RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

A lengthy discussion?

If it had of been me there would have been 3 hits. Me hitting the RIT coach, him hitting the ice and the ambulance hitting 60.

If that were to happen I would jump on the ice and defend my coach.

I heard from a reliable source that there was something verbally inappropriate said on the ice between two players that resulted in the RIT coach giving his players the go ahead to run things up...and that's all I'm saying about that...ask the coach if you want the full story,

I think after some of Potsdam's goonery on Friday RIT's coach said to run the score. After the second on Saturday I think he said take it easy but the the Potsdam goons came back and coach said to run it. At least that's my opinion on what happened.

Another parent living their dream through their child............. Please...it would be more embarrassing to implement a mercy rule for teams like this...

Definitely agree that there needs to be a mercy rule in college hockey. Running up the score benefits no-one, even though it can be entertaining for the home fans if the home team is running the score

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Give me a break, if you don't want to have teams lose by 16 goals make a mercy rule and save us all some time.

I did hear about this too, that players on Potsdam were giving Yokoyama a hard time. I wasn't sure about the validity of it, but if I'm not the only one who heard it then I guess it's got some weight.

Happen to know the Potsdam Coach. While I have no knowledge of this incident other than the account written on this board, I can tell you that this would not be a typical style under his direction, on the contrary. I suspect that there are two or maybe even more sides to this story.

All I can say is that if you run up the score, that more often than not gets remembered, and not just by the team at the receiving end.

As far as I'm concerned, once you are up by 6 plus goals, specially when you get to the third, you stop coaching, parents stop cheering, and you just complete the game by playing your lesser players, sit your top line, and just roll the other lines. It's called respect for the game and respect for the opponent.

Just my two cents.

I'm not saying Potsdam's coach is to blame at all for the actions of his players on the ice. If it were going on, and I believe he knew about it after Friday's game, I can't imagine he was too happy with his team about it.

With respect to your last paragraph, that is essentially what happened. The fourth line saw a lot of ice time in the 3rd. They were definitely just looking to pass when they were in the Potsdam zone, which was pretty much all of the third. But it's hard not to take a scoring chance when you get it, and they tapped home what was given to them. You can't really just tell players to turn it off completely. They toned it down, but it didn't really make a difference.

I'm pretty sure all shots in the 3rd were taken from the point, high slot or top of the circles. RIT was just kinda throwing the puck at the goal and it went in. Passing the puck back and forth for 20 minuets is boring for everyone involved.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

There is a very simple and effective way to stop scores from getting run up. I've had to employ it more times than I would like to think.

It's the 3 pass rule before you take a shot on net. If that doesn't work and your still scoring move it to 4 and 5 if you have to. If your team doesn't respond to that direct order from behind the bench then you sit the player who scores. It works, give it a try next time.

Actually I disagree with this. The best way to stop scores from getting run up is to schedule games with more competitive teams. Obviously Potsdam has to play us since they are in our conference but Potsdam doesn't deserve to be in the same conference as us. Perhaps they should play some local high school teams before playing us. That way, if they get beat by those teams, they may as well just fold.

Stop talking like an idiot. DIII women's hockey needs more teams not less. Potsdam just started last year...give them a break.

They passed more than 5 times before they shot during the game.

What an assanine comment.

Potsdam is a second year program. They actually won over Oswego, Cortland and Chatham last year in their inaugural season. You want those teams gone from your conference as well ?.

So they had a really rough weekend. Happens to the best of teams. Ever been on the wrong side of a double digit drubbing. You remember how that feels.? I'm not saying to have sympathy for them, but no need to club them over the head and then throw them out on the street. That is a Mobster type mentality.

Thank you for telling me they are a 2nd year program, as you just proved my point, which is you will get your butt kicked 10 times over at times. I don't see what the big deal is about getting killed by 16 goals is. Seeing as they are new, growing pains are inevitable. I've certainly been on the wrong side of things but that was as a result of being on a team that was just starting such as Potsdam and not established. All I'm trying to say is Potsdam's coach and apparently those who are outraged at the score seem to have overreacted. I'm sure things will be better for Potsdam as they get more experience, etc but don't take it out on us just because we had a better day.

I mean, what could we have done to prevent a run up of the score? Just dump the puck all day, lie down and let em shoot at our goalie? If they don't want to get beat by 16 goals, tell Potsdam to stop taking stupid penalties and according to one posting they were listless. If you want to beat someone, you can do it with heart and determination, something Potsdam apparently did not have.

What a class act:rolleyes:

It amazes me with the comments made by some in here from the RIT fans.

Potsdam had a bad game, no hiding that!

The first game was a better contest with RIT winning it with the power play advantage in the first two periods.
From what I saw it appeared Potsdam had nothing left for the second game.
Their short bench hurts with a few injuries and girls missing in action.
Will they get better?
In time you bet! They have a core group that could play on any D3 team.

Here is one for you:

"when you lose you say little"..."When you win you say even less".

Dude you gotta take it down a notch. Think before you speak please.

Re: RIT Women's Hockey 2009-2010

Just a reminder to RIT to remember the past. The program began in 1975-76
and it took three years to win their first game. They won one in the 1977-78
season and that was the only win that season. They languished on with many
sub 500 seasons for twenty (20) years. In their twenty first season they had double digit wins and have progressed nicely since, being one of the top teams in Div III. Before you condemn another program - think of your roots

I hope you go DI soon and get spanked everygame and dont come back with the we already play DI schools because that can hardly be considered relevant

POTSDAM LOSING BY THAT MANY GOALS IS A POTSDAM PROBLEM NOT AN RIT PROBLEM-IF YOU PLAY KEEP AWAY FOR 20 MINUTES THAT IS MORE EMBARRASSING. ITS A LOSE -LOSE SITUATION. MCDONALD NEEDS TO WORYY ABOUT RIT NOT POTSDAM!
