Vicki Bendus scores for the Lakers at 5:08 of the second. Now only 2-1 Mavericks.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

And now Mercyhurst is rolling. Kelley Steadman scores 4-on-4 at 14:12 of the period to give the Lakers a 3-2 lead.

Then the penalty to the Lakers player expires, Mercyhurst goes on the power play, and Pamela Zgoda converts to make it 4-2 Lakers at 15:25.

Kyleigh Palmer tacks on the 5th Laker goal of the period at 19:14 to give Mercyhurst a 5-2 lead going into the 2nd intermission.

UConn took down Dartmouth 3-2 just now. Dartmouth pulled goalie but penalty with a minute left crushed their chances. Good day for both goalies though as they fought off a lot of shots.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

FINAL - Mercyhurst didn't let up on the gas in the third period. Goals by Jess Jones, Bailey Bram (shorthanded), and Meghan Corbett (power play) give them an 8-2 victory over Minnesota State.

IN PROGRESS - Ohio State 2, Robert Morris 1, second intermission. OSU leads on first period goals by Brittany Carlson and Christina Mancuso, but the Colonials' only shot on goal of the first period was in the goal by Sara O'Malley. Shots on goal are 23-6 in the Buckeyes' favor.

This one has now gone FINAL - Buckeyes 4, Colonials 1. Ohio State added a couple of third period insurance goals by Raelyn LaRocque and Melissa Feste (power-play), and outshot RMU 34-15.

Two first intermission updates...

End of the 1st - Providence 2, St. Cloud State 1 - SCSU's Felicia Nelson strikes first, but Providence responds with power play goals by Amber Yung and Jennifer Friedman. St. Cloud players made 4 trips to the sin bin in the first period.

End of the 1st - Union 0, North Dakota 0 - Game play in this one is pretty even, though UND does have a 10-5 edge in shots as they look to get the split in this non-cenference series.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

End of the 2nd - North Dakota 2, Union 0 - UND's Mary Loken opened the scoring with a goal at 15:03 of the second period, and Stephanie Roy increased the Sioux lead at 17:49 of the period. Shots are 20-11 in UND's favor.

In the 2nd, Felicia Nelson is keeping St. Cloud in the game against Providence. She scored her second goal of the game on the power play to tie the game 2-2, but Providence retook the lead 3-2 just 46 seconds later on a goal by Abby Gauthier. But Nelson just scored her third, completing the hat trick, at 14:13 of the second to pull the Huskies back into a 3-3 tie.

EDIT: St. Cloud and Providence ended the 2nd period tied at 3-3.

FINAL - North Dakota 5, Union 0 - UND's Mary Loken and Sara Dagenais scored just 11 seconds apart early in the third period (Loken's second goal of the game) to push the Sioux lead to 4-0 and force a goalie change for Union. Margot Miller also scored for UND later in the third on the power play. The Dutchwomen just couldn't come back, getting only 3 shots in the third period and 14 in the game. Jorid Dagfinrud with the 14-save shutout for the Sioux.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

FINAL - Providence 4, St. Cloud St. 4 (OT) - Felicia Nelson was on fire in St. Cloud, scoring 4 goals  and keeping the Huskies alive in their game against Providence. Her second, third, and fourth goals all erased Friar leads, with the fourth coming on an extra-attacker play with only 27 seconds left in regulation. On the other side, Providence's power play capitalized 3 times on 8 opportunities as the Huskies had trouble staying out of the sin bin.

EDIT: The two teams did play out a meaningless shootout (being a non-conference game) which St. Cloud "won" 1-0 in 4 rounds.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

My recap from Dartmouth at UConn is up with photos (though the lighting is rough in Freitas.)

Despite a UConn bowl game, a Men's Basketball Home Game, And a Women's Basketball game on TV and the holiday, there was still pretty normal attendance. A bit of an unusual game today. Hard to put into words.

Re: Scores and Highlights 09-10

So in short, the highlights from day one of the Easton Holiday Showcase in St. Cloud were as follows:

- Mercyhurst wakes up after being down 2-0 at the end of the first and steps on the gas to ultimately roll past Mankato

- Providence and St. Cloud play an intense and closely checked game, highlighted as Crazy Dave points out by Felicia Nelson's performance

- For those who have never been to a St. Cloud State home game before, the pre-game introduction of the home team and their starting lineup is on par with many NHL game intros.....the lights go dark, and a multimedia display appears on the ice set to the music "Are you ready for this", as each starter is then introduced via spotlight. Wild stuff!!!

- the real highlight of the day was my weather observation, as I watched the reading from my vehicle's dashboard go from -16 F in the morning, to -1 F by about 4 PM. Good thing it warmed up!
