Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

How does that hurt our chances?

And to be honest I do not want to join another conference until our new Arena is built. We need to strengthen our program or we will drowned out by the ECAC teams. We also would have a much harder time getting into the NCAAs.

The going assumption has thus far been that RPI was the #1 target for the final spot, which would open up a spot in the ECAC that the Tigers could fill.

It hurts our chances because we were hoping a team from the ECAC would jump over to HEA. If Uconn fills that spot we may not get into the ECAC for a long long time.

I don't the new arena should be much of a factor, since better players are going to want to play in a better league. In fact I bet joining the ECAC would accelerate the building of the arena.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

Yeah it doesn't look right now, but hopefully the AHA will invite UAH into the conference though I could see the eastern schools *****ing about having possibly to go to Alabama and Colorado in the same year.

Honestly... I really don't want UAH in the AHA. All it will do is require us to play 2-3 more games / season against a team who will not improve our PWR ranking.

Well, UCONN doesn't do that either. At least UAH would be a nice feel good story for everyone. And UAH used to be a very strong program, whose to say they won't return to form some day?

Obviously moving to ECAC is the best option, but not one that is open right now. The arena will help recruitment, for sure.

Totally agree. I think given time (3-4 years, maybe less) UAH would be an asset to AHA. They would be much better than some of the other bottom feeders that are historically/currently in the AHA. I looking at you...UCONN and AIC.....

Are you calling Uconn a bottom feeder? Last year they put up a really good fight in the AHA semifinals against us, and if not for Madoloras efforts, probably could have beaten us. This bottom feeder team also took Air Force to three games this year in Co Springs, kept every game close with Air Force, and did something RIT has yet to do against Air Force in the playoffs: score a goal.

Sure am. They are historically a bottom feeder. That's why I wrote historically/currently. Nothing like a powerhouse team that hasn't had a winning season in DI since 99-00. Or maybe it was that smokin 7-27-3 sason of three years ago.

All true, but I think the point was that in the last two seasons since then, this is a drastically improved UConn team that has been a real factor in the AHA standings for the better part of both seasons. A late season slide dropped them to the 8th seed in 2012, but they were up there close to HC and Bentley earlier in the season. Not to mention that with the parity in AHA in 2012, 8th place was not all that far from 3rd. The Huskies were right in there for sure.

The AHA doesn't need "feel good stories". They need teams that will be an asset to the conference competitively and financially, now and in the future.

And UAH used to be a very strong program,
OK, they were good by CHA standards, but "very strong" may be an exaggeration, at least on a national scale.

But what about road trips to Alabama (and golfing!) in the dead of winter? That's a big plus right there.

I live in Arizona... we have plenty of golf and the only road trips I make are to CO Springs. :|

UAH has a much more impressive NCAA tournament resume than almost everyone in the AHA, including UCONN.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

UAH suffers greatly from not being in a conference. Put them in a league where they have a chance for the NCAA bid and they will be respectable in a short period of time. It would be nice, but I don't see it happening in the AHA because I don't think that the Eastern teams will want another trip out West. It would push the balance of power to 7-5 on the Western side.

From an NCAA hockey preservation of teams standpoint, I want to see UAH in the AHA. From an RITcentric perspective, I would rather the 2 extra non-league games to play better teams.

Unless... They moved the Eastern-most Western pod team to the East. Hmmmm. That would be RIT. That would be awesome, and only because it would drive the New Englanders absolutely nuts having go to "the middle of nowhere" to play RIT. hehe.

Thanks for rubbing that in :)
Most of my relatives live in Arizona. I'm dying to move closer to them, but can't stand that kind of heat in the summer. That, and the wife wants nothing to do with any area where there might be tarantulas, scorpions, or large poisonous snakes. :(

I think UAH will (eventually) bring up the AHA's OOC percentages. That's a plus in my book.

The going assumption has thus far been that RPI was the #1 target for the final spot, which would open up a spot in the ECAC that the Tigers could fill.

During the AHA final weekend, I heard more and more suggestions from people in the know that Hockey East last spot was really UCONNs if they put the money into it. Given some of the new blood over there, it seems very likley that UCONN will get the last spot and the ECAC will remain unchange. If that does indeed happen you can see a spot open for UAH to jump to. At that point I believe the focus will shift west of the AHA and what remains of the CCHA. Now I don't know all that goes on behind the scenes, and some stuff I do know I would not share here. What I do want to say is I am very concern that I have not heard anything at all about RIT looking West.

I think if teams like Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Niagara, and RIT could join some of the left overs from the CCHA and form a much better league than the AHA. I think the bonus is that RIT would compete right away in that league too, where if they join the ECAC they may have a tough couple of years to build up. And I do think there would be plenty of potential for growth in that new league that could be formed.

That being said I really think it would be a disservice to college hockey if Hockey East drags this out much longer. I think this Penn St thing will lead to better leagues and a better college hockey, but we need to hit the ground running...

There aren't any remains of the CCHA (as of 2013-14, at least). They've all found a home in the new WCHA. Case closed... for now.

Or how about Mercyhurst, Robert Morris, Niagara, RIT and some combination of Canisius,Syracuse(they've been looking to add), Bowling Green(I don't think they'd want to leave the others though). Can't think of any others really unless someone added.

Yes, and you can call it College Hockey America.
