The box was wrong. Referees were Ryan Sweeney and Jay Durfee.
Fair enough. Still strikes me as strange that they got this game's - of all games - officials wrong after what happened last night, whether because it was dumb luck or because the league had to switch around officials last minute. Do they generally announce ref assignments ahead of time or do teams/broadcasters find out when they arrive at the rink that night?

Was his hit more egregious than Norrish's? It's a little odd, because both players got game misconducts. A suspension is usually issued when the league feels the on-ice penalty was insufficient; does that mean Norrish's hit should have been a Game DQ? It really didn't look that bad in real time to me. I don't know how the refs see it, to be honest.

To be honest, I don't know. I had a pretty good view of the Norrish hit live as I was right on that blueline and I thought it was shoulder to chest, but they never showed any replays so I've withheld judgment for the time being. I'm DVR'ing the replay Monday on TW so I'll take a look at the incidents then. I completely missed the Kuqali hit - though both of my friends (who are Mercyhurst grads) who were at the game with me thought the MH player lost an edge last second and it should have only been two.
The two calls I took most issue with that IMO paints Jablonski as an incompetent turd who couldn't take the CC's complaints (anyone else notice that after the 1st period the two switched sides? Jablonski was the trailing ref nearest to the CC in the first period that called Norrish's hit, he was away from the CC for the 2nd and 3rd) was the 5 on 3 that Mercyhurst scored the GWG on and the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty that took off another two mintues at the end of the game. On the play Short got ran that resulted in the 5 on 3, Jablonski called a penalty on the Mercyhurst player (Best) who came over to retaliate for Perron-Fontaine's shot. He pointed at Perron-Fontaine, then the box, then Best, then the box, and somehow after Mercyhurst complained ended up not getting a penalty at all. The retaliation Best threw wasn't any less than what Perron-Fontaine did, Perron-Fontaine just didn't go limp and sell the bejesus out of the shot. There is no excuse for that sequence of events to end up with a 5 on 3 for Mercyhurst in a close game late. None. Jablonski would have been more honest if he was wearing green instead of stripes.
The unsportsmanlike call was the capper. First of all, I've done a little reffing (obviously not near this level) and I'm a big believer in misconducts over minor penalties for mouthing off. But, philosophies aside, when a player doesn't visibly show you up to the crowd, what he said had better be suspension worthy to stop the game to give a penalty. If there's no penalty given, no one outside the player, ref, and maybe a couple of other players would know that anything was even said. That was plain and simple Jablonski's ego jumping up and ruining the ending to the game.
I thought they missed a couple of other calls for sure, but that's going to happen in any game. I thought Foote actually gave the Tigers a couple of make up calls (particularly after the first major penalty - one that Foote had the better angle/view of and didn't make a call) that were pretty ticky-tacky, but so was the initial penalty to Kearns that resulted in the late 5 on 3 for MH and led to our goalie getting bulldozed. It certainly seemed like they missed a couple of blatant penalties (one a board, not sure what happened to Valenuzela when he stayed down in that period near the crew), and there probably should have been a MH penalty instants before Brown was called for a high-stick as a hook caused the turnover that caused Brown to commit a penalty. But the infuriating ones were the two above. And I retain the right to be infuriated by the major calls when I see them again on Monday.

Yeah, about that. Has anyone come up with an explanation yet for how we continue to dominate in time of possession, shot attempts, and shots on goal, but continue to lose games?
I don't think Short tracked the puck particularly well on Friday, which isn't altogether surprising considering he'd been out for awhile. It's good he got in a couple games to shake off the rust, but the numbers from the weekend certainly were ugly. However, in terms of territorial play, it doesn't mean squat when you have defensive breakdowns when you do give the puck up and give high-quality scoring chances - in particular on Friday on the 1st goal. If the shots you're giving up are of that quality, the other team's only gonna need 15-20 shots to score 3 or 4 times. Certainly not having Norrish essentially both nights and needing to change around the top 4 could have something to do with those breakdowns this weekend, but I thought they were similarly bad in their own end in the 4-4 tie to Niagara when Amato was between the pipes. He actually made a number of saves on breakdowns and odd man rushes in that game where the score could have ended up a lot worse, all things considered.
