RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Watching the UC-UMD game right now on ESPN3. They splashed up a graphic with tomorrow's games and it stated that the RPI-UND game would be on ESPNU.

Looking at zap2it, it looks like that's just the replay, though. Still scheduled to be a lacrosse game during game-time.

Everything that I have seen shows our game only on MASN and locally on Time Warner besides for ESPN3.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

I figured that the group of band members that went to Connecticut is not identical to that now in GB. I apologize if I am wrong.

There are two saxes in that picture not on this trip. I'm the only clarinetist on this trip. We have one more mellophone player. We have one more drummer than pictured here but the drummer in this picture isn't actually on the trip. We've got three more flutists and another trumpet, maybe he's the one in the back we can't really see?

Anyway, most of the people in this picture are here in Green Bay, and all of us are extremely excited!

Nothing to apologize for....:)

I was typing while RKarger was posting, and so I did not see his/her answer when I posted my original reply, now edited....

I find it quite endearing that we have such a quality ice hockey program and such an enthusiastic pep band, especially as in every other way the pep band members that I know are so charmingly stereotypically geeky (or whatever the appropriate slang term is....I differentiate between a geek and a nerd because to me a nerd has no social skills while a geek may have social skills and be fine company, merely that s/he is interested and entertained by intellectual pursuits far more than most people).

sort of like this board, I guess, we have people running multi-variate regression analyses and people can barely type a sentence without a spelling error (though very few of the latter on this thread!).

You better apologize to Ms. Karger for calling her Mr. Karger. :p

I can't type a sentence without a spelling error, although I do catch about half of them. :D

Hmm. I'm pretty sure both terms are equally derogatory - or "quaint" for those of us who spent some time at the 'Tute. A Geek might be a little worse considering the term was originally used for a sideshow freak in the circus. A nerd is essentially a geek that doesn't bite heads off of chickens. The verb form of geek is not so bad. You can safely "geek out" for a couple of days, cramming for tests for instance, without completely losing your social graces.

Is there a neutral term then? Perhaps even a complimentary one? I'm not at all familiar with the usage you cite....we said 'so and so is a science geek' not in a derogatory way but merely in a descriptive way, while a nerd definitely did have connotations of social awkwardness.

as per wikipedia:
"Moron" was coined in 1910 by psychologist Henry H. Goddard from the Greek word moros, which meant "dull" (as opposed to "sharp"), and used to describe a person with a mental age located between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale. It was once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70, being superior in one degree to "imbecile" (IQ of 26-50) and superior in two degrees to "idiot" (IQ of 0-25). The word moron, ..., was formerly considered a valid descriptor in the psychological community, though these words have all now passed into common slang use, exclusively in a derogatory context.
"retarded" merely meant "something slowed his/her normal development" and was a benign synonym for "slowed down" or "held back."

Perhaps something similar has happened to "geek"? There was some electronics chain that would send out computer repair people to your home in cars marked "the geek squad."

Union certainly looks nervous.

As you know Ralph, I have been saying on this board for the last ten years that trap teams do not perform well in the National Tournament. I have been proven right again.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Slightly annoyed that TWC Sports is showing the HD feed of the Michigan/UNO game, but broadcasting it with bars on the sides and squeezing the video into a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than the widescreen it's being broadcast in.

Tried calling Time Warner and since the call center is completely unrelated to TWC Sports (which has no contact information online), there's nothing that can be done about it.

Hoping they figure it out before tomorrow's game but I don't have high hopes of it.

I'm on hold with a customer service rep at Time Warner who said she'd check with the engineering department and see if they can figure out what the issue is. And as I'm typing this, the picture changed to the proper aspect ratio!

I asked the representative for a direct number for Time Warner Cable Sports - she said that there wasn't one; I'd have to call the call center and they'd contact TWCS

Awesome! I apparently got a bum representative because he pulled up the channel, said "yep, that looks weird but nothing we can do about it" and that was the end of that.

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

Union certainly started out on fire-but UMD withstood the barage and proved that if you can stop the Union special teams, you can beat them. Union's power play did not fail to get shots-UMD juast got to every puck they could faster and cut off the passing lanes during the power plays. Kudos to UMD-they did exactly the job you have to do to defeat Union. I am still dreaming though of 2 ECAC teams getting to the final four.;)

Re: RPI 2010-2011 VI- Red Dead Redemption

The team made it to Green Bay and got a tour of Lambeau Field today:

GAwd what I would have given to be there....my two all-time favorite sports programs combined at the shrine that is Lambeau...outstanding!!!! Although, I think my head would have exploded from sheer joy !!! I've already contacted Iorizzo about getting a print of that photo for my wall..classic.:D

We made it into Green Bay safely. We are all (and by all, I mean, the team, Tim, myself, Kevin B, Jim Knowlton, et al) in the same hotel. We made it into Houston West for now. The hotel has shoddy internet, so I keep crapping out. Talk to y'all tomorrow.

Hey, at least they're not in GB ;)....watching CC absolutely take BC apart- wondering, together with AFA taking Yale to OT, if UND is watching do they start to realize that maybe a 4th seed is no joke.... or, looking at " the glass half-full"...does RPI get a lift out of what other 4th seeded teams have done so far?...They just had the Secretary of the NCAA rules on between 2&3rd period of CC/BC trying to explain the contraversial goal....didn't convince me...if you can't see the puck how can you overturn the on-ice call which was NO GOAL
