If everything works out as planned.......

Providence
16 RIT vs. 1 Quinnipiac
9 Yale vs. 8 St. Cloud State

Additionally, our two Atlantic Hockey buddies AIC and RMU could give us their playbooks on how to beat Quinnipiac. :)

Actually, I'd have a hard time not rooting for any AHA team playing a #1 seed in the NCAA's and I'm sure Quinnipiac will respect any of the AHA teams should they meet.

No doubt. I got to watch Q last Friday and they are the real deal. They play their system extremely well. While there are no superstars on that team the whole teams plays hard and tough, and they are getting very solid goaltending.

The AIC win was a fluke. Play that game again and Quinnipiac would slaughter them. RMU was also another blip in the radar.

I still have my fingers crossed for two AHA teams making the tourney this year.

Unless the "second" (auto-bid) team is RIT, I couldn't care less.

Not to mention Niagara, Air Force (still have yet to score a goal on them in Blue Cross Arena), and Mercyhurst.
Oddly enough, RIT has only ever beaten one of those three teams at the BCA (0-1 v. MU; 0-3 v. AFA; 1-0 v. NU). Odds are if they do manage to win their way back to the big house this season, they'll likely be playing NU in the semis. Here's to staying undefeated versus the Purple Eagles at the Tigers' home-away-from-home! Wouldn't that be a fine time to get back over the hump?

Me too.

Additionally, I would rather one team (preferably RIT, but realistically Niagara) get into the NCAA's and make some noise as opposed to two teams getting in and being one and done.

Really? I feel like two AHA teams is a step forward for our conference, regardless of who goes. If they manage to do well while there, even better.

Me too.

No, he claimed the trustees had to browbeat (or otherwise forcefully convince) Simone to accept D-I hockey, and then asked if I had evidence to the contrary. How I'm supposed to produce evidence that the Board did not perform this action is beyond me. Ought I attempt to account for each of their locations and each telephone conversation each one had with the President for the entire (few months? year?) before the announcement?

Anyway, I certainly did not mean for this to devolve into name-calling and wild accusations. My original point is that we must remember it was not Bill Destler who brought D-I hockey to RIT. Whatever Al Simone thought of D-I sports, it was on his watch that the move happened, and I don't see any reason he shouldn't get credit for getting the ball rolling in a successful way.

Powers &8^]

Let's be clear...Al Simone did not do 1 **** thing that could be remotely construed as "getting the ball rolling". He merely stood aside and shut his mouth and let others push the initiative through to the finish line because he knew very well that if he attempted to stand in the way he would have gotten steam rolled by the board and the more vocal supporters of DI hockey. He doesn't deserve any special recognition for that.
While it is true the events happened while he occupied the office of President of the school, to suggest he somehow played a crucial role in them occurring is blatantly false. Standing by and doing nothing to blatantly oppose something should not earn one credit for the events actually happening.

For me winning in the tourney is the only way to gain real respect. More winning by the single AHA rep during the tourney is for me a real step forward, not getting two teams in. Two teams is a plus, but like I said I would prefer one and have them win over two and lose.

I agree that 2 teams in is a step forward. Everyone considered the AHA a 1 bid league. If they can get an at-large, I think it's quite an accomplishment. And then the NCAA will change the rules so it will be harder for them to get another one.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

True. A lot of people on the USCHO boards hate that Niagara are as high as they are in PWR. I can see them easily making a tweak in the formula between seasons.

As long as it's not Air Force, it's a possibility! :D

What rank do you have to be in the RPI to get an at-large bid?

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

What rank do you have to be in the RPI to get an at-large bid?

Here's the whole breakdown here:

http://www.uscho.com/faq/pairwise-rankings-explanation/

And here are the PairWise Rankings:

http://www.uscho.com/rankings/pairwise-rankings/d-i-men/

TL;DR: After the five autobids are selected, the 11 at-large bids are determined by a process comparing teams in various criteria. The process is not released publicly, but a statistical model developed by USCHO in the 1990s, known as the PairWise Rankings, mimics that process. A team usually needs to be in the top 16 to make it, but any conference champion not in the top 16 reduces that number. The RPI is one of the components, but not the only one.

So basically... Niagara can finish say 9th in PWR, lose in the tournament, and the NCAA can just refuse to let them in as well?

And it's exactly this sort of stuff for which I'm asking for some sort of concrete evidence. Until I see something, it's just so much hot air.

Well, yes, but only by going against their own published selection criteria. (The criteria are known; what is not known 100% are the relative weights of those criteria... but the PWR has never been wrong in predicting the tournament teams (seeding, yes, but not the field).)

This sort of private conversation is never going to be made public. I've been shared things in confidence that I can't share here. It's not so much hot air; it's just not shared with you.
