Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

I remember hearing this rationalization about the Tigers' gradual fall-off in results back at the end of the D-III days. "...other teams stepping up their game..." is NOT an excuse for a program the quality of RIT's. If you're at or near the top and your opponents begin stepping up, it's up to you to find a way to step up your game as well. If you're not moving forward, you're standing still. If you're standing stil while those around you are moving forward, you're actually moving backwards.

From who? The ECAC West did get a heck of a lot better and is still one of the best conferences in D-III. However I don't remember anyone saying the league was the cause, many blamed a bad group or two that clearly caused problems. Would like to forget about the last D-III teams, the Seniors on that years team really let down RIT...

I can't remember specifically who. I just remember making the argument that between the nearly undefeated season and the last D-III year, the Tigers' regular season and post-season results got a notch worse each season. The response from a few on here was about how much the up-and-coming ECAC-W teams like Manhattanville and Hobart had stepped up their recruiting. My response then (as it is now) was that that isn't an excuse. If there hadn't been a multi-year trend of declining results, I would have dismissed that horrible finish to 2005 as a mental let down. But it was merely a continuation of what had already been happening for a few sesons prior.
Coincidentally, the Lady Tigers' awesome victory last weekend for the NC on Ritter ice and the highlights of the celebration I saw on the news saddenned me as it pointed out how I will never get to experience such a moment with the men's team on Ritter (or Polisseni for that matter) ice. I was too young to be around for the NC's in the 80's (not that those were at home, but still...). They came close against UWSP and Plattsburgh in NC games at Ritter, but no cigar. Obviously, there won't be any D-I NC's played here. The closest we'll come is the AHA's at BCA. It was a shame that that 04-05 team collapsed. They gave me the impression, especially after they're weekend out at St. Norbert's, that they were going to be a serious contender. As it was for the Women in 2012, it would have been a much more memorable exit from D-III to compete for (and hopefully win) a championship than to blow a 2 goal lead on 4 minutes of power play with just over 4 minutes left leading to the OT loss to the Tigers' arch-nemesis. Oh well. It is what it is. At least we've got the 2010 Albany experience (and potentially others in the future) to enjoy and remember for years to come. But National Championships? That's a discussion for generations to come as it isn't a realistic goal anytime soon.

I don't necessarily disagree, but will point out that it was a mere two seasons ago that we came one win away from being in the national championship. Do I think we're realistically contending for it anytime soon? No. But we typically have the raw talent to steal games off anyone, and in a best of 1 series that is all you need.

A move away from the AHA could only help this, and if RIT ever moves up to division 2 across the board, I think we'd quickly become a serious national contender with scholarships.

Madolora is in net tonight. You can listen to the game via the ECHL or Ontario Reign website. Alternatively, you can purchase the B2 stream.

Madolora down 3-1 to Burt's reign midway through the 3rd.

Two of the Reign's goals have been on breakaways, including a shorthanded breakaway. The Thunder certainly aren't doing Shane any favors in his first start. He's sounded sharp otherwise, though..

Listening to the Stockton - Ontario game....Burt scores on Shane...now 4-1. Stockton also has a Holy Cross Player...Matt Clune.

Game Sheet: Ontario 4 Stockton 1

Tough game for Shane but good one for Cameron (1 G, +2), best of luck to both of you!

As the Stockton coach said after the game, Shane played great but got completely left out to dry by his defense on all 4 goals. It's pretty telling when you let that many uncontested breakaways (including when you are on the PP) happen. I'm sure Shane will get more starts before the ECHL playoffs begin.

Also a great game for Burt!

As the Stockton coach said after the game...

For those of you who have been following RIT hockey since the 90's (or earlier), the Stockton coach is Matt Thomas. Looks like he's done quite a bit of coaching since his RIT days.

At senior night I remember a good amount of the seniors had already completed their coursework.

My understanding is there are rules that allow them to play out the year. I honestly have no idea how they work...

You're allowed to compete for 60 days after graduation. From the NCAA D-I manual:

14.1.9.3 NCAA Championship Following Last Term of Eligibility. A student-athlete who is eligible during the term in which degree work is completed (or is eligible as a graduate, per Bylaw 14.1.9) remains eligible for any NCAA championship for any postseason licensed bowl game or National Invitation Tournament that begins within 60 days after the end of the term in which the student completes the requirements for the degree (or graduate eligibility).

OMG... That actually makes sense... Lord you can now take me I have seen everything including the NCAA make a rule that makes sense...

I feel bad for Air Force... that botched call pretty much handed BC a win in a game that was close to the end.

But on a better note... we won't be seeing Kirby on their blue line anymore.

That was a bad call at a critical time. AF was starting to get some pressure on BC.

Good to see Atlantic Hockey play it close in the tourney.

Playing close has not been a problem for the most part in the NCAA tournament. It's WINNING that is the problem. It would be nice if the AHA reps did that more often.
