RPI 2024 Off-Season: Was 2023 – 2024 Just a Bad Dream?

Today is 31 July 2024. There are 66 days until RPI's next game.

This is based upon 5 October 2024 for the start of next season.

Whom did he play for?

Champlain College a post-war land grant school in Plattsburgh, now defunct. They played on an outdoor rink adjacent to the lake....nothing like a little headwind for a home field advantage!...LOL. Oddly enough, my dad went on to become lifelong friends with Ned Harkness (hence my RPI fandom!)

I have an old holiday tourney program that had his HFH saves record noted....it was broken in the 70's I believe ....by some poor SOB. Ha ha

SID gone!!!. There goes another one from Athletic Administration. At least we got around two years out of this guy. Only heaven knows when the next update to the athletic webpage will come.

Add that to the body count which includes but is not limited to Scott, Karen, Norris, Perry and Kevin. In those cases, it's too many quality people fleeing in too short a timeframe. It just don't taste or smell right. Something is wrong!!!

I can't even recall who the SID was. It wasn't a guy named Alzheimer, was it?

I think I remember Al Zheimer from back in the 1965 season. Wasn't he the guy who kept track of the goals against on the abacus we kept on the bench? Sort of a short fellow with glasses (or perhaps he was a tall fellow with contact lenses). Or perhaps i am having one of those episodes.

Yesterday I couldn't have told you the SID's name either. Apparently it was a guy named Donnelly they grabbed from St. Rose when Beattie left after the school year started. Since St. Rose announced its closing a month or so later it was good timing on his part. We could look at this one of two ways: (1) The fact that most of us apparently couldn't have identified him on a bet means its not a big deal; or (2) He did a good job stepping in at the last moment for the transition to be so transparent. I actually think its some of both. To my rapidly declining memory this is the first real change under Bowers (I don't count Beattie since he left immediately afterward and, it's reasonable to infer, it was probably caused by his not getting the AD job) so I wouldn't worry about it if she does a good job of filling the position. She doesn't have much time before the fall season so if this was a voluntary departure (don't know one way or the other) it will be a good test of her connections to get a qualified candidate in here quickly.

You’re correct on a lot of accounts, except his name and the school he came from. Brett Bosley.

Yes, it is Mr. Bosley. Don't know a whole lot about him nor am sure I ever met or even talked to him. So I really don't know if he deserves to go on the list of the previous departees that I was far more familiar with (listed on a previous post). They were all good even on their worst days with some being nothing short of elite.

Needless to say, if I were a recent departee like Mr. Bosley, I would rather make that list than the "other list(s)" of past Athletic Department personnel including those that held "emeritus" positions.

Obviously, those who live locally, attend events in person and come across these people regularly would have a far better perspective as to just who is who and/or which is which.

Donnelly got Beattie's job (or at least his title). So, is Donnelly still with us and it's only Bosley that's gone? Why is that a big deal? Bosley got a promotion from Senior Athletic Communications Specialist to Associate Commissioner in his new job. Why wouldn't he take it and why is this a negative thing for anyone?

I can’t speak to this Donnelly person, I never met him/her. Brett was hired right after Kevin left and I believe was hired before Bowers, I could be wrong on the timing. He was hired in Perry’s position but assumed the SID role for hockey. I’m guessing that the SID is already at the school, we just don’t know if it’s this Donnelly person or someone else.

Bosley was hired in 2022 as a Senior Athletics Communications Specialist and worked for Beattie, who was Associate AD for Communications. I always considered Kevin to be the SID so Bosley was at most comparable to an Assistant SID, but that may be semantics.

Donnelly was hired as Assistant AD for Communications (the same title he had at St. Rose) to replace Beattie so Bosley, however briefly, worked for him. Beattie clearly left after Bowers' appointment because he didn't get the AD job. Similarly, Bosley may have left because he didn't get the promotion. Instead, like Perry, he got his promotion by getting a similar role with a conference, albeit a small D3 conference while Perry joined a D1 hockey league. Good for him.

Edit: Bosley was presumably the guy to keep things running after Beattie left and there was no immediate replacement. So, to the extent the transition went smoothly, he deserves a lot of credit.

Want to post about a few things since I haven't posted in a little while, been a busy summer.

I don't think the turnover in the athletic department is anything to be concerned about. We have a new AD and administration, so I'd just guess it's a combo of them wanting to get their own people in and some wanting to move on. Pretty natural to have some turnover with an entirely new regime.

As for Brett, I have nothing but good things to say about him. He was only at RPI for a year but was always a pleasure to talk to and work with last year. Seems like he got a nice promotion to be the associate director of an entire conference; good for him!

Schedule definitely looks easier than last year (would be hard for it not to be easier though), but I like it because I think it strikes a better balance with schools like Maine and UNH still on the schedule and despite Miami's struggles in recent years, they are still an NCHC school.

Every year I do jersey number predictions because they're fun, and it's cool to see how wrong I always end up :-P

I think Tapper should wear #25 or #52 just for some confusion in the record books later on.
