I'm dissiapointed because RIT is not living up to expectations, not because the other teams are getting votes when they rightfully deserve them. I hold the tigers to high standards, just like we all should, and they have been letting us down this season. No they're not doing awful, but AHA has grown stronger this year and it seems the tigers are being left behind. This is not what I expect from a program that's looking to grow.
Sure, I can understand that to a point. But we all knew to expect scoring to drop this year with the loss of Brenner and Favot. As great as Garbowsky and McGowan are, they need a year or two before they truly become an unstoppable force. Perhaps we didn't expect it to drop this much, but we've also had injuries from Saracino (a key offensive presence from the blue line), Mitchell, and Potts who was looking to having a breakout year. Stuart Brownell has also been out all year, so who knows what he can bring.
Defensively we are top 10 in the country and even though Madolora isn't statistically as dominating as last year, he's still right up there in all of the overall D1 stats.
Our problem is just consistency and, I think, mental toughness. It's a Tiger tradition to play up to good teams and play down to bad teams, and that doesn't seem to change.
College hockey is always a roller coaster with players coming and going every year, so it's impossible to expect that we'd win every regular season title forever. Next year every team is going to change again. Niagara caught fire behind a ridiculously good Noonan. Well, Noonan won't be around next year. That's just how it goes.
It says a lot about our pedigree though that a 3rd seed, first round bye is disappointing. Teams like AIC are thrilled to finish 9th!
