Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

Shane has got to make that save, big blow.......

Hey could RIT really want to lose this game?? I know that sound odd but if things hold they would play Sacred Heart who the killed in Conn. Then would get Bentley in the quarters. In contrast, Mercyhurst would finish 3rd and assuming no upset they would play Robert Morris in the quarters... Yikes...

Not at all. No way. The week off is valuable - even outside the obvious injuries, guys are likely nursing various dings at this point of the season. Also, RoMo is lurking in 7th (and behind tonight). The 3rd seed will likely get the loser of the Bentley-HC game.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

I don't care how banged up they are, if they can not beat Sacred Fart they do not deserve to be in the playoffs...

As it standing right now, RIT would go to Holy Cross I team they have owned this year and past in the playoffs and regular reason. Assuming no upsets in the quarters, Niagara's gift for winning this game could be getting Robert Morris in the Quarters...

Question could very well be who would you rather play. Holy Cross at their place (granted you have sacred heart at home) but is that better than playing Robert Morris at home?? Interesting to ponder...

Question would be the mental make up of the team if they make the quarters? Odds are its going to be mostly West Pod teams, probably at least three of them and RIT has not played well this year against their own pod. Most dissapointing stat of the year...

Barring upsets in the first round, RIT will play Bentley at home in the quarters. An upset would be relatively bad (unless it happens to be Army beating RoMo) as it would mean Robert Morris would be the team coming to the Ritter.

Good effort, but frustrating game. Big spread in shots but it felt like NU had more grade A chances than the Tigers. They also looked to be a step faster for most of the game. Big question is what was the deal with all the falling down. I don't think I've ever seen so many lost edges. Even the penalty Burt drew in the third. From the TV angle it looked more like he lost an edge and went down on his own rather than a trip. He's hoping they can come out of the week off like they did after the holidays.

BTW, will students be in town in two weeks (3/9-10)?

The 9th and 10th are at the tail end of break, so I assume there will be at least a portion of the student body returned.

I don't know if anyone else saw, but the 2nd Niagara goal happened because Noyes put absolutely no effort into getting to that puck before the Niagara player. He didn't realize he should probably do something until after the puck was in the net...

Turns out the sky isn't falling, and RIT grabs a 1st round bye.

Had Mads not let in a Bryzgalov-esque softy shorthander we likely win the game by at least a goal. The shorty really killed the energy.

Hard to complain with a 3rd seed and a week off though.

Classes start back up on the 12th so it's hard to say.

He was playing the angle. That's simply a shot that should be stopped at this level (and is 99 times out of 100 by Madolora).

I'm coming back early for it, and I'm fairly sure we can expect a sellout.

And then have to go on the road for the quarters? No, we definitely wanted to play for the tie. We need that bye, especially with finals this week and break next, and it guarantees no away games.

Totally agree with this. He made absolutely zero effort to get back and help out. He kind of half-*** stuck his stick towards the Niagara player. In my mind that is the kind of play that earns him working the door to the bench for the rest of the period. Simply can't have that kind of play in a game like that.

Blaming it on Noyes ignores the fact that Madolora has no excuse not to make that save on a lazy shot from the circle. The guy wasn't really going for a goal, it surprised even him. It's easy to say bench Noyes, but in reality he has taken up Saracino's role of offensive D-Man and he's been playing out of his mind of late, he's been one of our best players by far. One mental mistake doesn't warrant a benching, especially given all the boneheaded turnovers by the offense all game.

Madolora can't make every save he should and he can take some of the blame. I wouldn't call it a lazy shot, and sure the Niagara player didn't expect to score as the was a savable shot.

There is a difference between a mental mistake and laziness. Noyes was lazy. It wasn't a mistake. To be fair I can't remember if Noyes was on the ice for a long period of time so he could have been gassed and might not have been able to get there, but he simply gave up on the play completely. He stopped skating and was coasting. Lack of effort is something I can't stand.

I agree that Madolora had no reason he shouldn't stop that shot. I also agree that Noyes has been essential this year without Saracino, which is maybe why his total lack of effort into getting to that puck/in front of the Niagara player got me so outraged. That happened literally right in front of me and it looked like Noyes didn't really care about what was going on. (Now of course he did care but that was my interpretation of his facial expression and actions)

Thankfully, the bye is secured. That is the first obstacle. The quarterfinals won't be easy though. If the seedings hold up, Bentley will come to town, and those games were nip and tuck (2-0 and 2-1). If Army or Sacred Heart were to somehow pull off an upset, that bring in Robert Morris (if they get past AIC) - a team that RIT went 0-1-2 against.

Hopefully, the bye will let the team refocus and make a championship run. We know the potential is there. They just have to do it.

There was no way he could have gotten to that puck before the Niagara guy. Noyes had two choices: risk taking a penalty, negating the RIT power play, or trust that Madolora would make the save. Madolora had an unobstructed view of the shot and probably should have made that save.

For whatever reason Noyes did not give the play enough urgency and that alone was enough to throw Madelora off. It was fair to expect Noyes to make more of a play. I imagine he was out of gas or injured, but he definitely looked off the normal pace at that moment.

Re: >> RIT Tigers 2011-12 Part II: Making Some Noise at the House that Roars <<

my two cents on the noyes play, as seen from the tv feed...

it looked to me (and the commentators) like the puck took a near-perfect bounce for the niagara skater. there was not much noyes could have done about it, and it seemed like he just skated into a defensive position, forcing the purple skater wide. his only chance was a dump shot, and he happened to place it perfectly and shane happened to blow it.

both shane and noonan had some fantastic saves last night, it seemed like that game could easily have been 5-5 instead of 2-2.

I think you should give Mads more credit than that, I don't think he gets thrown that easily

I think we should give the whole team some credit, the seniors in particular, for coming back to get the tie in the third period. The game had all the looks of another loss after the second period. Seems odd to celebrate a tie and be so happy about it, but that's what we needed to get and we did. That tying goal by Haltigin with the assist from Burt was super sweet! We need to bottle that play and pull it out more than just a few times in future games.

Hopefully this game will be a springboard for this team to take off from. I'm sure the week off will do them some good too. Hopefully we get Mitchell back in two weeks as well.
