Scores and Highlights 09-10

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Badgers cut the deficit to 2-1 on a hard work goal by Geena Prough.

shots are even at 21 all
Unfortunately for the Badgers, that's the way it ends. 2-1 UMD win. Final shots were 29-27 for Wisconsin, but they couldn't punch it past Harss a second time.

UMD pulls within 7 points of Minnesota in the WCHA standings, while Wisconsin reamins 11 points back and in a tie with Bemidji State for 3rd.

PC hung on for the win 3 - 2!! (And the series sweep!). Way to go, Friars!

Friars had an agenda this weekend, and stuck to it. They played some tough hockey, and UNH was slow to respond. The third perod today was as entertaining a 20 minutes of hockey as I've seen in a long time.

Congrats to Coach Deraney on his 200th career win. Too bad it will be so memorable:(

All tied up after one. Real snooze fest. Huskies took 11 minutes to get their first shot on net, and that one came from the neutral zone.

Wildcats put 8 on Schelling, but are trying to be too fine with the puck. Need to just shoot.

Shots: UNH 8, NU 4

Huskies 2 Wildcats 1

Huskies 2 Wildcats 1

Ok, getting a little more entertaining now.

Wildcats scored on the powerplay after a knee on knee collision on Kelly Paton by Gavronsky. Not long after the Huskies killed off a powerplay and were the beneficiaries of a top of the crease turnover that Casey Picket put topshelf to tie the game.

Another sloppy play at the blueline allowed Kristie Kehoe to dump the puck into the corner, where Lindsay Berman tracked it down and threw a dart to Kelly Wallace in the slot. Wallace promptly put that one by Herman to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Julie Allen ties the game, beating Schelling through the wickets from high in the right wing circle after cutting across the zone from the left wing.

Wildcats scored on the powerplay after a knee on knee collision on Kelly Paton Sr. F 5'-1" by Gavronsky So. D L 5'9" . .

Not entirely sure, given the height differential, that that is humanly possible:p

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Surprised not to see any updates here, so here's the recap from the WCHA (with the home team in CAPS):

WISCONSIN 5, St. Cloud St. 3 - Carolyne Prévost with the hat trick and the game-winner for the Badgers, while Felicia Nelson scored two for the Huskies.

Minnesota-Duluth 3, MINNESOTA STATE 1 - Rough game with 18 minor penalties (9 on each team) called. Laura Fridfinnson with a goal and two assists for the Bulldogs, and Jennifer Harss with 33 saves for the victory.

MINNESOTA 3, North Dakota 0 - Laura May with an unassisted goal in the first that proved to be the game-winner. Noora Räty with the 18-save shutout.

OHIO STATE 5, Bemidji State 2 - Hokey Langan goes off, scoring 4 goals  and assisting on the 5th for the Buckeyes, and Raelyn LaRocque with 3 assists. Erin Cody scored both Bemidji State goals.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

As you've seen from previous posts, my "highlights" often include details of the full experience apart and aside from the game itself. Well here in Syracuse, aside from the rink complex featuring a neighborhing short skating oval which just happens to have an orange ice surface (go figure!), a very spirited student body came out in support of the "Orangemen" for last night's game....so proud of their Orange that after the handshake, while the Lakers were leaving the ice, actual oranges were thrown in their direction!!! No intent to hurt anyone....just symbolic of the fact that the Orangemen were still there and have no intention of being forgotten.

(Maybe Brown fans could do something similar.....oops, no, bad idea!)

Love that college spirit!!!

Oh, and the player introductions are pretty cool too, featuring multi-colored spotlights in an otherwise dimly lit arena and a rotating crystal dance ball hanging over center ice sparkling in all directions.

Hux, this is definitely not the venue for you my friend....no concession stand, just two vending machines and nothing within reasonable walking distance.

Not to worry, whoopie pies travel well:p

Hmmm....Nice....I've been a casual Orange fan since my college days (basketball)......

I like the thought of "Brownies". You put a plate of those in front of me, and they'll be gone in no time flat. :D

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

I like the thought of "Brownies".
I thought Ice' meant they should throw Bears on the ice.

Last night's win over the Orange allowed Syracuse to take the TUC category away from Minnesota and reclaim #1 in the PWR. I thought Syracuse might be able to steal a point from the Lakers over the course of their 4 meetings, but last night's result makes that look doubtful. I'd expect MC to remain #1 thru the rest of the season and conference tournaments.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

PC 2 - BC 1. OT Final.

A very up and down game where the Eagles greatly outshot the Friars in the 1st 2 periods. Final shots were 30+ to 22.

The game ended in a tie despite several questionable calls by the refs (on both sides). PC was the recipient of one such gift at the end of the game and BC had one in OT. Neither team could do much with it and the tie was finally broken by a 3 on 1 goal by Jean O'Neill with 30 seconds left in OT.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Total nailbiter but Northeastern ultimately prevails over Niagara 2-1. A bunch of penalties in the 3rd, including a NIA game misconduct with 5 seconds left.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Also just saw this score: SCSU 4, Wisconsin 3.

Comments from anyone who saw the game?

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

St. Cloud really stepped up to the challenge and especially Nixon (goalie for St. Cloud). Wisconsin's offense is good and can score enough goals to win games, but they need to do something to allow fewer goals. They have freshman in key defensive roles and they need to step up to get this done. It was a fun game to watch, nearly 3,000 people, a respectable contingent of the Wisconsin band at the game and of course, Bucky skating between periods.

Once again the badgers had control of the game and failed to capitalize and build on a their lead two separate times. SCSU kept finding ways to pull even and then ahead in the game. If Ruegsegger cant learn to stop beating herself and quick I see little chance of her splitting time with Rigsby coming in next fall.

This loss pretty much eliminates any chance at an NCAA birth, without winning the WCHA Tournament, as far as I am concerned. It will also most certainly take the badgers out of the top 10 for the first time in a long time.

Disappointing weekend IMHO.
