Oh. I thought you were concerned. :D

Nope. But I do think it is the right play and a classy play by Appert. I don't think is much if any of a dropoff between Vassel and Lee . CJ is has a better offensive instincts, but Vassel is great with pressure and always finishes his checks. In fact, with the amount of freewheeling hitting going on last night, we could've used both Lee and Vassel in the lineup, IMO.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

That was one horrible game to watch, so rather than dwell on it all week, let's look to this weekend, the final one of the regular season.

Tonight's loss make a first round bye a bit more difficult, but we still control our destiny. In fact, we can wrap up 4th place on Friday with a win vs. Colgate, combined with a SLU loss.

Currently, we have the same record as Colgate. A win would even the season series and thus send it to the 3rd tiebreaker (record vs. top 4). Since this is for the 4th seed, it is record vs. Yale, Union, & Colgate. Our record is 2-4-0 against them. Colgate's is 0-4-1, with a game left against Union. Thus, no matter the scores on Saturday, if we beat them on Friday, we have the tiebreaker. This is good.

Since your dots go red if you post anything critical, even if its respectful, about the only thing I can say about tonight's on-ice performance is that I thought the Zamboni drivers did a heck of a nice job.

Anyone who neg reps a critical review of tonight's game is due for a serious sanity check.

Perhaps I heard wrong on WRPI but I thought we played well in the first period but just could not put one by Kalemba. Had we gotten a few tht period perhaps the entire remainder of the game would have gone a bit differently. Those last 2 periods though were indeed the worst I think we have played all year.:(

Most of the first period was decent - we did outshoot Princeton 20-12 in that period alone. The deciding factor in the 1st was the inability to score on the power play. It's not every day we get handed any 5x3, let alone 2 in the same period. When you can't convert on either of them, take a penalty and let your opponent turn around and score less than a minute later, it's not a recipe for success.

Our shot selection was atrocious. We may have tallied 41 shots, but the vast majority of them were unscreened shots from the blue line which a peewee goalie could stop, or put directly into Kalemba's chest. Tack on another 10+ that sailed well wide or over the net. I remember one where most of the crowd stood up in anticipation of what should have been a sure goal, just to have us put it wide. I give Kalemba a ton of credit for a 41-save shutout, but we did nothing to make his life difficult last night.

If you think you've been neg repped in the past for critical yet respectful commentary, you're wrong.

I don't know what the hell happened last night. What a meltdown. That we're still in the driver's seat for the bye is amazing.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

How bad is York's injury ?? Colgate is actually in the driver's seat. Playing home and just needing a tie.

There's a switch. Usually the complaints are that we don't shoot enough. Perhaps we can all put the outshooting the other team argument to bed now?

From the Record article it sounds like it was just one of those nights when the opponent's goalie is just not going to get beat, the opponent gets a good bounce or two and then it's just not going to be your night. Better to lose like this than to blow a lead in the 3rd. These losses are easier to shake off.

Well said all around. Kalemba didn't really have to be impressive but he was when he had to be, especially in the 1st. Merriam did let in a couple of soft goals but the outcome wouldn't have been any different with a healthy York in net.

Classy of Princeton to continue pushing for another goal in the final minute with Harkenrider in net and having already scored twice on him.

When we didn't score in the first ten minutes, when Princeton was trying to give us the game with stupid penalties, I told my daughter that we were going to lose this game.
We did play well in the first, but could not score.
The second period, we were so out of sync that nothing we tried worked. On top of that, we could not get a bounce and we lost every battle for the puck in our offensive zone.
The third period was just like the second, except at that point, the players were trying to do everything individually. They wanted to score so bad, but they were frustrated.
Make no mistake, this was a very bad game to watch. But it was only two points.
Would it have made a difference if we lost 1-0?
We still control our own destiny.
So lets go out and take the next two games. We can't count on SLU losing.

Re: RPI 2009-10 Part IV: The Boys are Back in Town

Just wondering after most of this season is now past-maybe we are just a bit better than a .500 team? Now nothing wrong with that, it is a great improvement on the past 5 years. But maybe that is the level we have reached this year? If we are, that could be good as long as we now continue the next 2 games above .500 and stay above .500 in each playoff series? A win at Colgate and then perhaps a tie at Ithaca would be a pretty decent successful road weekend coming up. Then in the playoffs if we can go 2W and 1L in any series we play-we would get to Albany which was a very admirable goal for this year when the season started. Perhaps that is just the level we are at this year? If so, I for one am very pleased with the improvement after 5 disappointing years. Maybe with a little more improvement coming next year we can become NCAA tournament worthy for the first time in 15 years?
Just ruminating after a very poor result yesterday-I still love the talent on this team.

I agree with all of this -especially the feeling I had after failing to score in the 1st. *I would add that Kelemba was on fire and played like they keeper most of us remember him to be.

I had that same very same thought...running the score up against the #3 keeper impresses no one except perhaps your girlfriend. This is exactly why Jerry ran that kid over near the RPI bench at the buzzer leading to the skirmish..

I can only hope that we can use it as motivation and perhaps return the favor down the road...preferably in March.

He dressed and took warm-ups in both games this weekend but not play. I agree with RC, and barring a practice-week setback, predict you'll see him beween the pipes Friday night.
