Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

I wanna say there might have been two recruits at the game tonight...sitting in the usual spot right behind the RPI bench...I was entertaining guests so I could peel off to check them out. One kid had light brown hair with a blue grey jacket, the other kid had dark hair, black jacket. I'm hoping RHam or GLM got a look and/or a pic or two...

This was the wrong night for me to be spotting folks. With my birthday and all tonight, I was too much under the influence to be spotting anyone aside from the folks I was at the game with.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

On Friday, the Cornwall Colts lost to the Carleton Place Canadians 6-3. Jacob Laliberté had two goals, an assist, and two high sticking penalties. He was named #3 star. http://cjhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1048277

Laliberté's line is now 46-56-44-100-32.

Congrats on 100 points.

Consistently on the scoresheet-this time involved on all 3 goals. He is going to just look great in Cherry and White next year;)

100 Pt. season....pretty much says it all. I wonder if he'd have gotten to 50 in the USHL...which IMO, is where he should have played, or the BCHL.

I just have the feeling that this kid can score wherever he is. Some players just have that knack or the vision or whatever it is that allows them to see the ice, anticipate where the puck will be and position themselves accordingly. There aren't a lot like that, but when you see one come along they stand out and you remember them.

I don't disagree, but JL didn't face much of any challenge against his opponents this season. I'd have much rather seen him jump up a level to the the US or BCHL and work on his game away from the puck and in the D zone. Being challenged nightly by kids who are far closer to him in talent (not to mention superior in strength) would have made his transition to D1 that much smoother. (Yes, I am remaining ever-hopeful that he will indeed make it to Troy.)

I know every kid has to take his own path, I'm just sayin' sometimes kids who aren't challenged might lose focus (...go to Florida) or not prepare quite as hard day in and day out. :p

I agree with both you and DrD. He hasn't been challenged in the CJHL, but he would have been a scorer wherever he played.

Pirri was not in all that different of a situation and he seems to have adapted quite smoothly. I do agree that he might not have improved as much as possible this year, but I think the end result will be just fine so long as he makes he way to Troy.

Agree to a point - Pirri was in the OJHL -- a bit better hockey --but the point is essentially the same. If JL's number translate as well as Pirri's have, we'll be dancing in the aisles !

I am not convinced that the competion level is much different between the OJHL and the CJHL. There are some poor teams in the OJHL also.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Just a reminder.... could be lots of potential recruits in the house tonight, especially with an extremely light schedule in Ontario Jr. A hockey, no games in the CJHL, one game in the CCHL and two in the OJHL.

It almost seems like that was on purpose. :)

Just a reminder.... could be lots of potential recruits in the house tonight...

Apologies if this was covered on the game thread, but I was in no mood to type last night.

From what Babo and I learned, there were two kids - youngsters - in town on unofficial visits. They were from the Brunswick School... The N.H. Junior Falcons were also in attendance..it is certainly possible that one of their kids made a visit while in town. I did not see anyone resembling a CJHL or OJHL kid. Also, FWIW --there were a couple of NHL scouts in attendance last night. One guy attended both games and told us he was scouting Foss for Nashville.

Brunswick #18: (F) Kevin Duane '95
pic: http://www.greenwichcitizen.com/def...n-Duane-right-collides-with-Wyoming-52594.php
"...Bruins got their fifth, the eventual game-winner, courtesy of freshman Kevin Duane, who has impressed the Brunswick coaching staff with his raw skill and maturity. "...He plays older than he is," VanBelle said. "He's always putting himself into good spots and scoring important, quality goals."

Brunswick kid #15: (F) John Hayden '95 (freshman)
pic http://www.greenwichtime.com/default/photo/Brunswick-s-John-Hayden-cuts-through-the-105844.php
Also making key contributions is freshman John Hayden who centers a line and gets time on the No. 2 powerplay unit."...And John Hayden is just going to get better and better and is really holding his own as a 14-year-old going up against 18- and 19-year-old men."

One of the kids - (#15 I think) was pretty big for his age..I'd say 6'0+ and probably 185+

Good work, WS. I was too mired in misery to notice anyone out of the ordinary.

I'll file that away. :)

Let's see, a HS Freshman would show up in 2013 at the earliest which would make him RPI '17. He'll be a junior in 2015-16 when we are due for an NCAA championship (1954, 1985, 2016), just like Frank Chiarelli and Adam Oates. :D
