RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

The Cornell-BU match-up (and this year Cornell-Michigan) has sold out MSG each time they've played. So, unless they can charge significantly more for a double-header, there's not much motivation for splitting the pot further. However, MSG may be testing the waters on college hockey as a revenue source. In which case, it would make sense to schedule an early season match-up (before college and pro BB take up many of the prime dates) between two other teams that may have decent alumni followings in NYC to see if Cornell games are an outlier or an indicator of market potential. Just a theory................
If it were a doubleheader it could be separate admissions. The fact that DrD couldn't find anything scheduled for MSG for 10/13 is a plus, although I wonder if next year's NHL and NBA schedules are out yet. (Yes, RC, I could google that. ;) )

I forgot to write earlier that if RPI were playing BC at MSG, they probably would not have put it on the tentative schedule at this time. I suspect that the schools and MSG would make a joint formal announcement to get more publicity. The BC blog could have just been a leak.

Sensible. I don't know how busy October is for the garden-they have a pretty tight schedule with Ranger Hockey and Knicks Basketball starting. Bust i am sure it is all about the oney. If they can sell out an event they would book it. I would think a double header with the 4 teams mentioned they would sell out quickly, but they have to have an open date.

As pointed out, Cornell has sold out its games without having an seond game played with it. They could test the water with another pair, and BC and RPI makes some sense.

Or, the two schools scheduled a date in case the MSG deal fell through.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

... if Brown had scored one more goal in their game against RPI earlier this year, they would be in the tie for third and RPI would be in the tie for eighth.

The what if game is endless -- the same is true of RPI's ties vs. Q'pac and Princeton. Bottom line is we hold our future in our hands. Thats really all you can ask for this time of year.

October 13 would seem perfect as the Rangers would have started their regular season so the ice would be down but the Knicks would be early in their pre-season. I don't think they generally play exhibitions at the Garden until closer to the home opener. They let the suckers in places like Albany, Bridgeport, Trenton, etc. pay to see a court full of soon-to-be-cut players in the early exhibition season.

Good thoughts. I'll try to keep 10/13 open on my calendar anyway. ;)

Brown over Yale 1-0. Lots of shots but a fast paced clean game. The refs let them play and this one was over in under 2 hours.

Cautionary tale for Friday's night game. We can't look pass Brown, they are scrappy.

We can. it's the team that can't. ;) Seriously, based upon the results in the the game in Providence, I doubt anyone is.

Re: RPI Hockey 2012-2013 Part IV: Not A Finished Product Yet

Bored today-was trying to think when was the last time we won more than 6 ECAC league games in a row (the streak we are now on). I can only remember once (I think 1991-1992 ) when we won more without a league loss(we won 7 that year) dating back to 1984-85(when we won 19 or 20 if you count one more victory early the next year). I know we won 6 in a row in 2001-2002. I knew this little streak that we have been on was not common in our history-but I had no idea how rare it really has been. An omen? Hopefully. If we can win 2 this weekend it will be the longest streak since 1985 and that year ended rather well for us.;)

This is also Coach Appert's 7th season. How did Adessa's 7th season go? ;)

We will have to wait for an announce from RPI or any other team involved-I just got off the phone with MSG. They have no clue what is going on past the end of April as to special events. Why am I not surprised? The person I talked to said that the only things scheduled so far are the Hockey and Basketball season games followed by possible playoff games extending into late June. Her list of special events only listed concerts and things like the Ice Show and the Circus. I seemed to have been totally wrong about their schedule being fixed 6 months or more in advance.

Most of us RPI guys are very numerical. We tend to notice these kind of things. Not getting ahead of myself and certainly this indicates nothing-but it is Wednesday and a boring one at that.

I would love to see BC's tentative schedule to find out if they have an opening the following weekend. I certainly think that we would have prefered to go to Boston once.

Amen Aspy. That said, this team seems to have the eye of the tiger and has been rolling four lines that are tough to play against. We need to come out with the same jump and intensity we had over the weekend...and stay out of the GD box...we were fortunate to escape SLU with the W, given the penalties we took. Even strength, there isn't an ECAC team we can't beat.

Wicked-You well know that a lot will depend on who the officials are and what sort of game they call. When the game is allowed to be played without a plethora of whistles and nit picking penalty calls-we do very well. As I mentioned before-hopefully Kotyra is off in Jamaica for vacation for a while.;)

This really is troubling. Tinordi adds a lot of things to this team. All the cliches about everyone else stepping up should be inserted here-but truthfully the kid is a player. His line was just starting to really gel and did so much more than what was on the scoresheet. That line made us a different team and a difficult team to play against. We have at the very least lost a bit of depth-and here's hoping as rapid a recovery for Matt as posible.

It's also an opportunity for Commers to step up. He's played in a few games recently and I've liked how he's played. A lot of energy, pretty good on the forecheck and not afraid to get into the thick of it. A bad situation turns into a chance for him to make something better out of it.
