RPI 2023-24: In Our 200th Year, We're Getting It Right

Last night's game was a total disappointment.
Clarkson came out determined not to get swept, and we just were not ready for that.
I don't know if Clarkson is a better team or just a bad matchup.
Either way, we just couldn't keep up with them last night.

Nice win tonight, the Muzzatti line was great. A win tomorrow would go a long way!! As usual, crickets on here after a win….

Was busy Friday. Gave up 6 goals (not counting empty net). Was told it would be all be better when Watson came back. He is playing well but too many high quality chances, not his fault but the system Dave plays.

The Engineers are 4-2 since Watson returned (4-1 in games he starts). I think that is for sure better. If they keep winning at that rate, they would get 4th or 5th in the league. It won't come easy but hoping they can keep it up

I thought the Clarkson game was a tale of two halves. RPI played well and generated plenty of opportunities. In the 2nd half I thought they wore down and credit to CCT for keeping up the pace. RPI struggled with offensive zone faceoffs ...total for the game was something like 37-25 in favor of the Knights. Watson was quite good, I'm sure he'd like the 3rd goal back, I think it sneaked in under his armpit....but he stopped plenty of Grade A's. Two winnable road games this coming weekend....as others have mentioned the league is a complete toss-up outside of Q.

I was very disappointed in the Clarkson game. Coming off a win at home in a game against a rival that could put the team in the heart of the league race, I thought they simply outplayed us. I was surprised that the shots were only a half dozen or so in Clarkson's favor, because it seemed to be significantly more. Watson kept us in the game. Sure, he probably wants the 3rd goal back, but we let a guy get open just below the top of the circle and it was a well-place shot - some of those will get through. He stopped others that probably should have been goals. I still think if he plays that well all season we'll be competitive, but they let a big opportunity get away and that can't keep happening if we want to have a decent league result.

For those so inclined, just a reminder that Smitty is slated to appear on Wyland's show this morning at 11:15AM.

Does anyone know why Dave and the team is no longer doing pre / post game interviews? No more Talkin-neers podcast. Nothing from RPITV on YouTube.... Not that it would be terribly exciting to listen to this year, but I do kinda miss it. Only the Roger Wyland radio show and that's in the middle of the day not not available to listen to online...

Dartmouth all over RPI. completely unacceptable that rpi is getting outplayed to this degree. This is not a well coached team

Gonna put a hand up here. Been very positive about the team hoping they’d turn it around with the easier 2nd half but this is bad bad play. Will always root hard for the guys but this is really frustrating

Dartmouth with 3 powerplay goals tonight. I don’t even know what you say about this anymore. I really hope Dave does the right thing and resigns at the end of the season. This program needs someone different leading them. This is simply not working. Anyone who says otherwise is full of shit.

Frustrating weekend. Nothing good to say about it. I'm also always taking the optimistic side of things because that's just how I like to live, but man this weekend really beat that out of me. I've had flights booked for next weekend to go to the Mayor's Cup for awhile now. Dreading it a bit, but too late to turn back at this point.

Union with the sweep this weekend. I watched the union game tonight simply because RPI is unwatchable garbage. Union plays hard in all 3 zones. Hauge in a few years has established an identity. RPI has no identity.

So Dave's system gives up a lot of high quality chances and that's rather surprising because I would have thought that he would realize that we don't have the personnel to roll that way. He should have clogged the crap out the neutral zone, left wing lock, whatever to stop the high quality chances. He needs to teach and drill the team to defend the blue paint. Regarding Dave, I warned about this when the extension was signed but took a lot of grief about it on this thread. Apologies to me are probably in order but we're all family, so none needed.

Conversations need to be held that’s all I’m going to say. If they haven’t already

I wouldn't hold your breath. He just got extended last year, and on Rodger Wyland's radio show he said Dr. Bowers was consistently singing his praises. I'd be pretty surprised if they moved on. I think if they make a coaching move, it'll be with the women's program since that almost happened last year

Tough game to watch tonight. You either get players to fit the system you want or get the system to fit the players you have. Not sure from the outside which is the failure but it has been a rough weekend. Still looking forward to seeing the team in person at the Mayor's Cup next weekend (its been forever since I've been to the Knick).
