Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I think that taking that attitude with Ruby is just setting yourself up for disappointment. It's not his first shutout..and it's not the first time he's played well in back to back games. RIT outplayed Canisius badly on Saturday...hence why they only had a pathetic 19 shots. The night before he was not exactly spectacular. He's such a head case that as soon as he does give up that first soft goal he withers and then it's all down hill.

I think the Canisius series changed my mind on this. Typically I would agree with you, but Ruby's numbers are significantly better than they have been over the last two years. http://www.uscho.com/stats/player/mid,19947/jordan-ruby/ The sample size is small at this point, but large enough to acknowledge this trend in the right direction. I also haven't seen him self implode like in years past after things go south. In fact, it seemed to me (only via the radio broadcast) that he really came up big to allow the team a chance to salvage a point on Friday.

I am really looking forward to seeing him play again this weekend. Yes, his style of play nearly sends me into cardiac arrest with each save, but I have noticed a difference this year.

Not sure if they have played each other before but Tanev and the Nucks played Edmonton and the recently called up Steve Pinizzotto. Wife was out for the evening so I was able to just put a game on and low and behold the two Tigers were playing in a game.....

Pinner had a great game especially coming in as a fourth liner in this one. He had a fight with Derek Dorsett in the first, Scored his first NHL goal on a beauty of a play where he created the turnover in the neutral zone. Skated up the right side and snapped a wrister over Millers glove top shelf in the second, then had an Assist in the third to fill the Gordie Howe Hatty!!! Then gets Third Star of the game!! All with less then 8 minutes of ice time.

Jersey you beat me to it...! I was letting the dog out this morning at 5am, turned on the sports channel while putting another log on the fire and saw the highlights you describe above, very cool for Steve, especially 3rd Star of the Night.

I also read an article earlier this week where RIT and their Frozen Four run got another mention. The article was on Tanev's contract talks but anytime RIT Hockey gets a mention in the media it's got to be good for the program. If anybody is interested:

http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dfqcc?...ium=newsletter&utm_campaign=vancouver-canucks

Speaking of fights, just by searching the net, according to Hockeyfights.com, AHA Hockey's Rookie of the Week, Army's freshman goalie, in his only USHL fight listed by that web site, happened to pick a fight with one of RIT's current goalies. I don't think there is anything to be taken from that, hockey is what it is and I'm sure it's all water under the bridge. It just shows how small D1 hockey is. I guess that's why you see players slapping each other on the back with hearty greetings when going through the handshake line at the end of games. A lot of these guys know each other from previous leagues and I like when some game programs list those reunions. It makes buying those programs worth it.

And finally, the other night UConn and RPI played to a 1 - 1 tie in Hartford, CT. What's this have to do with RIT, well nothing really, except UConn this year has beaten Quinnipiac and Boston College and has lost to Sacred Heart. How crazy is that?! Anyway, looking forward to this weekends games against Sacred Heart, I hope the campus doesn't get wacked with all that lake effect snow that their western neighboring towns have experienced.

Nice.... John Shorthouse made mention of Tanev (18:53 of the Second) and how he was cut from 5 junior teams, but if you stay with it and be persistent and how you can achieve your dream.......Then made mention of RIT and not many NHL'ers come from there....They made mention of Pinner staying with it also, but did not say anything about RIT.... The Color man seemed to allude to persistence like Tanev after he scored and reiterated the stay with it. If you can catch the full game....Not sure they knew both were RIT guys

I disagree with you some of your points, but the main point we agree on. As I said I am not sold on him. Looking at the small sample size I think he has limited soft goals so far this year. The book on him has been him getting stung by soft goals at the worst possible times. There is great improvement so far in that category, so I say there is hope, but cautious in that regard. As I've been saying since the beginning of the season it would be a mistake to treat either guy as a number 1.

I have to say, I don't think Ruby is any more of a head case than anyone else posting on this board :-p

You know when this topic comes up, I can tell the people who understand what it takes to compete at a high level vs. the people who do not...

Maybe if you stopped posting vague admonitions like this we could all learn something.

Believe it or not I am not trying to be an ***. I think Ed did a pretty good job of trying to explain it. There are just somethings that are not words for you just have to learn. If you take literally a lot of things coaches say it's pretty funny. But there is a method to this silliness. I didn't get to play to that high of a level, High School Varsity Football & Baseball was a far as I got. I was encourage to come play football for some D-III schools, but elected to go for the education at RIT. I did get to umpire at higher levels. And it just made me realize, that it's much different on the field, or in this case on the ice then many people realize. And I understand they may think it's silly. But it takes a little more to out of everyone to be a winner at high level of sports...

Call me crazy

So it's being predicted we're being swept by Sacred Heart this weekend. Who would have ever thought someone would type that sentence?

Considering Sacred Heart was who we beat to win the AHA championship the year of our Frozen 4 run not me. They actually use to be a decent team but after that year tey continually were just down right terrible.

Yeah I saw, that, but nope RIT actually sweeps this weekend and continues to play like they are capable, starting with last weekend's efforts.
5-3 RIT Friday
3-1 RIT Saturday

That's just a Bentley fan talking crazy, I wouldn't read too much into it.

The Patriot's and Bronco's are going to drop the next 6 games and the Bruins are going to win the Stanly Cup.....see, anybody can do it! :)

According to the D&C, Cameron will be back in the lineup this weekend, and Schuler is practicing with the team but likely won't play until next weekend.

Tigers are hosting a Teddy Bear Toss tonight .... they're encouraging everyone to bring their own but there will be a limited number for sale.

In 2006-07, RIT's first year in the AHA, Sacred Heart was picked to win the league in the coaches poll, and RIT passed them in the standings and moved into first place with a sweep in Milford on Jan 12 and 13. That weekend is still one of my favorites in my 20 years of broadcasting.

They had some goaltending issues but Alex Vazzanno, who transferred in from Vermont two seasons ago, has established himself as a guy who can steal a game. Drew George is a legit threat, as is Justin Danforth who had 25 points as a rookie. Mitch Nylen was IMHO the top rookie defenseman in the league last season. He's back from injury.

It would not shock me to see SHU win at least one of these games.

Any of you (younger) alumni able to by student priced tickets with you ID still? Do they just look at your ID, or do they actually scan it?

Re: >>>>>RIT TIGERS... The Polisseum, just like the Ritter only more of us!<<<<<

I'm really glad the radio guys brought up the topic of whether or not to break up Mitchell and Garbowsky when Schuler is back next week. I was thinking it after the first Garbowsky goal. They are just too good together. Wonder where that puts Schuler with, because we can really use his goals, but he needs good players to work with.

Considering how out of this world the top line is playing you can't break them up. Wilson spoke on the radio about how great their chemistry was. Given how little scoring we're getting without #25, #7, or #9 on the ice it probably makes sense to put Schuler on the 2nd line so that we can maybe get some depth scoring..

As it stands RIT is being carried by Garbowsky's line and Ruby...which is great until one of them cools off.

Anyone know what happened to the two band members? From the other end I didn't see anything until every security, EMS, and police in the building suddenly converged there. I certainly hope they're both ok, whatever happened.
