RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

I'm surprised JL and/or Haggs weren't at least nominated....looks like they did take away one goal from Haggs & credit it to Nicky in the CCT game.

IFAIK, a team can only nominate one player for each award and neither of those is a rookie or goalie. :)

did not know that...actually, I didn't know the teams themselves were responsible for that. I thought it came straight from league headquaters merely based on stats.

My recollection is that the teams nominate. I could be wrong.

You're right RB -- Hags was on fire this weekend, regardless of what the box score reads. The kid had a 6th gear...

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

This doesn't really have anything to do with our recruits, so I will post it here. I googled the combination RPI and Jake Soffer to find out if there was any confirmation and this page came up. Soffer is indeed mentioned with his former AJHL team, and RPI is mentioned with a goalie who actually is playing for RIT.

Brown over Yale 1-0. Lots of shots but a fast paced clean game. The refs let them play and this one was over in under 2 hours.

Well, that's good news if we are looking ahead and not behind us. We remain only 2 points out of second place and Brown moves closer to the middle of the pack. Would've liked to seen a slower, hard hitting game which would have helped us more. Oh well, time to get ready for Brown on Friday...

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

True - RPI is only two points behind second place Yale.

Also true - RPI is only two points ahead of Brown and Clarkson, who are tied for eighth and ninth.

If you want to know how close this league is this year, think about this - if Brown had scored one more goal in their game against RPI earlier this year, they would be in the tie for third and RPI would be in the tie for eighth.

Honestly did not know who to root for and against in this one. of course i wanted us to remain closer to 2nd place. But at the same time, i wanted to put teams behind us even further back. The last 6 games for everyone are just going to be like this-we gain and lose something with each result. Hopefully we can do what we have to-just keep winning-and then we could care less about the other games.

Well, technically, they'd both be tied for 5th, but that's besides the point.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

My rooting interests this weekend (without respect to PWR considerations):

Colgate @ Harvard: Harvard (Harvard essentially cannot catch us; no downside to them winning)
Clarkson @ Princeton: Clarkson (keeps Clarkson close to us, but we're in a good tiebreak situation with Clarkson, whereas we cannot win a two-way with Princeton)
Cornell @ Dartmouth: Cornell (unlike Harvard, Cornell could catch us; however, I'm optimistic we can play well enough to keep them well behind us, in which case keeping Dartmouth off the board is far more important)
SLU @ Quinnipiac: Quinnipiac
Yale @ Union: Yale (this is a tough one; however, there is essentially no difference between finishing 2nd and 3rd, so we might as well have Yale keep their 2nd slot and keep Union away from the top 4 and 8)

Brown @ Union: Brown (we lose our tiebreaker with Union no matter what, whereas even a tie on Friday puts us in good tiebreak shape verse Brown)
Colgate @ Dartmouth: Colgate (but if we lose Friday, might prefer Dartmouth)
Clarkson @ Quinnipiac: Quinnipiac
Cornell @ Harvard: Harvard
SLU @ Princeton: SLU (we are in better tiebreak shape verse SLU than Princeton)

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Someone commented when the tentative schedule distributed at the BRF! was posted that the 10/13/13 game @ BC could be at MSG as part of a doubleheader with Cornell-BU as had been rumored from a BC blog earlier. It was noted that MSG is much closer to Bridgeport where we are scheduled to play SHU a day earlier than Boston is to Bridgeport. Also we are playing at BU on 10/18/13 and why make two trips to Boston just five days apart?

One problem is that 10/13 is before the Ivy League schools start to play, so there could not be such a doubleheader on that date. There is, of course, nothing to stop BC and us from playing in MSG without BU and Cornell if MSG is really interested.

Whoops! Of course, you're right. Somehow, I was crediting RPI with two points and Brown with none as the result of the tie.

Although, if we could convince the ECAC that that would be the proper way to credit standings points for tie games involving RPI...;)

Very good point. I agree though, it doesn't seem to make sense to make two tips to Boston 5 days apart - something else has to be going on here...

I would not be surprised if MSG has their schedule booked for 6 month-12 month sin advance all the time. They usually leave very few open dates avaialable. I have tried looking at any site related to MSG and events and find nothing for 10/13/13 as yet. Just sayin.....

The Cornell-BU match-up (and this year Cornell-Michigan) has sold out MSG each time they've played. So, unless they can charge significantly more for a double-header, there's not much motivation for splitting the pot further. However, MSG may be testing the waters on college hockey as a revenue source. In which case, it would make sense to schedule an early season match-up (before college and pro BB take up many of the prime dates) between two other teams that may have decent alumni followings in NYC to see if Cornell games are an outlier or an indicator of market potential. Just a theory................
