Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

On Saturday, the Penticton Vees lost to the Westside Warriors 4-3 in overtime. Luke Curadi had no points or penalties. The best-of-seven playoff series is tied 2-2. http://www.bchl.ca/leagues/hockey_boxScores.cfm?clientID=1413&leagueID=2393&gameID=806877

Curadi's line is now 8-0-1-1-13.
His total is 66-7-11-18-111.
Count me among those who are surprised this is tied at two...

Vees hit at least two pipes in the third - including one off the crossbar on the PP with under two to play..leading to OT. Vees forward Luke Johnson was injured in the 1st and did not return ..leaving 10 forwards and 7 D. If either he or Beth Sexton (or both) is out for any period, the Vees may have to call in reinforcements at forward.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Standard Freeholder article about yesterday's Cornwall game, in large part about JL finally getting a goal and why he hasn't been scoring in the playoffs http://www.standard-freeholder.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2491166.
Cornwall - Before Game 3 on Sunday night at the civic complex, Jr. A Colts player Mathieu Ouellette was talking about a potential problem in his team's playoff series with Nepean.

How to get captain and sniper Jacob Laliberte some space, away from Craig Cowie's checking?

"Like white on rice,'' Ouellette said of the shadowing. "We have to find a way to get (Cowie) away from (Laliberte).''

Problem solved, at a most critical time. The Colts were wobbly in a 4-4 third period, but Laliberte came through with a goal with 5:26 left in regulation time, and the Colts went on to beat the Raiders 5-4 in front of 958 at the civic complex and take back the series lead, two games to one.

Laliberte broke away on a two-on-one opportunity, and he fired a bullet snapshot from just below the top of the circle that handcuffed Nepean goalie Michel Kowalew.

It was Laliberte's first goal of the series, and his first point since a Game l assist.

Craig Cowie is not on Heisenberg's list. RPI will have enough fire power next season that the opponents will not be able to concentrate on JL, or Polacek, or Pirri, or D'Amigo, or Helfrich, or Cullen, or O'Grady, or Higgs, or ... :)

JL faces this kind of shadowing almost every game. It will hapen a little less in home games since his team can have the last line change. I am sure he is used to it by now. At RPI he will eventually get the same kind of attention because I am sure he will be one of the top offensive threats. But as you mention-if teams focus on him (as they most surely will) then we will have a lot more room for all the rest of our scoring threats. This is one of the reasons it is so important that he come to Troy-he will make everyone else that much better. Gosh-can you imagine how many point Polacek or Pirri or D'Amigo could score if other teams had to put their best defensive forward on LaLiberte? At least the offense for next year shold be formidible.:D

I would think that next year, Polacek and D'Amigo will get most of the attention as happened this year.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

You must have read today's article Line change advantage plays big role . :D

I have always felt that having the last line change is one of the biggest advantages you can have in most sports. Sure a home crowd helps, but the main advantage of being at home in hockey is being able to match up the lines you want and the defensemen you want. Next year should be very interesting-I wonder how teams will try to match up against Polacek, Pirri, D'Amigo, O'Grady, and Laliberte. They will need a lot of depth at defensive forward to handle all of that.

JL has not often been shut down so effectively by any team. They must be doing quite a job on him.

Penticton takes on the Vernon Vipers for the BCHL Interior Div. crown...this one has the makings of a huge series. Game 1 and 2 will be Friday/Saturday in Vernon. Teams then get a two day breather before gamea 3 & 4 Tuesday and Wednesday in Penticton. Winner of this one takes on the winner of Alberni vs. Powell River for the BCHL cup.
