Just watched the goal that evened the score when Union pulled the goalie. I am wondering why the players Killing were all placed around the net and no one was attacking the shooters? That was a huge mistake and it looks clear their attack was different than other Kills. Looked like a coaching adjustment. Without anyone attacking the shooter we gave them free access to the goal and while the puck was sitting at the goal line it was pushed in. Really a disappointing loss and the coaching staff needs to make some adjustments in goal and on D. We need to go after the wins even when we are in the lead or teams will bounce back and steal the game. Too many games we should have won and walked away with the Loss. This one was tough to take. Too much talent on this team to lose games like this one.

It's on. I'm also confident that we can do it in 24 hours, especially thanks to a midweek game earlier tonight and another game on Saturday.

That said, we're still 17 pages behind Michigan Tech. (Not that that's a bad thing.)

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Wild understatement alert:

That's a bad loss.

I've found myself watching the defensemen more often than not and I'm not liking what I've been seeing. Bryan Brutlag is falling back on very bad habits and the defense plays very tenative worrying about positioning rather than playing defense in situations where they're outmanned, be it on the penalty kill or with the extra attacker against them. It doesn't help when I see defensemen do their job to move guys away from the net and then get penalized for it, Foss' penalty for "roughing" was a joke.

We'll see what they can do against BU on Friday. They're clearly gripping sticks too tight right now offensively and the defense is playing scared and stupid. BU is in a similar sort of funk as RPI is so if they can get some things figured out there that could help them get a little traction going into the GLI.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Brutlag plays defense? Half of the time he was out there in the offensive zone, I see him at the circles or further up. I've even heard the coaches yell "Stay home, Bryan!" during those plays. I obviously admire that he wants to get in there and make the plays, but he has to stand his ground and make sure no one gains that out-of-the-gate position.

But yea, time to whupp some rear in Boston on Friday. Let's get it done, and out of this current funk.

He does seem to make a lot of bad decisions (which lead to bad plays). If he wants to play like a forward maybe they should put him on the line with Malchuk and O'Grady while Kerins sits out at BU. Put either Vassel or Zarbo in his place and see what happens.

When Bergin returns, it'll be interesting to see who sits.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

“It’s a stinging loss, no question,” he said. “But again, there were a lot of good things. It’s not that we’re playing poorly, it’s that we’re reacting poorly in big moments."

“But no, this won’t have a lasting affect."
SA

I think he is right it is a "stinging loss" for it not to have a "lasting affect" he has some work to do.
They aren't playing poorly.

When they put the Jumbo Tron in I will be able to speak to how well or how poorly York is playing

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

You are a bigger embarrassment than that game was. How dare you belittle a good, solid player who plays the game the right way, just because he scored a few goals against the team you like. Mario Valery-Trabucco is a hell of a good hockey player. I'm not going to be sorry to see him graduate. But how dare you take away from what he did out there, like it was only him stumbling into what he did, and using a name that crude. Have a little bit of self-respect. I almost wish I was rooting for Union, just so I could claim that I don't root for the same team as you.
At the risk of becoming a Red Cloud suck up, thank you.

RC, Amen. You beat me to it. Mario is an outstanding human being besides being a fine hockey player. There is no excuse for what this idiot wrote...even if he was so ****ed off, he has had plenty of time to edit that post.

RPI fans USUALLY have more class than what this idiot has published. I am ashamed that he calls himself a RPI supporter.

I agree the D struggled all night night. On the goal that made it 3-2, Merth made the right play and stood up the puck handler, only to see his linemates watch as the other forward scooped up the puck and bury it. Ugly. That's when I knew we were in trouble. I thought they were flat footed and struggled to anticipate anything.

Offensively, we missed several early chances to blow the game wide open, again. I thought Union got under Pirri's skin early on and he was off all night. Then again, Emanatian's personal campaign to keep him out of the faceoff circle might've had something to do with it. His frustration grew as the night wore on.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Schott had Buddy Powers on Schlapp Schotts a little while ago. Good to hear what Buddy has been up to. I was disappointed that there was zero discussion of tomorrow night's game, which aside from Roger's walk down memory lane, was the presumed reason to have booked Buddy on the show in the first place.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Once again, a ridiculous show from the zebras, but we have nobody to blame for the loss but ourselves. That said, one of the linesmen had a vendetta against Pirri and felt the need to throw him out as he approached the faceoff circle, multiple faceoffs in a row. When Pirri tried to ask why, he was threatened with a penalty. There was a mix of bogus calls and non-calls both ways, make-up calls, all the usual. Can't comment on the 5x3 to start the game as both calls were behind the play and I didn't see either.

Up a goal late in the third period, we let Union WALK ALL OVER US. It looked like a nonstop power play for U. They score the extra attacker goal and you could tell that our guys were now playing for a tie and not a win. And when we play to tie we inevitably lose.

To lead 2-1, 3-1, and 4-3 and still manage to lose this game is quite a feat. Some credit for Union's initial comeback (to 3-3) to York, who let in the same exact shot by MVT over his stick side shoulder twice in a row. You could see Union sending shots wide to the top left corner of the net trying to sneak it under the bar the entire game. York seems absolutely unable to stop shots high on that side. On U's 3rd goal it literally looked like he didn't even try to lift his shoulder, let alone get an arm up.

Union played hard the whole game, and made the most of their chances. We let off the gas pedal with the lead and as we should expect, let them back into it.

We're in a pretty bad spot now going into the holiday break from ECAC play. I hope to see Red make the drive out to Boston worth it on Friday, if for no other reason than not to head into the GLI on a 5-game losing streak. Beating BU may help to salvage some confidence moving forward.

I completely agree with this...total incompetence and unprofessional demeanor from Emanatian...instead of telling Pirri what he expected, he got in his face and threaten him with a penalty. Appert should take that up with Stewart, IMO. Total BS. Meanwhile, U's Boileau never squared up and I don't believe was ever once got tossed from the circle. As a practical matter, I don't understand why we had Emanatian as a crew member for three straight games?? So much for mixing up the (s)crews.

Completely agree. The poster in question is a classless, ignorant buffoon.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Very unsettling loss tonight-we had this one in hand and just went into a prevent defense that only prevented us from a victory.:(

I thought both teams' defenses tired in the 3rd period. Not making excuses, just an overall comment on the 3rd period. Leaman said as much with Schott this a.m. Once again we didn't cash in on any of the many early chances we had to blow it open. Kincaid left several juicy rebounds which we didn't bury.

I'd be remiss in not complementing AAG on bringing great energy to the ice last night. Alex was our fastest and most energetic forward last eve, IMO. D'Amigo looked a bit better which is a good thing heading to BU. He still needs to get the puck on the net more.

A disappointing loss that smacked far too much of the bad old days. Hope we can wipe the slate clean and grind out a win in Beantown tomorrow.

Anyone planning on making the trip over? I'm still thinking strongly about it, even though my last road trip - Niagara - was... well I won't go there...:p

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

Jason Walters (7) (Adam Presizniuk, Mike Schreiber) 19:09
Mike Schreiber (4) (Stephane Boileau, Jonathan Lareau) 19:41

Well. Now we know what 32 seconds means.

Boileau never squares up (and did so only once after a thorough discussion) and when he tried to "cheat" in again he got booted out. Boileau, however, is about as bad of a face-off cheater as I've seen in college. That's up to the linesmen to do something about it though.
