a head shot on replay is Ramage drove right through Oliver because he hit him so perfectly. He hit Oliver in the upper chest with a shoulder and the combination of the force Ramage hit him with combined with Oliver's head being down a bit gives the appearance of a head shot.

Sadly, I think these days that any time a ref sees a stick go flying and a guy down on the ice after a hit, the knee jerk reaction is to call a penalty whether the hit was clean or not.

In the end, it didn't make much difference on the outcome. UW looked terrible.

It was a clean hit, there just happened to be contact with his head.
