RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

The team made it to Green Bay and got a tour of Lambeau Field today:

http://blog.timesunion.com/hockey/rpi-arrives-in-green-bay-and-tours-lambeau-field/8399/
I liked the ending to this:
“With two games left in the NFL regular season, we weren’t in the playoffs,” he told RPI players and coaches. “Nobody was talking about us. But all the stars aligned.

“You guys can pull it off. You guys can walk out of here champions.

“Don’t be happy to be here, boys.

“Go and get it — on behalf of the Green Bay Packers.”
Getting Excited , no school for me tomorrow, more time to anticipate :)

The Packers had to win four playoff games for a national championship; we have to win four playoff games for a national championship.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

I always got a kick out of budgeting for the band because we would include line items for trips to the regionals and the Frozen Four that the e-board would rubber stamp figuring we'd never need the money. Turns out they need at least some of it this year. :) Although the word I've heard is if RPI manages to advance to the Frozen Four the band will be responsible for raising at least part of the cost of the trip to Minneapolis.

In the past the Alumni Association has helped on that front but I'm sure if the band were in that position a few days from now there would be plenty of people willing to pitch in and help. It adds a lot to the atmosphere (although last year's Frozen Four was tough as they dumped the bands at ice level behind the end boards due to the wierd configuration at Ford Field).

Perhaps for the Frozen Four, the band could partner with the team and take the same chartered flight out. I'm sure there'd be more than enough room for the team, pep band, and their respective equipment on a 737 (such as the flight the team took out to Green Bay).

To the best of my knowledge, the NCAA pays for the team's flight and a certain number of other people. This probably wouldn't allow for the band.

There was an article posted in the Denver Post towards the beginning of the season that stated that Denver's flight to Albany last March was a charter plane (as opposed to commercial) and was therefore not covered by the NCAA. I'm going to post this and then hunt around for a link to the article. Edit to come later.

Edit: Finally found it!

If true, that is really dopey. You'd think that the NCAA would give them what a commercial flight would have cost and let them pick up the overage, rather than not pay for anything at all!

Also, I thought that the Times Union story said that RPI took a charter flight this year?

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

I have a nice picture of the Pep Band in action at Hamden that I had hoped to post; except in my technological naivete I don't know how to do it [aside:how do I change the ribbon on this keyboard thingee again?....oh, wait, never mind....]. When I click on the 'insert image' icon, it asks me to insert a link. Is there some website to which I can upload the picture so that I can then post the link once it is there? [PS: a monosyllabic 'yes' answer would not be construed as helpful]

Unlike most men, I have been known actually to look at the instructions from time to time....and stop to ask directions.....practicality does have its virtues.....so a simple step-by-step giude would be appreciated by this neophyte [yes, I am still the proud owner of a multi-function bamboo slide rule, though I no longer use it....I have figured out spreadsheet programs for the most part.....

Why did Microsoft invent Access? to make Excel look good.]

Even so, having the band pay the incremental extra might not cost that much more than paying for a charter bus. Green Bay is at least 16 hours each way and Minneapolis would be several hours further.

FF you are not alone. I still have my VCR and a regular telephone answering machine and a couple of Audi automobiles without any GPS or Satellite radio. Some older things just work well and do not need to be improved upon. BTW the Audis both have radios in them that have cassette players along with their CD players.:)

Our 1994 Toyota Camry still runs great, and its tape player still works fine, though the AM radio is shot (weird that FM works but AM doesn't...the antenna broke off years ago, it was one of those that slid in a channel inside the left front windshield frame). We have an awesome mechanic. It's interesting that you can buy a 'tape' that plugs into an iPod so that you can play the iPod through the tape player (CD? what's the interest rate on that? oh, never mind.)

I find it interesting that vinyl is making a comeback and a new generation of turntables has been developed. There are things that you can do in analog that you cannot do in digital. I once had an analog computer that could do integration, though I forget the details of how it worked.

Thanks! I'll have my son help me with that this morning, when he wakes up (he's home on spring break so that I never expect to see him before noon). We can use his Yahoo ID (naturally I have had the same AOL account for fifteen years or so, I still remember upgrading to 1.07 and we are now at what, 25.2 or something?) With luck we can see a shot of the Pep Band before the end of the day. I've cropped out all the Quinnipiac logos from the background....

Yes, they did take a charter. One would think that the NCAA would pay the commercial fare, but the NCAA has never been known to do things logically.

I've driven From Troy to Detroit a few times and that took me 14 hours. I can't imagine an extra 6 to Green Bay.
