Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

What you hear is correct JL is 5'8"-5'9" on his best day.I'm 6'0" and even with his skates on I'm still taller. I wouldn't be too concerned though about his size because very little of his game depends on it. Granted the college game will require him to battle with bigger stronger guys but he will out think most guys b4 a battle even happens. If JL was 6'-6'1" we wouldn't be discussing him on a college forum.
As for last nights game vs Nepean, it was an off night for JL. He assisted on the first goal a little over 2 mins into the game when he hit Perry coming out of the box for a breakaway. After that he didn't figure much in what happened until he got the puck with some room late in the third peroid and hit the crossbar.
GL played solid in both ends of the rink. He has picked up his physical play noticably since I last saw him play. He unloaded a handful of "rockets" from the point on the PP which created rebounds and secondary chances for the forwards.
Ming is an interesting prospect. You won't notice him for much of the game and then he will do things that a 93 shouldn't be able to do against 19-20 year olds. He will win a puck battle down low or come out a cycle take the puck into the hard areas and score a goal with a pro style release.
Cornwalls best forward last night was Ouellette. He didn't get on the score sheet but he created a ton of chances for his linemates and himself. He seemed to have the puck on his stick all the time, was robbed late in the game by Nepean's tender and also was hauled down in the 2nd peroid on a partial breakaway with no call. He is very creative with the puck, has deceptive speed and quickness and sees the game almost as well as JL.
Cornwall also has its share of role players. One D pairing in particular made life for Harvard/Princeton recruit Calof miserable and had him off his game. The 3rd and 4th lines brought a ton of energy and had as many scoring chances as the top two lines.

Cornwall is a very solid team. If they and Pembroke advance, should be a great semi-final series. Ouellette has lots of skill - hope a D-1 team gives him an opportunity.

How do you think he fits in your favorite league? Like say just across the boarder.

He certainly has the skill to play there imo. Carries the puck well in open ice with pretty good speed and agility. As you say though, NCAA D-1 may not be somewhere he wants to be.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Its really not very clear what his future intentions are. Not all Canadian boys dream of ncaa hockey. Many look more toward major junior/pro route. I know he has also expressed an interest in playing in Europe next season. I also have no idea what kind of student he was, remember he's 20 and has been out of the school scene for awhile.
Some other schools that have shown interest; Oswego,Potsdam. For these schools he would be a top player for sure!

Excellent. :D

I especially appreciated the scouting report on Leboeuf. With his size and a rocket of a shot he should be a very useful player next season.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Just throwing this out there for thought since its the off-season and im bored. :D The roster for the NTDP camp for next years U-17 team is out and theres four players to possibly keep an eye on from the Colorado Thunderbirds organization where Shawn Kurulak is head coach of the midget major team. D-Matias Cleland, F- Brad Hawkinson, F- Quentin Shore and F- Gavin Stoik who all play on the midget minor U-16 team. Maybe Shawn can throw a good word out to them about RPI.

"Boo" Nieves is also on the list. We lost out on him to Michigan. So im sure SA has his sights set on a few more players on the list.

On Friday, the Cornwall Colts lost to the Nepean Raiders 6-5. Jacob Laliberté had a slashing penalty. Guy Leboeuf had an assist. The best-of-seven playoff series is tied 1-1. http://cjhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1240206

Laliberté's line is now 2-0-1-1-2.
His total is 52-62-50-111-36.
Leboeuf's line is now 2-0-2-2-0.
His total is 64-10-21-31-66.

Who would have expected Leboeuf to be leading Laliberté in scoring?

Who knows, the ECAC may not be somwhere he is able to be -- academically speaking...Clarkson & Quinnipiac being the notable exceptions. :D

That's a bad loss for the Colts, IMO. Nepean has been playing well -- dropping game 1 will only give them more jump. IMO.

That'd be nice indeed, and would please a certain bear we all know. I'm assuming Quentin is the younger brother of Drew? It might be tough keeping him away from DU...

Sounds exactly like Monty's kind of forward...
