Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Gonna say something here that might not endear me to proponents of the prep school route...even if the 2 young squires at the BRF last night are the real deal, they will probably still need to go to Junior...and that's after having to spend a PG year at the prep school. Reason: prep schools play approximately 25 games in a season and all students MUST play a sport every season (which means they must forego hockey for the rest of the school year). There are plenty of players who can do it, but the lack of development & experinece poses unique challenges. I live in an area with a huge concentration of prep schools and can tell you the 'bubble skin culture' applies; i.e., everyone who is in the culture swears by it but it doesn't really pass the smell test for development...

I agree with you about Prep players. Very few go directly to college these days.

Agree completely. The prep schools have seen the development of the Jr . leagues and have not responded with more aggressive game scheduling and recruiting. Its too bad because many of these schools have rich hockey histories.

Hello all. First time poster, been following these threads since the start of the season. As any good student I am connected on Facebook and I did notice that Nick Bailen joined the Bowling Green school network about 2 weeks back. Just my 2 cents on things for now.

Welcome aboard.

I really doubt that means that he is going back to BG. It probably means that he has friends there. Then again, it's something else to worrry about. :D

Agreed he is staying connected with friends there but how could it be that he could go BACK there? Isn't there a matriculation rule?

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Ralph really needed something else to worry about. :D

It never ceases to amaze me how people can use social media to find information. Please continue to feed whatever you come across...learning about the current and soon to be RPI team members is my primary goal...for personal reasons, yes, but also for chat reasons. :)

Nick Bailen will be an Engineer next year. There's no fire here because there's no smoke.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

There was one guy at the BRF who I snapped a couple of shots of; wasn't sure if he was family of one of the players or a visiting recruit. He was in that area of the Field House for the whole game, and seemed to be talking to a number of different parents and players after the game. He was wearing a "Sauce Hockey" hat. I'm pretty sure that's Greg Burgdoerfer he's with. I overheard that his name is "Joey".

I didn't see anyone else to point my lens at; I'll keep looking in the future though.

Thanks. I know that Eric and Greg have a younger brother who is a goalie. He doesn't look like them however.

Brunswick #18: (F) Kevin Duane '95
TSN lists this kid as a '94, needs to fill into his frame and work on his skating a bit. Has the ability to excel at the next level.

Brunswick kid #15: (F) John Hayden '95 (freshman)
They list this kid as one of the top 1995 prospects in all USA hockey. Boat load of potential, speed, quick hands, great shot and a physical edge to his game. A top ranked national five star player.

USHR lists both kids as freshman. Hayden (2/14/95) is listed at 6' 177lbs and has a line of 14-14-28 so far this year. Duane(1/16/94) is listed at 6'4" 208lbs with a line of 8-9-17.
