Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Article about Jacob Laliberte needing to break free of Craig Cowie's shadow http://www.standard-freeholder.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2496343.

Gut check time for JL. His coach summed it up: "...Laliberte has to work smarter... needs to do is go and get pucks, he has to take (Cowie) to the dirty areas of the rink. Jake has to lead the charge and take (Cowie) into the forecheck.''

That said, I don't think its panic time. JL did have the GWG in the last game.

FYP :D

Whig-Standard piece previewing the Kingston - <s>Georgetown</s> Oakville series which begins tonight in Kingston. The <s>Raiders</s> Blades have won 3 of 4 RS matchups. Kingston has home ice. Vees will start their backup keeper again in Game 1 - their starter is day to day nursing the dreaded "lower body injury". :D

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

SF article http://www.standard-freeholder.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2498118
Jacob Laliberte gave the Colts some breathing room with 7:02 remaining, pouncing on a rebound in the mid-slot and wheeling around in front before getting a low shot away through traffic that got past Kowalew.
The Raiders continued with their strategy of having assistant captain Craig Cowie shadowing Laliberte - and don't expect that approach to change. On several occasions Thursday, the Raiders, who didn't have last change on the road, of course, kept a player close to the team bench before faceoffs, then went ahead with the change just after play resumed, putting Cowie on the ice to cover Laliberte.

"Absolutely, it's been a good strategy for us,'' Goulet said. "You've got a guy who had 103 points in the season, and he has three points in the playoffs. It's working.''

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Can you imagine what the other ECAC teams will have to do next year to stop him? They will have to draw up entirely new defenses and line changes. This can only work to the advantage of our already good group of offensive threats. Can anyone say "NCAA Tournament Bid";)

Hope springs eternal.
With the addition of Laliberte, it will be tough for ECAC teams to focus on D'Amigo, Pirri and Polacek. Now, if cullen and Helfrich can only return to form...

This team has the potential to be the best offensive RPI squad since the '85 group.

That's the way that I see it also. However, who knows about Cullen and Helfrich. I still wonder if Helfrich has been suffering with some lingering injury.

I think it was mentioned somewhere that he had an injury. Of course, he wasn't in 100% form last year either, at least from what I could see in his play. I think he also had a bad injury then.

Yes he had an injury. The question is how well has he recovered. IIRC we only found out that Kevin Broad had a serious back injury after he graduated.

Now I am truly getting off topic. :(

Dont forget about Brock Higgs either, he's been putting up pretty good numbers this season. I can easily see him as a permanent addition to the lineup on either the Pirri/O'Grady line or JL's line.

I have the feeling that Higgs will mainly be used in a checking roll like Watts and Malchuk have been used.
