RPI 2024 Off-Season: Was 2023 – 2024 Just a Bad Dream?

Unrelated, but how about new uniforms for the 200th year. Perhaps throwbacks? Home uniform 1995 ECAC championship throwback uniform, away 1985 throwback championship uniforms.

Wondering what the 1824-25 uniforms looked like... :p

Seriously, I like the idea. I've always been partial to the late 70s Flyers-style jerseys. But since it is the 30th anniversary of the last ECAC title, and 40th of the last NCAA title, it seems appropriate to use the jerseys from those particular seasons. I think this is a good suggestion. Also IIRC they wore special '85 throwbacks for a game or two in 2010 for the 25th anniversary and then raffled them off.

RPI 2024-2025: fire up the popcorn machine we’re headed for 20 losses boys.

Hey Doc, do any of those betting sites you use have an O/U for the season? I'm not a betting guy but if the O/U on losses is 20, given the difference in schedule compared to last year's and who we have coming back, I'd take that bet. We only lost one guy that I really wish had stayed, Heidemann. Sertti was a disappointment compared to the prior year and Regula/Brushett were essentially replacement level veterans. I think the guys we brought in from the portal should be up to that task. I also expect contributions from Caron, Rullers and Tapper. Our transfer goaltender will, hopefully, provide the competition for Watson that was lacking on the bench last year.

The real key will be the play of the returnees. They can't be happy with their play last season but, contrary to what might have been expected, almost all the key players chose to return. Either what we saw last year really is who they are, or they should be very motivated to go out on a dramatically better note. I'm not expecting a miracle, but I do expect better than another 20 loss season.

i haven't seen that type of bet as yet. But i would take it also. last year we had the roughest first 10 game schedule in many years and paid the price for it. i think it actually affected team play for much of the rest of the season. This year, we may or may not be a better squad (I think we are going to show some signs of life). But the schedule should allow for some early victories even if we may some early season errors and adjustments. The keys for me are the same as i mentioned last year before the season. Can this team play a team defensive style so that our goal tender has a chance to actually play as well as he has shown he can. And special teams can be 30% of many games and as we all know, last year was simply an abomination when we were a man short. Playing well on short handed situations starts with winning face offs and control of the puck in your own zone and then managing to get the darn thing out of the zone. Sounds simple - but it proved to be a difficult task and cost us far too often.
Agree totally with your assessment of the fellows coming in. If we can put a team on the ice that is committed to a team defense approach, we may be more competitive and it may not take all that much more scoring than we had last year.

1824 - a highly contested election year. If i recall correctly we wore the RPI motto on the front and a picture of John Quincey Adams on one sleeve and Andrew Jackson on the other. We had a fairly successful season and did not lose the games up in the North Country trip because nobody was home up there.

Are you sure that was Andrew Jackson and not Shirley Ann Jackson? ;)

You do remember correctly. I won one of the jerseys. It’s RED and I wear it each year on Freakout! Night. Nicest thing is the jersey that I won was the player last known for scoring a goal in the NCAA tournament (we all know who that is).

And a brief note to the good doctor: if you make an appearance at HFH again, Section 6 will welcome you back!

We have had a rather long hiatus for many reasons. But this coming year might be different. We are currently trying to set up a few things and keeping fingers crossed. As yet we cannot commit to season tickets as in the past but individual weekends are becoming more likely.

Do we still have Hacker & Murphy?

yes, but I believe E. Stewart was the majority partner in that firm.

what we need is someone named Harding (not Warren) to join Muzzati. The marketing director for that firm is one of my classmates from ‘03 so the NIL writes itself.

I just saw, on eLynah of all places, that E. Stewart Jones was debarred. It happened two week ago. https://www.timesunion.com/news/article/e-stewart-jones-disbarred-appellate-division-19581732.php I recall having read here that he was in trouble.

It was suggested also on eLynah that the penalty box could be named for him. ;)

The ads on the scoreboard and the money that came with them were not exactly going to run into perpetuity anyway. The guy is comfortably past 80!!!

Provided my recall is correct, Mike Adessa retained Mr. Jones (normally a criminal attorney) to represent Mike's interests, negotiate his separation package and the terms under which Mike would agree to "resign".

It would be quite ironic if, indeed, Mr. Jones went from extracting separation money from RPI in the last decade of the previous century to pumping advertising money RPI's way during a portion of this century!!!

I think Stephen Van Rensselaer would also have wanted his picture on there, too

Indeed it would. Given how anemic the power play has been for much of the past several seasons, I'm surprised Jones was willing to have his firm's name associated with it for so long. In any event, sounds like it's time to find a new sponsor. National Grid (the old NiMo)? Green Island Power Authority?
