Sorry to intrude on your thread, but why does your coach insist on playing Burgdoerfer and Brutlag together? IMO, they are a penalty waiting to happen.

Doesn't the "Without a peer" weekend recap come out on Mondays?

Tom usually puts the men's recaps up Monday evening. I typically do the women's recap Sunday or Monday depending on mood, work, phase of the moon, or any of a number of other potential factors.

My random speculation (read: pulling stuff out of my rear-end) is that once Bergin returns, Burgdoerfer might get a game or two off to think about what he's done. He's had more than a few head-shaking moments this year, the Army and Colgate games in particular.

There must be some different motivation from this by Coach. Perhaps they work well together as a pairing on the blue line. I don't think it's motivated by being in the box.

oh by the way, I blame our loss Saturday entirely on the pep band for playing Sweet Caroline - it's a new low in the already dwindling status of our pep band who can't even time their "Clarkson still sucks" with the rest of the student body

Am I glad I only play with them on occasional visits... and not because of the choice in repertoire.

Interesting statistic... Brutlag was on the ice for *all 5* of Colgate's goals Saturday night, as well as Cornell's game-winning goal Friday night. Only twice out of those six goals was he paired up with Burgdoerfer at the time the goal was scored.

As a distraction from the current debate, our former AD ended up in an interesting situation in his new position out at Colorado College, relating to an off-mic comment accidentally broadcasted on B2...

This is one reason that I love watching the away games on B2. The guys calling the game never seem to realize that the microphones transmit to B2 even when they go commercial for their radio feed. Last season I heard a few funny comments, but the one that stuck out most was the announcers for Cornell making fun of their own basketball team (who I think were in the NCAA tourney). This year one of the announcers for another team (I think it was SLU) was complaining about the new sock things the RPI team wears over their shin guards, which I also found somewhat amusing.

Re: RPI 2009 - 2010 Part II: I Believe in Seth Appert

I was disappointed to see in Sunday’s TU that the coach was quoted as saying the five players on the ice for ‘gate’s fifth goal were “embarrassing”. I was also disappointed to see in Saturdays TU a quote from the coach to the effect that the Cornell goalie outplayed York. I didn’t like the Eizenman benching, the Ornelas benching or this year’s “puppy pooh” benchings. In addition to presenting the program in a poor light, I think singling out players in this manner is counter-productive in that it breaks the “us versus the world” attitude that is important for successful teams. I also don’t think public humiliation is a good motivator. Some may view these types of actions as being appropriately tough. Personally, if he has “puppy pooh” issues, I’d rather see him rant and rave in private or even skate them till their feet bleed.

Said it before, I'll repeat it again --> The last coach to drive accountability through benchings is responsible for a few of the prominent banners in the HFH.

You sure you want to bring that up? The keepers of '85 are going to come down hard on you now, calling you a liar and whatnot. :D

Is that a cue?

Addessa was harsh on his players for sure. Almost to a man they hated hiim - but they respected him too. Yes he let them know when they were playing poorly and he wasn't afraid to bench them. But, to my recollection, he did not go through the media to let them know what he thought.

I suggest this is the MO of most coaches. Don't speak badly of your players in public but let them know where they stand face to face and in private. I think Appert would be better served speaking in boring generalizations to the media. Don't resort to silly name calling. Just say that they aren't playing the way that they know they can and some time off is what they need. Claude Julien did just that with Matt Hunwick after the Montreal game the other night.

Appert didn't call anyone out by name, Ed Weaver spelled out things for everyone reading. The situation was obvious and I'm sure those players knew what they did was poorly executed. I think if the players can't handle that kind of criticism then perhaps they've got bigger problems.

I'm sure what they've heard behind closed doors is a lot more harsh than what was said in the paper.

It's cause Brutlag thinks he is a forward, taking bad pinches all game and leaving the line to skate to the goal only to be off balance and fire it directly into the chest of the keeper or lose the puck. Burgdoerfer is a solid d man in the defensive zone, but on the blue line he misses a lot of pucks and ends up getting stripped half the time - fortunately the other d is usually sitting behind waiting for him to make a mistake

Ugh...this team really needs Bergin back, our blue line passing is past terrible without him(maybe because everyone shoots the same side...)

I agree that Smith is better than Vassel, but although he also is better than Halpern, they perform different roles.

True -- Halpern has a better offensive touch than Smith. Halpern was all over the ice vs. Cornell and had several key plays, even if they didn't make sheet. He did have the 2nd assist on our lone goal Fri. night. I do like Smith -- he understands the role of physical play -- and can deliver it . I think he could've helped us vs. the club draggers from SUNY Ithaca.

While I see what you're saying, Yale and Princeton the last two years have shown what it takes to beat them and it's speed and skill and pressure on their puck carriers. Trying to get into a slugfest with them is only going to wear you out because that's what they're built for.

Halpern has speed but the skill is lacking, he may be able to race to a lot of pucks but he doesn't get that much done when he gets it. Smith has the ability to sustain an offensive possession and help out a lot more defensively(i think we need that) than Halpern. Hes much better on the boards, physical doesn't just mean hitting or a slugfest or whatever.
I don't think Cornell played particularly physical though, they just forecheck hard and they skate pretty well, which I think Smith would've helped more with. Also Princeton and Yale both have speed that surpasses ours.
I expect(okay, more like hope) Smith to play against Union who is a really physical team and would just grab onto Halpern's leg all game. Though I definitely don't mind seeing both Halpern & Smith with Vassel sitting, but i'd rather see Lee out there than anyone else
