Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

Back to involvement in 50% of the scoring for his team. That seems to be his norm. I guess he is stuck in a rut?

Cornwall has 218 goals, and he has partcipated in 97 of them. I suspect that if the 12 games that JL missed are removed, he actually is above 50%. (I will leave that exercise for someone else. :D )

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

On Thursday, the Cornwall Colts defeated the Carleton Place Canadians 6-1. Jacob Laliberté had a hat trick including a PPG. He was named #1 star. http://cjhlsite.stats.pointstreak.com/boxscore.html?gameid=1048275

Laliberté's line is now 45-54-43-97-28.

By the way, I should have noted that melee broke out when JL scored his third goal at 0:16 of the third period. JL appears to have basically watched. (IMHO a smart move.)

Was at the game last night in Cornwall. JL took a bad hit from behind after scoring his third goal at the beginning of the third peroid. A Dman from Carlton Place just smoked him from behind at about the goal line with JL going head first into the end boards. The type of hit where it could have left JL disabled for life but the hockey gods were with him tonight as he did come back to play later in the peroid. Needless to say some of his Cornwall teammates came to his defense and several old time hockey fights broke out.

Eric Ming scored a nice goal from the slot but really looked slow most of the game. His potential is obvious, especially when he comes out of the corner with the puck taking it to the net for a shot or pass. He gets himself in those dirty areas where goals come from. I know hes talked with Clarkson and Ohio State. He also has made a trip to Kitchner who have been seen at some Colts games.

As for LeBoeuf, he didn't impress tonight. Not physical at all for his size. Has some nice skills but is on the wrong side of the puck quite often in the D zone. Tries to do too much on the rush, when a pass or chip would serve the situation better. But at about 6'4" cannon for a shot and a smooth skater I can see why SA and Monty like him. Has to cleanup his game to play D1.

The Spink twins seem to always have the puck on their sticks. They move the puck well and create alot of offense off the cycle and rush. For small kids they play hard and are usually back on D when the puck goes the other way. If they grow, they will be good D1 players. They play on a line with Ming so alot of their points don't involve JL.

Goalie situation is this; Carr took warmups didn't move well and didn't play last night. Landa, the backup, played well but can't be expected to carry the load come playoff time. Chretien's 1st obligation is with his Jr B team who are now in playoffs and can only play for Colts if Jr B team is not playing, something about the card he is signed to. The Colts playoff success rests on Carr's tender groin.

1timer,
Thanks for the review. Good to hear that JL is apparently OK.

Well if the HFB he took was anything close to what 1timer described, it was time for his team mates to step in and settle things.

Always appreciate reports from the field 1timer...gracias. I'm still hoping to get up to see JL next Thurs. vs. Smith Falls.

If I had my choice it would be the Friday(2/26) game @ Brockville. Smiths Falls is a very poor team that goons it up pretty well and destroys any flow a game might have, you won't see JL at his best.
The last two games that featured Cornwall vs Brockville were probably the best cjhl games I've witnessed over my 10 or so years of a few games a year in this league. Both finished 4-3 Brockville in shootouts. Very physical, fast games played in front big crowds.
If you go you'll notice that each team displays a real dislike for one another. Each team has players who get under each others skin so its kind of a game within the game so to speak.

If you can't make the Friday game in Brockville and thursday is the only good day for you to come up north then I'd suggest the game on 3/4 vs Gloucester. The play will be back and forth as both teams have ample offense. This will be the type of game where JL can really show his stuff. The last game between these two was a very poor effort on Cornwalls part so I'm guessing the rematch will be much better.

Re: RPI 2010 Recruiting III: Monty's Quest for the Holy Grail

I wanna say there might have been two recruits at the game tonight...sitting in the usual spot right behind the RPI bench...I was entertaining guests so I could peel off to check them out. One kid had light brown hair with a blue grey jacket, the other kid had dark hair, black jacket. I'm hoping RHam or GLM got a look and/or a pic or two...
