SCOTUS 15: Help Us, Ruth Bader Ginsburg! You're Our Only Hope!

As for the pissing contest between the various side of the Democratic Party...the ones to blame here are the ones who didn't vote for Hillary. (which plenty of Bernie supporters did myself included) It doesn't matter their reason, their background or what wing of the Party they are from. This was a binary choice and if they chose to protest, that is their right, but it is our right to point out that history will not be kind to them because the 2016 Election will be one that is studied forever. (ask Nina Turner)

I have used this example before but it perfectly illustrates the situation. Years ago Maher was interviewing Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine. Morello was railing about the two party system and how the parties weren't that different and was giving great examples. (the man is very well learned especially on stuff like this) This was long before 2016 so it wasn't about any of that but he definitely was defending not voting Democrat because it was too Centrist. Maher pointed out that thinking like that is fun in the abstract but in the real world it does great damage using Flo(R)ida as an example where enough people on the Left voted third party or abstained that the GOP got complete control and gutted every social service and education and so on, which of course were the things the Dems were running on. In a classroom or at a rally sticking to your guns is amazing, in the real world you are likely cutting off your nose to spite your face.

For some people 2016 was the same way. Maybe they thought Trump would lose so a protest wouldn't matter, maybe they hated Hillary, maybe they were just dicks who wanted to burn the system by voting Jill Stein...whatever the reason they were wrong then and if they don't admit it they are wrong now. They shouldn't be burned at the stake over it...but they look like fools whining about this stuff when they could have done the right thing and prevented it. Like the people who protested Trump after the election but admitted they didn't vote. Fuck you. The 2016 Dems lacked pragmatism.

Oh...and fuck James Comey.

I’m referring to more like, add justices - at least 13 to Match the circuits and then so something about the goddamn voting rights

Voting rights is dead unless the Senate Majority gets to at least 55 Senators. Manchin and Sinema won't fix the Filibuster even for just a single issue. Joe can put forth bills or EO some basics but it will have zero teeth thanks to Sinema, Manchin and I would guess a few others.

As for expanding the Court...politically speaking he should not do that before the Midterms. He does that and the GOP has the best talking point there is. They won their victory...they will in theory be less motivated. You float the expansion of the Court they will be back to make sure that never happens. Any shot of holding the House is dead on arrival.

Joe is filling vacancies on the courts about as fast as the Senate allows but yeah he needs to keep doing that for as long as he can.

Kepler,

Agree on leadership backing away from ending the Filibuster. If AOC wants to rail on it go for it but there is no way Manchin will do it cause his constituents don't want him too. Sinema doesn't care even though she is polling so low she would be primaried if she was up next year. The only way to fix the issue is to take them out of the algebra.

Manchin and Sinema's legacies could include the end of voting rights and abortion rights in the United States. I hope they are sleeping well.

According to Susan Collins this was settled law. We used to have Republicans who believed in Roe V Wade. That is no longer the case. Drunky McRapist assured that. A game show host has been held to a higher standard than the fucking Supreme Court. Digest that for a minute.

Susan Collins was about the only Republican who thought that. The rest wanted it dead.

Susan knew this was coming and wants it dead, she just needed to look like she didn’t.

i don’t think murkowski wanted it dead, she just didn’t act like a grandstanding ***** like Susan

Yeah Susie got herself a nice haircut and new outfit before her speech to Congress. Murkowski doesn't care that she looks like the female Gremlin from Gremlins 2.

That's part of what I think the SC wants to sort out, why this can't be allowed to work.

Oh horse hockey. If that's what they wanted, that's exactly what A TRO is for, to maintain the status quo to give everyone ample time to sort things out. Which is why Roberts sided with the liberals.

Put another way, if this was a NY law about guns instead of a TX law regarding abortion, there's no way the decision comes down the same way.

The 5 most conservative members on the Court knew exactly what they were doing.

This might actually help Dems in midterms

It probably won't. Dem voters have never been motivated by the Culture Wars, so why would that change now? The only way this helps is if it keeps the suburban women who put Dems over the top in 2018 and 2020 engaged, but that will require allowing Republicans to go apesh*t with enacting these crazy laws in other states.

They may see TX and think if they don't get of the sofa that could happen in their state, too.

In a sane world this would end the GOP as a national political force -- you can't win with 90% of women voting against you. But it's not a sane world, and 35-40% of women still support the GOP.

The Mouth Breathers are a large enough cohort to take this nation over. They did it quite recently.

Yep. They sent a message clear as day.

I disagree. Dems need an issue to stay engaged and this gave them one. Not only that but it just made the "Slippery Slope" argument legit. The argument always was Roe was safe because the GOP would never risk all that fundraising...plus the Court would hold with precedent. The GOP and The Court just threw that out the window so now everything is in play.

On Meet the Press, RIch Lowry claims that Roe hasn't been overturned and this was just a procedural decision "This was a procedural ruling that clearly was the correct one. There was no harm here yet."

A real lawyer's response to Lowry's BS. By the way, Lowry is one of those "true believers".

Justifying Texas’ public vigilante/bounty hunter law by saying it’s like laws that let whistleblowers come forward with claims that expose fraud & abuse in gov’t & share in $ recovered is bogus. This is the level of sophistry being practiced to justify taking away our rights.

There’s no precedent in our law for letting a state deprive people of their constitutional rights by incentivizing private citizens to sue them in a one-sided proceeding that penalizes the people whose rights are being trampled, & claiming the state isn’t responsible for the law.

Once again proving that white conservative men get to offer opinions and thought.

anyone care about hearing from a woman?

will the nyt go profile poor brown women in diners and ask how they feel?

"The Court has made their decision; now let them enforce it."
