RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Looking through some prep league rosters, I noticed that one of Jim Knowltons sons Mark ('94) is a sophomore at Albany Academy. He's a 5'6" 145lb center, with a line of 17g and 5a for 22pts this season. It will be interesting to see if he comes to RPI or if he might follow his older brothers (Chris) footsteps to Denver.

There aren't many (any?) kids who can go directly from AA's league to top tier D.I. They simply don't play enough games, and they don't play enough quality teams. Even their last sniper - Borisenok - spent a working lifetime (3, 4 years?) in the USHL before heading to UNH.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

I am not sure that we need a talented big man, just someone to protect his linemates.( see McSorley).:p
I think that the real problem in getting that guy, is that he has to be able to keep up with his linemates.
Appert wanted quickness in his game and he has built his team on speed.
Getting a big forward to keep up his hard to find.
As for someone in front of the net, the same thing applies. They have to get there in time to make a difference.
On the PP, we can always use a big defenseman to get in the way.
Hmmm. I wonder who that might be??? Perhaps the BRO?

If memory serves, Luke has on occasion, been used on the PP in Penticton.

Heisenberg has a list http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=rZN-GJH1Q0NQeXIJG47g-ug&gid=1. As to accuracy, it's hard to say. Some of the heights/weights disagree a bit from those on their team/league stat pages. I don't think that there is another list of our recruits on the internet unless Without A Peer has one. I guess that you would remember if there is one on your blog. :p

Agreed. Unless the stats are posted by the NHL CSB or perhaps the World Juniors, I tend to not believe any of them. :D

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Yes, I know. :) The problem is that talented, big forwards are much in demand everywhere, and we have lost out on the better ones whom we have been after (e.g., Derek Grant).

I concur -- exactly the reason we have started to see 15 & 16 year kids at HFH..including the Brunswick Prep kids, and the kid from Hamilton.

I have actually never heard of that penalty before. Is that a tangent on unsportsmanlike conduct, possibly dropping a couple F-bombs on the official? Inadvertently hitting the official in a tussle?
I think its safe to assume the penalty was garnered following a blue-streaked verbal exchange. :D

That does seem most likely the more that I think about it. As has been said, any physical contact with a ref would have resulted in a more severe penalty.

That's a bad loss for the Colts, IMO. Nepean has been playing well -- dropping game 1 will only give them more jump. IMO.

I agree but I expect the Colts to bounce back. They appear to know what they have to do to win.

Did you ever hear of Marc Cavosie? :)

I have indeed, but dare I say it, he was there when ? Ten + years ago? You know better than most that prep hockey has been surpassed in terms of the quality of play and players. Borisennok was skating circles around kids in AA's league and it still took him 4 years to get to UNH. Granted he was a small kid and needed time to fill out a bit.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Now that body in front of the net will cause all kinds of problems for an entire defense. :D

Having the BRO in front of the opposing net gives new meaning to the word screen. :D :D :D

Just the fact that Luke is getting consistent ice time in the 2nd round is very encouraging to me. The fact that he was at forward is a hoot ! The coach is juggling numbers on the blue line with several kids playing well. It smells to me like he didn't want to take Luke at of the lineup...as he alluded to BROs "physical presence". Sexton went down so he put Luke at forward.

Harbison came out of D1 and he knows kids and their abilities at this age...this is great indicator of his development.
