RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

The Brown radio announcers on America One seem awfully impressed by RIT and their ability to keep skating and cause havoc on offense and defense. RIT up 1-0 about 10 minutes in.

RIT was the better team tonight. They were constantly on Brown and gave them no space. Brown looked disorganized and struggled at times with the fundamentals. Full marks for the Tigers with the win. All 4 lines played hard and Binner was her usual solid self, making a couple of great saves in the third to secure the shutout. Yoko had a school commitment but will play tomorrow.

Pretty low turnout. There were more RIT fans then Brown fans, thanks in part to a local Alumni event.

You are right - looks like Yoko is on the first line tonight. Laura appears to be starting.

Sometimes you get to escape a game with a win and by all accounts you shouldn't. Today's 2-1 win over Brown is one of those days.

Except for the third period, RIT was out of sync, but thanks to some steady goaltending from Chamberlain and some wet ice to start the third, we were able to escape with that win.

Chamberlain looked like the Chamberlsin of old and Zach changed direction on some wet ice to stuff home the winner with a shorthanded goal early in the third.

Sweeping Brown is great and should result in a bit more respect as we finish the first third of the season.

Off to Syracuse Tuesday.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Just noticed on the box score that the attendance was listed as 128. They must have counted the Brown and Army men's teams that were warming up in the bleachers in preparation for their 7:00 tilt in that total. At the end of the second period, I counted 16 Brown spectators and would guess approx 60 RIT spectators in the stands (differentiating by the side of the bleachers they were on). Pretty anemic attendance.

Thank you RIT for the support you show your teams at Ritter Arena. It is wonderful to see.

I was surprised to see that Syracuse's rink only holds 350! RIT is the biggest arena in the CHA (with Mercyhurst second at 1500)...Altough next year Penn State will take the lead.

RIT loses 2-1 to Syracuse in OT

I wish I could say that this game was a heartbreaker, a tough one to lose etc, but that would be giving the Tigers too much credit. Truth is (as I see it), they are in an offensive funk right now. They were never really in this game, offensively. On the defensive side, they are doing great. Defense is limiting scoring chances to the outside and goaltending has been great. This was a game that could easily have been won as Syracuse looked out of sync as well.

Tonight, RIT only managed 19 shots, and the majority of those were from outside as well. There is no unity in the offensive zone from the top lines. No passing, no playmaking. They work their butts off and have had success as a result of that, but there is no cohesiveness. Their "hard work chances" are usually the result of an individual effort or two and then a low percentage shot. I don't know if it is panic or lack of confidence, but it is resulting in ugly hockey.

The first power-play unit has shown that they can get the puck into the offensive zone easily enough and can control the play but at the end of the day they are not generating consistent quality scoring chances. The second unit struggles maintaining possession and breaking out and their production has dropped off as a result.

I don't know but this might be the type of hockey they are destined to play. Individually, they do have a lot of muckers and not alot of skill players. Yoko is undoubtedly their best playmaker and she is playing D. Maybe Yoko or Grigg need to move back up to forward to create some more plays.

Just my opinion. Enjoy the weekend off girls and congrats on getting through the first Q of schoo. Back to classes for Term 2 on Monday and then off to North Dakota.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Maybe they were just tired - Brown worked them hard this weekend, while Syracuse was off since the last game against RIT (and Syracuse didn't look too good either).

I think that the second penalty in the last few minutes (giving Syracuse the 5-on-3 before they pulled their goaltender) was a really weak call, and most times not a penalty, so I am not sure why it was called. If a team doesn't score 6-on-3, then something is really wrong. As soon as we got the second penatly call I got super worried.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Congrats to RIT on their great effort tonight against North Dakota. It was an enjoyable game to watch. Here are a few observations...

- The UND game feed is fantastic. Multiple camera angles and instant replays. Had to turn the radio broadcast on as I wasn't getting the TV audio through my feed. Is that normal or did I do something wrong? The radio guys were very good and were singing RIT's praises from the middle of the first period on. At one point one of them said that RIT could compete with every team in the WCHA. Pretty nice compliment to the team.
- RIT started sluggishly and were completely outplayed for the first 10 minutes, being outshot 9-2. By the end of the period the shots were 10-9 for ND but I must say that I think the RIT shot button was stuck as I didn't recall seing 7 shots in the last half of the period.
- The Lam, Lam, Korv trio is pretty fun to watch. They dominated every power play and converted on two of them. Do not take penalties against this group as they will destroy you. Beyond that combo, ND is average in depth, or at least they were tonight.
- Based on MLams 2G and 1A tonight, she will probaly be named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week award for the third week in a row. If that occurs, seems a bit odd as her 2 goals were scored with her playing F on the PP.
- Chamberlain played great tonight, including a great save on a JLam breakaway in the second.
- Coach McDonald must have been reading my earlier post as both Yoko and Grigg returned to forward. There were three new sets of lines and RIT seemed to have more balance as a result.
- RIT pulled Chamberlain with about 1:30 remainind and the 3rd line (Zach, Payerl and Hubert) had two great chances. ND goalie robbed Hubert from in tight and then a deflection off of Zach's skate hit the post.

All and all, great effort. I think the focus needs to shift now from not being content just competing with the best. They need to ain at beating the best. Big step but results like this make it seem like it is within their grasp.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Thanks for the recap! Sounds like the girls are doing well adjusting to the new level of play.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Any predictions on game 2 tonight? Based on the UND Coach's presser yesterday,he was none to happy with his team's performance. I expect them to come out guns a blazin' tonight. RIT needs a top notch performance from Binner tonight, which shouldn't be a problem as she has been great all year.

Yikes 4-1 after 1. Should be 5-1 but goal called back (questionably). Binnington has been great but floodgates opened late in the period. Shots are something like 25-4.

Those guns are definitely a blazin'.

Re: RIT Tigers 2012-2013 season

Well, at least we've established that teams need to bring their "A" game when playing the Tigers.
