Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Some interesting stats for JL against Pembroke and Brockville.
Vs Pembroke 4 gp 1-1-2
Vs Brockville 6 gp 5-3-8 (3 ppg-1 ppa)

I bring this up because these teams play a much more defensively responsible system with quality players at every position. Much more like what he will face in Troy. Can't explain the big difference in production against Brockville maybe just the extra PP time allowing JL some more time and space.
If you take out the games played vs these two teams his ppg = 2.5 and against Pembroke & Brockville its 1.0 .
I was able to catch several of the games vs Nepean and the Cowie kid stuck to JL like glue. IMO dont think JL worked as hard as he could have to fight thru this. JL never got physical with him just seemed to go with the flow and seemed to except that he wasn't going to get scoring chances. On the Nepean side Calof was being hounded by a Cornwall defender most of the series and he fought back. Pushing, shoving and finishing checks on his mark.
Nepean also went after the Cornwall defender that was hounding Calof, hitting him and trying to rough him up every chance they got. IMO Colts should have done the same thing to Cowie but didn't.
Will anyone else be catching any of the games in this series?

Interesting take on this-but in Troy how many ECAC teams will be able to devote a decent defensive forward to shadowing JL when they have Pirri, D'Amigo, and Polacek to worry about? Most nights I suspect JL will have plenty of room to maneuver and a plethora of chances. :)

That's my opinion too. Hopefully he will be in Troy so we will find out.

I hope your right. I know when teams give him time and space he is deadly. Just thinking that even an average forward playing in the ECAC who works his tail off will take away alot of time and space from anyone not just JL. But his vision and skill level will probably be realized through nifty passes for easy goals and getting the puck back off of give and goes and such.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Somehow, the teams managed a way to defeat two lines (Polacek/D'Amigo, then Kerins/Pirri/O'Grady). It always seemed that when we had that productive third line (whether it was Angiers-Goulet or Malchuk or even Kerins on a lower line), we would win the game. I don't want to speculate on lines because they aren't at RPI yet and who knows what kind of chemistry the players will have when they get to Troy. If we can have three solid lines and a rotating terrific fourth line, we'll be deadly.

Depth is a very good thing, as players that specialize in certain types of play got their playing time against the right opponents. Halpern with Yale, Rabbani with Clarkson, etc. I can't wait to see the depth next year.

This past year's freshman recruit class was fantastic. No question about it. Next year's class on paper looks to be just about as exciting. That is if everyone listed ends up in Troy. Laliberte is the key to the class. With him, next year's class appears to be another fantastic group. I can only imagine how much offense we will be putting on the ice every night adding this incoming group to what we have already.

Flagdude, With respect to lines. IMO if you have two outstanding (scoring)lines that are a constant scoring threat against anyteam, anywhere vs any goalie you will win a ton of games. I feel that a big part of the late seson stumble and ultimately sudden stop was that many of our top scoring threats were our top pk guys and were often over used game after game.

I would love to se SA look at the 85 championship team and see how addessa did it. Two scoring lines, a top pk line and a hustle type line backed of course by solid D and goaltending.

I do agree that certain types of players do FIT in the lineup better vs one opponent compared to another.

Nice. Thanks for posting it. I love hearing her say "Jacob Laliberté". :D

Im going to start working on getting that correct now and maybe I will have it by the start of next season...:D

Absolutely spot on-especially the part about solid defense. That was the perfect combination.

Great insights and we appreciate your reports from having watched JL. I'm eagerly awaiting your report on how he made out on his SAT's ...   :D

You're not kidding! The only problem would have been Prof. Baer would have been so worked up, the kid never would have made it to practice ! :D :D
