Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet
)
I forgot to write earlier that if RPI were playing BC at MSG, they probably would not have put it on the tentative schedule at this time. I suspect that the schools and MSG would make a joint formal announcement to get more publicity. The BC blog could have just been a leak.
If it were a doubleheader it could be separate admissions. The fact that DrD couldn't find anything scheduled for MSG for 10/13 is a plus, although I wonder if next year's NHL and NBA schedules are out yet. (Yes, RC, I could google that.The Cornell-BU match-up (and this year Cornell-Michigan) has sold out MSG each time they've played. So, unless they can charge significantly more for a double-header, there's not much motivation for splitting the pot further. However, MSG may be testing the waters on college hockey as a revenue source. In which case, it would make sense to schedule an early season match-up (before college and pro BB take up many of the prime dates) between two other teams that may have decent alumni followings in NYC to see if Cornell games are an outlier or an indicator of market potential. Just a theory................
