Scores and Highlights 09-10

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Okay, new rule, in the NCAAs, we might as well just start every game at overtime because they're ALL going to OVERTIME, all seven games of the NCAAs!

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

Let's be fair now -- this BU team was pretty average most of the season, was not at all favored to win Hockey East, and had no buzz throughout the year. You would hope some fans would be willing to jump on the bandwagon now that they've accomplished something this weekend.

The .500 defending champion men are hosting Merrimack in a HE quarterfinal series. Is it really worth sticking around for that?

Speaking of the BU men, Jack Parker, their head coach was at the HE women's final today in Providence. I'm sure he was there to support his former assistant Brian Durocher who is the HC of the women's team.

Watching the replay of the game, you really have to feel for the UConn women. They deserve to go. They had a much better record than Clarkson over the past six weeks and beat Providence in the tournament semis. Sure they lost today but that should not have kept them from getting an invite.

Oh well, I suppose every year someone is going to get jilted. At least until the tournament expands to 16.

I agree, in fact I had just posted the following on another thread:
Just got to say, my heart goes out to UConn.....it took a perfect storm for them to be eliminated from this tournament. No offense to either Cornell or BU, hefty congratulations in fact, but think about it....

It took all of the following to occur to edge out UConn... 1.) BU upsetting UNH just to be in the final game 2.) Obviously BU beating UConn, but the final dagger was 3.) Cornell with the upset win over Clarkson. Again, obviously, if UConn beats BU they get the autobid, but I think even if one of the other two events had a different result we'd be seeing Huskies in the mix.

What a difference 24 hours makes....unreal!

Congrats UConn on a great season!

Aside from the players and coaching staff. Didn't see or hear from them much in the semi's. Didn't make the trip down to PC today so the crowd may have grown over night.
Looking through my scarlet colored glasses I saw far more BU fans than UNH fans on Saturday. I also thought that the BU fans made far more noise than the UNH fans did during the game. As for Sunday, I would say the attendance was about 50-50, which would be about 200 Terriers fans.

My family and I will be attending the men's quarterfinals, so we will miss the game next Saturday. However, I expect far more than 25 will make the trip to Mercyhurst.

Last week in the elimination round for HE, there were 20 or so UNH fans in the stands, then a few neutral women's hockey folk, and BC was actually pretty well represented. Attendance was listed at 281.
The tickets collected at the gate yesterday for the final were between 225 and 250 at a neutral site and only an hour (ish) from each campus.

There was not a single article in the Boston Globe this morning, nor did the major TV news stations breathe a word of the fact that BU won their first ever HE Championship and will be advanceing to the NCAA quarters.

There was instead a front Sport page article above the fold with color photo of Bill Belicheck's daughter, who is an assistant lax coach at UMass. Can't follow what you can't find.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

The BU-UCONN Hockey East final was televised on NESN Sunday night at 6 pm - they are replaying it again at 3 pm today.. It is still very disappointing not to see any local newspaper coverage - instead they do follow the local high school state tournament for girls ice hockey.. But making it into the NCAA tournament and winning their first Hockey East championship after just being a varsity program for five years --- that is very exciting for women's ice hockey, and especially to Coach Brian Durocher.. 5 years ago during the Inaugural season, the BU Terriers had their share of disappointments and yet, they had excellent recruiting and could see steady improvement and the program developed and earned respect. Maybe this will hemp improve fan support.

The ECAC changed its tournament format this year so that the highest ranked team for the final game hosted the final..so if the host team lost in the semi final, it would help boost attendance for the final. It really worked for Cornell who hosted their final and had over 1500 in attendance!!!
