Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

It appears Friday night's game at Starr will be picked up by TW3.

Actually, this year Time Warner has been pushing to get NYS college sports shown across the state on the sports channel. In Syracuse, we got a lot of the RPI and Union games that would have previously only been shown in the Albany market. You guys are getting RPI/Colgate, which would have previously only been shown in this market. I have a friend who works in the IT department, and have asked him to pass my thanks to the programming department for broadcasting these games in this market. I would recommend writing (or e-mailing) to Time Warner and letting them know that you also appreciate them doing this, if you do. :)

Personally, given how we tend to perform when televised by TW3, and that RPITV's coverage is free, better, and also archived online the next day, I'd prefer that TW stay away from HFH altogether and limit their coverage to the occasional away game only.

That I'd be OK with. However, if TW is going to broadcast it, I'd like to be able to see it, because them broadcasting means that RPI TV is not allowed to do so, at least that's what I would assume.

My apologies for breaking from Beman putting his foot in his mouth, but......

What could you possibility disagree with.

It was not a game to be proud of. If the players are proud of that game then they have a problem.

“It was just one of those games.” Do you think Seth believes that! If so, you just are plain stupid. Go to practice today and I’ll bet Seth doesn’t say, “don’t worry about it was just one of those games.”
If Appert is worth his salt, this weeks practice sessions will be hell.

What do you think Addessa would do? They would be running up Peoples Ave today.

You know nothing

Well, you make it easy for me to be succinct by being as outlandish, ridiculous, and lacking in grammatical skill as humanly possible.

Hanging out in a pub, nah don’t think so. Going to a hockey game, nah don’t think so. I would hate sitting there explaining everything.

But a spelling B you da man! You would be number one my list.

Wow... talk about taking what I said COMPLETELY out of context. Beman, you were having a discussion with Red Cloud, it seemed like you were putting your foot in your mouth, I had chosen to change the subject, and had apologized for doing so, as changing the subject isn't "kooth" on most message boards.

However, for your comments, you are correct in that we did not win, and that there were some things that the team's components could have done to keep the game closer. However, Kalemba was a brick house Saturday night. That kind of thing just happens. We can't say that we didn't have our chances; we had 41 shots. We were definitely screening him, taking shots, fishing for rebounds, and the puck just wasn't going in. There isn't much you can do about that. With other teams against Allen York in some of our games, it was the same thing.

As for the final phrase, I attended both games and was quite conscientious of detail. Not only that, for two periods, I had a better view of the Princeton net than about 4,000 other people in the building. If you feel obligated to throw out insults, I would recommend picking a target that is not well informed.

If it's anything like the Cornell/Colgate game that was on NHL Network last week, NHL Network is just simulcasting the Time Warner broadcast.

When you run into a brick house, you get beat 1-0, 2-0, 3-1 if a full 60 minute effort was put forth.

The 4th Princeton goal did it for me, loose puck sitting between the circles in our zone for a few seconds at least, BOTH of our d-men are standing there , doing whatever, and a Princeton forward swoops in from close to the blue line, BEFORE our two d-men can get to the puck, and roofed it on Merriam. At that point it was 3-0, still a game. Clarkson freakout a few years back, remember?

The 5th goal? Merth putting it right on a Princeton's player stick on our goal line which resulted in a goal? Any comments on these plays? Can we play for 60 minutes at this point in the season? How can this be excused as "One of those nights" when a 1st round bye is in our sight.

Weaver or coach can spin it any way they want, but I tend to agree with the fact that besides running into a hot goalie, we also ran into a team that wanted it more that night. With the talent on this team there is no way any team is 7 goals better than us.

I'm not sure anyone said the players should be proud of the game. I think what has been posited is that sometimes you put in effort, things don't go your way, and sometimes it snowballs.

My 8 year old son just read your post and asked what this is about. I showed him the box score and here is what he said. It's not the players fault that the goalie for Princeton played well.

Now that is just an 8 year old's opinion but it would not surprise me if it was closer to Appert's take than your suggestion to run them into the ground. The Addessa way is for when there is a lack of effort. If the guys played hard and it just didn't come together then a good coach probably brings them all in on Monday and tells them to forget Saturday even happened. Let's have a good strong week of practice (not a good punitive one) and kick Colgate's *** on Friday.

Very, very well said, husker. Your son does at least seem to know a little about what he's talking about.

Look, we didn't do anything particularly WELL on Saturday, but we didn't play excessively POORLY either. Kalemba was indeed, for the first time all year, the goaltender he was last season, and we didn't bury any of our chances. Princeton is a frustrated team (they're probably going to be on the road in two weeks, where they were supposed to be a bye team) and they took those frustrations out on Saturday. I agree, let's move on.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Kalemba was indeed, for the first time all year, the goaltender he was last season, and we didn't bury any of our chances.

In my opinion, we helped Kalemba look like the Dryden winner he was last season. We screened, we took shots, but shots from in close on an empty net were put wide or high and a vast majority of our shots were from the points or zero-angle.

I saw this post on the Women's Olympics thread, relating to the US's 9-1 pasting of Sweden this afternoon. I think it relates very well to what happened on Saturday.

After a pretty competitive start, Sweden faded badly in this game. The U.S. scored a couple, and Sweden began to lose their energy. By the 3rd, they had nothing left to give

Moving forward... this upcoming weekend is going to be a heck of a weekend. What has to be the hardest road trip of the year, coming on the last weekend of the season, with tremendous implications on who has to play next week and who doesn't. I can't wait.

True, but trust me when I say that he himself has not looked that good all year.

Most of the high number of shots he faced were very weak, but he looked very, very good on our solid scoring opportunities.

IMO RPI looks to be a tired hockey team and the last thing they need is a brutal practice. I also feel that if this team is going to advance any further than last year in the playoffs a bye is a must.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

The discussion on the RPISPORT-L right now is mindnumbingly stupid. Somebody ran their mouth about D'Amigo and his effort, negatively comparing it to his showing in the WJC, and I don't blame his mom for chiming in and calling him on it. It was a low blow and was highly unnecessary. Lots of people saying a lot of stupid things - the bedwetters running wild.

It figures. The bedwetters are the ones that would complain about losing BRF! regardless of how the team did, as you detailed in your "news from the future" post months ago. I'm sure the person yelling the loudest is the same dope that threw their giveaway on the ice after the fifth goal.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Am I glad I do not subscribe to that list..... let me take a wild guess, his signature includes "fire appert"...

Whatever. And I'll say it again, and don't really care if the person decides to neg rep me again, but I'll listen to someone that actually supports their team. Whichever team it happens to be. And by that, I mean following the 10 commandments of RPI hockey (or similar guidelines for other teams), especially the 10th. I realize this could be considered not following the 9th, but that person probably only showed up for Freakout anyway. We have a chance at a first round bye. And a halfway decent shot at getting to the ECAC championships. Oh wait, I forgot, we lost Freakout, it means nothing.

As for D'Amigo, is he having a little difficulty scoring with a wide open net? Yes. Once in 3 out of 4 games. If those shots are off balance, I will give him the benefit of the doubt. How about all of the other things that go on when he doesn't have the puck? Creating chances on the penalty kill? Hard checking? Beating defenders with skill? The points he already has? Blocking shots? Oh wait, I forgot, he didn't score on one chance, I guess he must suck.

I'm going to bed before I type something that I might regret.
