Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Got some recently updated scouting reports about D-Evan McEneny and F-John Hayden. Nothing really differnet then was reported previously.

McEneny- big, great puck movement and great shot for the powerplay.
Hayden- big, strong power forward, hard shot.

Also we should hear a decision from F-Eric Ming in the next month and a half about what college he'll be going to. If I remember right he wanted to have a decision finalized by May.

WS- did you ever find out who that other kid was with Higgs the other night?

Do we know who else Ming is considering?

I know he visited Harvard previously and I believe theres interest from Kitchener in the OHL. There are more schools interested, I cant remember who they were however. Maybe RB can help.

Now we need to find out how JL did on his SATs.... :D
I'm still looking for the other kid, but it literally could be anyone, as he wasn't wearing any team garb. I did see a kid Saturday night wearing a Kent School Hockey hoodie with the #15 embroidered on it. He was there with his parents...I don't think he was a recruit, as he sat on the townie side and left the building right after the game.

I believe the red head with the mohawk was steven Byers of orangeville. Based on the number on the back of his sweatshirt and the orangeville logo.

lets just hope these freshman can rush up ice on d and not turn the puck over contstantly

Great pickup Jstadt...as I said, I only got a fleeting glimpse of the two... Beyers is a '92 5'11 185. Ranked #182 in the CSS mid-term. www.cbssports.com/nhl/draft/prospectrankings

Went 6-5-6-11 for the Crushers in the playoffs

Also, he played on team Black with Quinn for the OJHL eval camp last August..Higgs was on Red team

I don't recall who else is interested in him, and I am too lazy to earch through the threads at the moment.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Sudbury again. :D http://www.localsportsreport.com/Bl...ed-Rookies-Who-Could-Make-an-Impact-in-200910
Steven Beyers - Sudbury Wolves
Beyers, the first pick of the third round in 2008, is an undersized center who played with Orangeville of the OPJHL. Beyers was also an OPJHL junior all star, after posting 31 points in 34 games in 2008-09. Although slightly undersized at 5'10, Beyers could make an impact in Sudbury by giving them more scoring depth and rounding out their top 3 forward lines.

Edit: I should add that the same link contains the following which probably was posted here earlier:
Two Honorable Mentions Worth Noting:

Nick Quinn - Sudbury Wolves
The first pick of the 2nd round in 2008, Quinn has thus far rejected Sudbury's wishes for him to play for them. Quinn, a 6'0 defenceman, is apparently looking for an NCAA scholarship, with Boston College being the most talked about destination. So while his OHL prospects are looking suspect at best (since he has yet to show for a Sudbury camp), I think he's still worth noting because of the impact he could have. As an OPJHL junior all star for Dixie, Quinn put up 25 points in 45 games. He is an excellent two way blueliner who could immediately make Sudbury's defence better should he change his mind.

Brock Higgs - Kingston Frontenacs
Higgs could possibly make the biggest impact of any player on this list. The 5'11 forward, and Kingston native, was a 5th round pick of the Frontenacs in 2008. A dynamic offensive player, Higgs finished second in scoring for OPJHL Champions Kingston, with 28 goals and 58 points in 49 games. Higgs was especially incredible for Kingston on their quest for the RBC Cup, where he had 22 goals in 25 playoff games. This led all OPJHL players in playoff scoring. Higgs would be an immediate impact player in the OHL and would be a big boost to an improving Kingston team. However, for whatever reason, the Kingston native does not appear to want to play for his hometown OHL team. He's verbally committed to Canisius for 2010, which could obviously change the same way Ethan Werek's commitment to Boston University did.

You only watched Freakout and Game 3 of the Playoff series, eh?

I forgot, the players have to be instant hits once they get here, and Coach Appert has to achieve 7NT with deuces, threes, and fives in his hand.

The new freshmen will be absolutely fabulous when they put on the cherry and white, but they still have four years to completely develop. Give them time, and they won't disappoint.

What's dummy's hand? ;)

Let's hope that they stay for four years.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Curious... Ive been wondering if all the talk that happens on the RPI Sports List or on these boards on has any effect on current players or recruits. What are the chances recruits, current players or family members of both read what goes on here or on the RPI Sports List and to what effect does this have on them staying at RPI or potentially coming to RPI?

Maybe 1timer can help give us some updates on this and the Ming situation. :D

Were you planning on getting up to Cornwall again this year for a playoff game? Im gonna be upstate a couple weekends from now, so im hoping the Cornwall/Nepean series goes at least 6 games.

For years I have assumed that what is written here is seen by current players and recruits and their families. It is possible, however, that the coaching staff forbids current players from reading USCHO.

As to RPI Sports, there have been so many messages from parents of recruits, mainly of the unsubscribe variety after their son graduates, that I assume they read that also, although probably not until their son is at RPI.

I have also wonder how much JL has been laughing at what we write about him.

Edit: One more thing, a lot of players over the years have taken a course that requires them to design a website. Almost always there is a link to USCHO.
