Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Gut check time! The Engineers gave up in the second period after they couldn't score in the first. They should be ashamed of themselves.
It time for Seth to put the hammer down.

That effort on "freakout night" was pathetic. They should really be ashamed. This team is too talented to let a banged up Tiger team beat them 7 to 0 in their own barn. They embarrassed themselves.

I hope Appert wasn't serious when he said "it was just one of those nights"
Yeah, one of those nights when your team played without any leadership.

Ok, they ran into a hot goalie. What did this goalie have like 4 out of the 7 goals scored?

Somebody on this team needs to step up and grow a set.

Wow, is that what you saw?
I don't want to start anything, so I will just say that I disagree with everything you just said.
They have nothing to be ashamed of, they tried to the end, they did stop playing as a team, and that cost them, but the individuals played their hearts out.

Red was just starting to crank it up when Merriam misplayed the puck behind his net and Princeton picked up the easy goal which IIRC made it 3-0. That was a backbreaker. You could just see the air get let out of the balloon...that was the game-changing goal.

I think all the PPs in the first period backfired...threw RPI off their game plan, got frustrated when they couldn't bury it, gave Princeton confidence.

This team has taken some big steps this season...need to develop a killer mentality, get the PP back on track, and get the big win at Starr on Friday night.

I was standing right behind the RPI goal for the 3rd goal, and I disagree a bit about what happened. Merriam came out of the net to play the puck, and as he was doing so Foss swooped through and crashed in to Merriam, knocking his stick out of his hands and sending the puck gently along the boards. Merriam made a movement toward his stick, which was farther behind the net, before changing his mind and skating back around the goal stickless. The goal was scored against a stickless Merriam who was still not entirely in front of the net. I thought this goal was mostly Foss's fault; had he not interfered Merriam would have been easily able to get back in front of the goal in time, and would have still had his stick.

That's how I saw it too RHam...there was a whole lotta traffic back there. Also, one of P'ton PP goals came when Malchuk lost his stick on the kill and gambled -- going after the stick -- P saw this and filled the space that he left, scoring a goal.

I don't know about the Red Cloud sighting, but that gallery shares a common trait with RPI admissions brochures - a disproportionate number of females.

And I'm disappointed that the kool aid man was not sighted.. sigh.

What a fail. Time to break out the plastic pants again, Beman.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

My apologies for breaking from Beman putting his foot in his mouth, but.....

Some playoff scenarios, since playoffstatus.com doesn't know about kissing sisters.....

RPI gets 0 points: We play a first round game. If SLU gets at least a tie in either game, we don't know against who (likely Dartmouth). If SLU gets swept, it's against Clarkson.

RPI gets 1 point: We play a first round game. It doesn't matter against whom we tie; only with what SLU does. If they get 1 win or 2 ties, we don't know against who (likely Dartmouth). If SLU gets swept or 1 tie, it's against Clarkson.

RPI gets 4 points: We get the bye. No question.

RPI gets 2 points:
If it's a win against Colgate: We hold the tiebreak against Colgate. If SLU gets at least a win and a tie, we play Clarkson in the first round. Anything short, we get the bye. It doesn't matter what happens to Colgate.
If it's a win against Cornell: We play a first round game. If SLU gets at least a win and a tie, we don't know against who (likely Dartmouth). Anything short, it's against Clarkson.
If it's 2 ties: We can still get the bye. Union MUST beat Colgate. If SLU gets at least a win and a tie, we play Clarkson in the first round if Union beats Colgate, otherwise we don't know who (likely Dartmouth). Anything short, if Union beats Colgate, we get the bye, otherwise we play Clarkson in the first round.

RPI gets 3 points:
If the tie is against Colgate: We can still get the bye. If SLU sweeps, we play Clarkson in the first round if Union beats or ties Colgate, otherwise we don't know who (likely Dartmouth). If SLU does not sweep, if Union beats Colgate, we get the bye, otherwise we play Clarkson in the first round.
If the tie is against Cornell: If SLU sweeps, we play Clarkson. Otherwise, we get the bye.

Cliffs Notes version: Sweep the weekend, but if you can't, just don't lose to Colgate.

Thanks for this...but now my head hurts from trying to follow it all. :D Looks like it will be another fun final weekend in the ECAC. This stuff never gets old for me.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Big Union fan on Friday night for two reasons. First, it ensures Union 2nd place, which would mean we wouldn't face them until Albany (like I said a month ago and people doubted me. Maybe someday people will realize that's a tactical error) regardless of how we finish and almost certainly not until a potential championship matchup. Second, it puts Cornell in 3rd place with nothing to play for in terms of the ECAC on Saturday (although they still have Pairwise concerns, unfortunately). The second one rings true even if Cornell wins. If there's no winner, that's when the battle continues.

Friday is by far the more important game of the weekend but it would be nice going into Saturday in an advantageous position, if not with nothing at all to play for. A win and a SLU loss is all it would take.

Or better said, just another year of muddled ECAC standings.:D

Which is precisely why I don't pay any attention to Ithinkthismightbethepairingifthishappens.com... :p

It appears Friday night's game at Starr will be picked up by TW3.
