Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010
I was at the game on Saturday (as well as Friday), and i only remember the first line being on the ice for one shift in the 3rd period on saturday, and that was immediately after the little skirmish that happened. I do believe that line scored on that shift, but i may be wrong (too lazy to go check the box score). The majority of the ice time was the 3rd and 4th lines for RIT. They were passing the puck around at least 7-8 times, more than 10 in most cases before they would shoot the puck. 95% of the shots were taken from the points and above the faceoff dots. They were not crashing the net, or anything that could have been considered as the coach asking for the team to run it it up. My view was that Potsdam just basically threw in the towel in the 3rd, and that they were just kinda going through the motions of being out on the ice.
I have to give applause to two potsdam players for the efforts they put in this weekend, and those are the two goalies that played for the bears. They had over 130 pucks fired at them this weekend, and it could have very easily been more, as they hardly gave up any rebounds.
As far as those of us in the corner, we all knew it was going to be a long day when the score was 6-0 after the 1st period. After about the 9th or 10th goal we pretty much stopped cheering and ringing the bell, with the exception of the 13th goal for the tigers, because as Tweedle Dee mentioned, we got to do Fibonacci. It has kind of been a running joke in the corner, but i dont think any of us ever really thought we would ever get to do it. We stopped cheering all together at pretty much the second intermission. We were just clapping politely for the goals at the end. Most of us at the end were just waiting for it to be over, so we could go do what we needed or wanted to before the mens game later that afternoon
All in all, i would say it would have to rate as one of the least fun and entertaining games I have been to involving RIT (been to almost every mens and womens home game over the past 5 years (came to RIT in Aug. 05) as well as a number of away games) Also I have to say that I feel bad for Potsdam as a program, in that this was a huge setback for a program that seemed to be making some progress in only its second year of DIII competition.
