RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

FF you are not alone. I still have my VCR and a regular telephone answering machine and a couple of Audi automobiles without any GPS or Satellite radio. Some older things just work well and do not need to be improved upon. BTW the Audis both have radios in them that have cassette players along with their CD players.:)

Do they play 8-tracks? :D

I fully agree with you when it comes to older technology. Sometimes old and busted is just reliable.

I've driven From Troy to Detroit a few times and that took me 14 hours. I can't imagine an extra 6 to Green Bay.

how many passengers did you have on that bus with you? did they eat any meals? were you able to call in advance so that 20 or so meals were already prepared ahead of time, just sitting there waiting for you, when you stopped to pick them up?

And what arithmetic are you using so that 16 minus 14 = 6?

UPDATE: just heard from the Pep Band, at 9:30 EDST, they are reportedly one hour from Green Bay. That would translate to an 18 hour trip since they left at 4:30 (12:30 minus 4:30 = 8 hours plus 10 hours (from 12:30 to 10:30) = 18 if you want to double-check MY arithmetic).

He's probably adding some time in there for crummy weather, maybe some problems at the border, maybe they went through Ohio and the right turn is a bit later, you name it.

Here's to some ECAC success this weekend...good luck against North Dakota tomorrow!

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

To the best of my knowledge, the NCAA pays for the team's flight and a certain number of other people. This probably wouldn't allow for the band.

Here's the word on charter flights from the NCAA Division 1 Travel Policies:

Charter options will be pursued by Short’s only if reasonable commercial options are not available. All charter flights for a team’s participation in an NCAA championship must be arranged through Short’s. If an institution desires an unusually high seating capacity or it appears that a charter will not be economical, Short’s will advise the institution of the options available within the required guidelines. For all championships, the NCAA will pay the prorated cost for the official traveling party based on the charter’s total cost and the number of seats available on the aircraft, but not to exceed the regular coach fare. The institution must pay for additional passengers above the official traveling party size. The NCAA has final approval of any charter that is part of the NCAA travel guarantee. Please note charter service to championships is limited. Institutions should be prepared to adjust departure and return time, to book commercial reservations, or to split the traveling party.

In short, if a charter flight is necessary, the NCAA reimburses for the official travel party (for men's hockey, it's 37 people - 27 players and 10 others). Beyond that, it's up to the institution to pay for anyone else (i.e. it would come from the band's travel budget and/or fundraising). For all I know, the idea of including the band on the charter flight to Green Bay was looked into, but it was decided that it would be less expensive to charter a bus for the band than the per-person charge to get the band on the plane.

Pep Band's now in Green Bay, and they just ran into Seth Appert and the team. They stopped for dinner and breakfast along the way, and ran into some nasty traffic in Chicago...

hmm...are you speculating or speaking from inside knowledge? maybe they didn't want any of the players hurt by the various items that the band members might be throwing at eachother if they missed....

Speculating, but I do know that the Student Union was offering 20 bus seats at $115 each to anyone wanting to go. It's tough (impossible?) to find commercial round-trip airfare to anywhere from Albany for less than that, let alone on a private charter.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

I received an e-mail on Wednesday inviting me, as an alumnus, to accompany the team on the charter flight from Albany to Green Bay, departing at 9 AM on Thursday. It would have cost $658 for the round-trip airfare and I would have had to pay for my own hotel room in addition. Not sure whether the $658 included a game ticket.

I thought it was a little odd that they sent the offer to me, living six hours from Albany as I do. I didn't accept the offer. Still, if they had enough takers, maybe that was how they could have offset the cost of the charter flight for the team.

The RPI Pep Band in Hamden on Feb 4, 2011.

Okay, the image is now showing up on my browser, thanks very much JH_Gophers for the help !

It was somewhat funny, I thought I was taking a 'candid' picture except someone in the band saw me and yelled out "someone's taking our picture." of course only half the band was even paying attention, and of those that were, most had no idea where the camera was. Undeterred, they smiled and made thumbs' up gestures anyway....

Was that before they left Troy?

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

So that means it isn't the same crew that is in Green Bay.

Are we talking past each other? Yes it IS the same crew that is in Green Bay....the RPI Pep Band traveled with the team to Quinnipiac and Princeton this year on Feb 4 and 5.

That picture is the RPI Pep Band in Hamden. It is the same RPI Pep Band that also traveled to Green Bay.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Watching the UC-UMD game right now on ESPN3. They splashed up a graphic with tomorrow's games and it stated that the RPI-UND game would be on ESPNU.

Looking at zap2it, it looks like that's just the replay, though. Still scheduled to be a lacrosse game during game-time.

I figured that the group of band members that went to Connecticut is not identical to that now in GB. I apologize if I am wrong.
