Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

It's possible his departure from the team is very recent. The individual player info pages for the men's team range from http://rpiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3002&path=hockey to http://rpiathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=3030&path=hockey. Info comes up for every rp_id in that range except for 3017 (most like Morissette).

I agree. The team picture can't be too old since Bob Brinkworth's banner can be seen.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Well this thread is coming to an end pretty quickly. Depending on how things go over the next week I think the next thread could be titled "I still believe in Seth Appert" or for the naysayers "I believed in Seth Appert".

My thoughts are that we had two clunkers - SLU and Niagara. Other than that even our losses have been fairly well played. York is dinged up and we got a bunch of backhanders on LD. It may take until January for some of the guys to heal up but overall I see progress and I remain positive.

Therefore if we happen to lose these upcoming games, I suggest that we go with "What me worry?" because I think Seth looks a lot like Alfred E Newman in that poster.

Actually, the only loss in the last stretch that has concerned me for the most part was Colgate.

SLU - Held fast on defense for the most part in the face of an all-out assault, only goals came within a window of about 2 minutes.

Niagara - Midweek non-conference away game with a mash-up lineup. Beyond useless for evaluation either way.

Union - Tough first period but the team never gave up, kept coming back, GWG wasn't a function of being out of place.

Cornell - Played well enough to win, got beat on a nice goal

Colgate - Team started slow, caught back up but had a series of brain farts in the third.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Having seen the Union (tournament championship) and Colgate games in person, what bothers me is:
We can play poorly early and come back to even. However, just when we should be pulling ahead, we stall.
It makes for a very exciting game with a big disappointment in the end.
We have to start better, and keep it going for three periods.
This team has a lot of fight in it. No game is out of reach. But they have to continue once they get even.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I should further mention that while the Colgate game was the only one individually that bothered me as a loss, the losses combined are also starting to become troublesome. The combined effect is what makes tonight's game extra important. Really stinks that the entire season might end up turning on a midweek game, but at least it's at home.

season-turners that equate to mid-week games against a Colgate safety school are unsettling...

Very unsettling loss tonight-we had this one in hand and just went into a prevent defense that only prevented us from a victory.:(

This was the first game I've taken in visually this year (as opposed to just the WRPI feed). I think I'm going to be ill. If the GLI is even half as painful as this, I'm gonna need even more alcohol than I was already planning on drinking.

Belly up to the bar....first round on me.....or until your numb. Hopefully you're small in stature!!!

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Once again, a ridiculous show from the zebras, but we have nobody to blame for the loss but ourselves. That said, one of the linesmen had a vendetta against Pirri and felt the need to throw him out as he approached the faceoff circle, multiple faceoffs in a row. When Pirri tried to ask why, he was threatened with a penalty. There was a mix of bogus calls and non-calls both ways, make-up calls, all the usual. Can't comment on the 5x3 to start the game as both calls were behind the play and I didn't see either.

Up a goal late in the third period, we let Union WALK ALL OVER US. It looked like a nonstop power play for U. They score the extra attacker goal and you could tell that our guys were now playing for a tie and not a win. And when we play to tie we inevitably lose.

To lead 2-1, 3-1, and 4-3 and still manage to lose this game is quite a feat. Some credit for Union's initial comeback (to 3-3) to York, who let in the same exact shot by MVT over his stick side shoulder twice in a row. You could see Union sending shots wide to the top left corner of the net trying to sneak it under the bar the entire game. York seems absolutely unable to stop shots high on that side. On U's 3rd goal it literally looked like he didn't even try to lift his shoulder, let alone get an arm up.

Union played hard the whole game, and made the most of their chances. We let off the gas pedal with the lead and as we should expect, let them back into it.

We're in a pretty bad spot now going into the holiday break from ECAC play. I hope to see Red make the drive out to Boston worth it on Friday, if for no other reason than not to head into the GLI on a 5-game losing streak. Beating BU may help to salvage some confidence moving forward.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

what a great 57 minutes of hockey we played, since Unions first goal was literally handed to them by the ref's it was pretty much 4-2. Then we decided to go to sleep while standing on the ice and York had another **** poor performance after playing pretty good for 2 periods.
Whatever Appert is doing, he needs to change it because Mario cock sucker was given those 2 goals in the 3rd by our d who decided it'd be better to let him shoot then actually take the puck away despite outnumbering him, though both were very stoppable shots - York didn't see the first and the next he didn't cut off the angle which made it pretty easy. Apparently to beat York all you have to do is shoot high on his stick side and its almost guaranteed, well basically any one on one with him will score. He should have been pulled after those 2 in a row, at least Merriam is bigger so by falling like York did he might have stopped the game tying goal
We outworked, out-hustled, out-skated, and overall out-played Union just like we did against Cornell, Colgate(a little less), and Union the last time. Our goals were pretty and well earned, theirs were basically freebies - pretty much like all the ones we gave to Colgate.
Our Offense is great but our d couldn't stop a 3rd grader that doesn't even know how to skate.

Also, Appert needs to bring back the freaking peoples line.
AAG & Cullen both had fantastic games, Malchuk & O'Grady on the same line created so much offensive pressure but they needed someone to finish - Rabbani didn't quite cut it

at least Appert is consistent in having his teams fall apart after good starts (you know, in those early games that DON'T MATTER), hopefully the break in ECAC play will be like a whole new start to the season when we come back and face Union @ Messa

Actually, no... you didn't.

Are you arguing that RPI didn't spend much of the game keeping Union on its heels, or that RPI didn't outplay their opponents in some of those previous games? Because one I'd agree with and one I wouldn't.

I didn't see either the last Union game or the Colgate game. I disagree with his/her assessment of tonight and the game with Cornell. And based on most of his/her other posts, I have no reason to give him/her credibility for those games that I didn't see. If you outwork, outskate etc. it's pretty hard to come out on the other side 0-4, no?

Also, the name he called that one player doesn't make him/her look any smarter.

And I am very, very far from a Union fan.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Not sure where to start, on the good side, I credit our guys for grabbing the 2 goal lead, and then going ahead again later in the 3rd. However we couldnt put them away. They kept working on us and using their speed to create chances.

Thought we looked good in spurts and at times passes were not connecting and Union had the jump on us. Credit U for a game well played, I can see what Schaffer meant by his comments in Sundays TU. They skate well and play a full 60, something we cant seem to do.

Blowing this game is unacceptable. Book seems to be out on York as was evident way back at the UMass game, he gets beat high, made some great stops with the lower part of his body however. Perhaps he was screened on some of them but the front of the net must be cleared.

Late in the 3rd our D looked slow and tired. Unions tying goal was a rebound sitting in the slot and nobody could seem to locate it. Unions forwards were beating us to loose pucks and they looked like they wanted it more, IMO. I saw some of our guys bail when we had chances to finish checks, or check a U player that had the puck on the boards at points in the game.Names will go unmentioned.

This is a tough pill to swallow, and I must say its one of the tougher losses we've all had to endure. I felt sick all the way home and still do. Coach has his work cut out for him to keep these guys up. If its any consolation, at least there is a 2 week break after BU Friday night which may help them forget about this bad loss.

You are a bigger embarrassment than that game was. How dare you belittle a good, solid player who plays the game the right way, just because he scored a few goals against the team you like. Mario Valery-Trabucco is a hell of a good hockey player. I'm not going to be sorry to see him graduate. But how dare you take away from what he did out there, like it was only him stumbling into what he did, and using a name that crude. Have a little bit of self-respect. I almost wish I was rooting for Union, just so I could claim that I don't root for the same team as you.

But not the one from this afternoon

Look, I will defend my team to the death when it's an unjust attack, but ThePeople was over the line to the extreme.
