>>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

DeMike had better teams in front of him with those stats - so you could argue his numbers would have been worse with the current team.

I admit I was nervious when DeMike started getting playing time. But he did what he had to do to improve and became a very good goalie.

I think Ruby given the chance to play regularly will also improve and become a very good goalie. We're already seeing signs of improvement with his games against UCONN. The point I was trying to make was that I just don't think it's time to be giving up on Ruby or Watson for that matter. We've seen how DeMike was able to improve from similar stats, and I think Ruby can do the same. It's way off base to say things like "I don't think either of these goalies are what we need to be competitive in D1"

Your naivete is pretty humorous. When I come up for the next game at BCA (I imagine that is the next time I will see an RIT game in person), you get me time with any of the coaching staff and/or Athletic department (not a flunky) and I will ask. Not that I would expect an honest answer but I too would be curious to see the reaction.

Your arrogance is pretty humorous. You are accusing RIT of violating NCAA rules without any proof.

I've watched as this was suggested to people in the athletic department and with the program. I'd sell tickets to watch you accuse them of breaking the rules.

Some people blame the goalie when a goal is scored, regardless of the situation on the ice. These people are wrong.

In 'singles' hockey, they would be 'right' but alas, you are correct :D:

It is still a team sport and most of the time, the other 5 players have much to do with goals against as the goalie does.

Let me settle this. MattS is arrogant AND Ed is Naive! ;)

I do not believe that RIT is violating any NCAA rules, but I also believe that hockey players** get very good treatment in financial aid packages.

**As do lots of other "types" of students such as lacrosse players, orchestra members, female engineers, females of any sort, under-represented ethnic groups, international students, city of Rochester students, etc., etc. The key is that the special treatment can't be any more special than other desired groups of students and it can not be contingent on hockey performance (i.e., it has to be need-based and academic-merit-based just like everyone else on campus). So really, I think RIT is out to recruit the "poor", "smart" hockey players because they can be cost competitive with schools offering athletic scholarships for those players (just like they can for a young lady with a 4.0 in high school that wants to study engineering or computer science). And at RIT they keep their aid package even if they don't play hockey. That can be very attractive to someone looking for an education.

They've also had a fair number of well off players who could afford to choose RIT over a cheaper deal at another school. The academics and the fan support are very big factors in getting players to spend more money to go there.

Fair enough. :)

Bingo.

They're tied for 11th - didn't fall that much.

Good point ... I often fail to consider that end of the spectrum!!

Well said. This is more along the lines of what I meant. I probably didn't get my point across in the best way.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I'm hoping they win out the rest of the season and lose at BCA. That way two AHA teams get an NCAA birth.. but I'm not sure that would be the case any more.

They're tied for 11th - didn't fall that much.

At this point, I'd rather Niagara win out unless they play teams below us.

Canisius' win last night was far worse for RIT than a Niagara win would have been. We'll never catch Niagara, but Canisius is a team we're right in the trenches in. Them getting an improbable 2 points last night hurts.

Canisius will lose their next game and the Tigers will take both this weekend, it makes for a great end of the season run.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2012-13: Clawing our way up the standings in the 2nd half

I just got back inside from making a first pass at snowblowing my driveway. Yes I will be doing it again tomorrow. I have a fairly straight blacktop driveway. The question I have is why when I go back and forth, up and down the driveway with my snowblower, carefully lining up my wheel tracks with the previous pass, do I imagine that I am driving a Zamboni?

The question is....do you do it in an elongated figure eight? If so, then your driving a Zamboni.

I refuse to go out until this freakish storm is over, sometime tomorrow.

Nice stops by Ruby so far.

Agreed Ruby playing well....like we all agree the first goal will be important.

My knucklehead neighbor is out giving his driveway a second cleaning, I can hear his snowblower. Like you I'm now waiting for this to be over before heading out again.

This five minute penalty will set the direction for the rest of the game...

Well, we were thoroughly dominated in the 2nd, however the good news is now we can go out and focus on one thing and one thing only... win the 3rd period. Do that and we have a good chance to win this game.
