RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

My error. Sorry. 0-0 is correct.

1-0 Ohio State. They scored with 14 seconds left in the period. RIT tried to get a line change in right before the goal and they were denied by the ref.

Observations: RIT's 4 th line is the best of the night tonight. They are cycling well and have had 3 or 4 chances. The other lines are still playing individually. Too many shot attempts from brutal angles or behind the net.

The score could be higher but OSU is missing the net any time they get in tight. Most of their shots are from outside.

Great game still.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Glad I finally made it to a game tonight. It's been a busy fall and I have been dying for some live hockey. Good effort from both teams, Lindenwood just fell apart at the end.

Anyone else find the officiating to be a little wonky?

Melissa Bromley went down with what looked like a knee injury in the first. She wouldn't leave the arena but looked like she was in a fair amount of pain watching from the stands. Hopefully she won't be out too long.

The outcome was as expected and the score was indicative of the play. It was a close score for the first 2 periods and it had that feel of a game that RIT might lose, especially after the Lions scored to make it 2-1. RIT answered nicely to put the game out of reach.

Impressive shooting display by Brown. She had the hat-trick on her stick twice in the third. She ripped one of the crossbar and the Lions keeper stopped her on another.

Still too much individual play with this team. They are missing great scoring opportunities by shooting first and ignoring open passing opportunities.

Congrats to Jess Paton for notching her first NCAA goal on a nice cross body shot on a 1 on 1. She has been one of RITs best players over the past 3 games and is being rewarded with extra ice time.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

1-1 Final. Tigers played better in the third and were able to get the equalizer on a PP. It appears as if Lindenwood is a well coached team as they move the puck well and play their own zone well. Like most D1 teams, they appear to lack the pure goal scorer or two and they are not alone there.

This game was pretty sloppy and there were way too many penalties taken by both sides. RIT is getting eaten up against the better teams when shorthanded and they are finding themselves in the box 6-7 times per game. They are 4th in the nation in PIM and 25th in PK. Those two stats do not go well together. On a positive note, their PP is holding it's own and is creating a fair amount of chances each time out, converting 18% of the time to stand 14th in the nation.

Although they held a wide margin advantage in the shot department this weekend, many of their shots were either from outside or were right into the keepers bread basket. They are still missing the playmaking in the offensive zone. RIT had a handful of 2 on 1's but all but 2 of them resulted in easy saves for the keeper on no-pass shots. The 2 good chances that the Tigers had on 2 on 1's were the result of a pass.

Congrats to the 2011-2012 RIT team members that received their DIII Championship rings in a ceremony before they took o the ice. That is a huge thrill for all of the players and like the memories, they will have that momento with them forever.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Congrats to F Celeste Brown and G Ali Binnington for receiving the CHA's Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week honours for their performances in the weekend series against Lindenwood. Also congrats to F Jess Paton for making the Honour Roll for her first collegiate goal which was also game winner on Saturday. Enjoy the holidays girls and best wishes to all.

They are 4th in the nation in PIM and 25th in PK.

This stat does not surprise me at all. They were first (or at least close) to most PIM's for the last couple years. I see no reason that the style of play changes this quickly. We just had such a dominant presence in D III we could get away with that. I think we will learn how to play smarter in the next few years. But at the moment we are still adjusting to the speed and skill differential to address such issues.

Excuse me, but did we just beat a team that swept Mercyhurst a month ago?

Ughhhh....what a classless remark!! While congratulations on a win are in order, tooting your own horn is really unattractive! Looks like your goalie won the game for you. Now let's see how Rit does today. Good luck to both teams.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Well done to all the Tigers on their hard fought win yesterday. In defence of Lt. (not that he needs to be defended), RIT has faired well in the first games of weekend series with higher ranked teams but have come up empty and then faded poorly in the second match. It is nice to have some results from their strong play against the better teams. Good Luck in the rematch.

Also, to remain consistent, congratulations to Freshman F Katie Hubert on being named CHA Rookie of the month for December.

Looks like ... lather, rinse, repeat. ;)

Congrats to the Tigers. While it is largely due to games in hand, it sure is nice to see RIT toward the upper end of the standings. Great way to start off 2013 ... let's hope the momentum can carry forward for a while.

Looks like Binnington stood on her head again. If she can keep that up, that would be great for rit.

No matter how you look at it, RIT is doing great in Div 1! The first NCAA women's game that I saw was RPI at RIT, back when they were both among the top Div 3 teams. I would hope that they are on each others schedules on a regular basis going forward.

A two game sweep of a team the quality of Robert Morris is no small feat. RIT is a solid all around team; and some hot goaltending doesn't hurt! Congrats RIT on a great weekend.

Man these Tigers are frustrating to watch. After completely controlling the first period with a 2-0 lead, the Tigers slowly but definitively let Colgate back into the game and surrendered a 3-2 OT loss.

Disappointing loss.

From the stats, it looks like we dominated and could have won, or at least tied. The GWG was unassisted; I assume a miscue by the defense?

In fairness to the Tigers, it could have just been Colgate realizing at the first intermission that they'd have to play up to their skill level and not down to RIT's.
