Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I told everyone who would listen that RPI, Union, and Colgate would all be fighting for top spots, but did anyone listen? Nooooooooooo.

One day people are going to realize that disagreeing with Red Cloud really is a tactical error.

I think that my 11th place prediction for Union was binary. Do you think that Vic would go for that? ;)

One more suggestion for a thread title -

RPI 2009-10 Part V: OK, Now It's Time to Get Hot!

Your graciousness is so noted. :p

Thread title wise, I like "Chase for the Championship", because it is sort of our playoff thread, even though we have two games left, and it is more than likely we will complete this thread before those two games have been played. The fifth one just wins the page. :D

I also agree with the last one being a good off-season title.

As for the freshmen, everyone keeps bringing up D'Amigo, and he certainly deserves the accolades, but come on. Pirri is piling up points this year and making everyone he plays with look good. If I were to vote for outstanding freshman, right now it would be Pirri.
Two very different players in very different roles. One is a good puck possession play-making center. The other is a speedy winger and great penalty killer. No need to favor one over the other really.

If you are suggesting outstanding freshman in the ECAC then yes I think one of our boys deserves it. If nationwide, then I have to say that they are #2 and #3 among those I've seen. Not sure if anyone else on this board has seen him but Da Costa of Merrimack gets my vote. That kid has eyes in the back of his head and reminds me of another #9 from RPI's past (Juneau). At the risk of being sacrilegious, I would take Da Costa over Pirri if I needed a play-making center. Whereas If I needed a speedy winger, no one I've seen is better than D'Amigo.

2.) I cant for the life of me believe that posters are taking swings at some of the players that they are. D'Amigo ? Are you serious ? What a difference this year's class has made. They're FRESHMEN. Our biggest issue if going to be keeping them around long enough to be able to make a serious run in the NCAAs. For those knocking some of these kids, tell me what team in the ECAC (and in particular those teams currently above us in the standings) wouldnt want guys like D'Amigo playing for them ? I'll take a whole team of him and we'd be unstopable.

Go you RED !!
I agree with all of this - especially regarding the freshmen. NONE of these kids have played like freshmen we have had in the recent past. In fact, people who I have chatted with at away games are surprised/shocked when I tell them that these guys are freshman. Whatever happens in stretch run, these guys are gonna be one scary crew next year.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I only mention Jerry because I believe that he's a great kid and I love the way he plays. As for Pirri, you are correct he's collecting points like bottlecaps and less spoken about than others right now. I'll change my point slightly...what team in the ECAC would want Pirri, D"Amigo, or even O'Grady on their team right now ? I'd venture very few. What about next year Big Luke, JL and LeBoeuf ? We run thru threads like crazy as it is - next year is gonna be out of control.

That's my vote for title also. It's likely that we will complete this thread before the 2:32 PM EST thread closing bot makes his rounds. :D

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

I didnt have a chance to go to the game Sat night, but taped and watched later. I agree with whoever posted the same thought, but didnt have a good feeling after not scoring in the first 10 min. I didnt think we played great, but also didnt think poorly either...as typical with hockey it was a couple of 10 second lapses at times and Princeton capitalized. Whatever. Lets not make a huge deal out of it because I would be willing to bet bottom dollar that the players themselves are way less than pleased with the outcome of the game.

A couple more thoughts...
1.) Did anyone actually think that this team would be in the running for a first round bye at the start of the season ? I dont think so. Granted, play has been up and down and we could / should have won a couple that we let slip by, but I cant be anything but enthuiastic over this team, its potential, and its future.
2.) I cant for the life of me believe that posters are taking swings at some of the players that they are. D'Amigo ? Are you serious ? What a difference this year's class has made. They're FRESHMEN. 3.) I see that LeBouf (sp?) just committed - thats a great addition for us (what is he, like 6'4" and 190 lb defenseman). Beautiful.
4.) If the commits that we have come on board this year, this team will be frightening.

Wanna a refresher - go back and read any of last year's end of season threads....people were ready to jump off bridges - and maybe rightly so. We are in a whole different league (of play) this year. I for one still dont mind flying a bit under the radar screen a bit. We have the ability to win this weekend, and even if we dont we still have the ability to win the ECACs. When's the last time we could say that ? Further, lets not be shortsighted with how incredibly far this team has come in the space of a single season.

Go you RED !!

great points from a true hockey fan ;)
