>>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Most likely in the next year or two. IMO, the school is waiting to see what happens with Hockey Easy. If HEA takes RPI or any other school from the ECAC then RIT will apply to the ECAC for both men and women, which the ECAC would like since all 12 schools in the conference now play both men and women's. Now if HEA goes with an non-ECAC school like Holy Cross or UConn and the men have to stay in the AHA for now, the women would most likely apply to the CHA. The CHA would be a good fit geographically and the men already play in the same league as current CHA members Mercyhurst, Robert Morris and Niagara. I believe that RIT has gotten assurances from the NCAA that they can move up, even if they are of the wink-wink, nudge-nudge variety. I think RIT is just waiting to see what happens on the men's side before making a decision for the women when there is no rush to do so. Plus they know the men's stuff will be cleared up in the next year so it is not even that long of a wait.

The truth be known folks...neither this guy or anybody else thats sipping the Tiger Kool-aid around the concession stand at RIT has any idea. This type of reporting only adds to the pervasive rumours that have been going around for years. The problem is that kids are being affected by the innuendo and rhetoric found here. "Hey new recruits did you hear RIT is going D1!" "Why don't you come and play here!"
To report that RIT has assurances from the NCAA even if they are the wink, wink, nudge, nudge variety...give me a break!
The NCAA should either step in and make a decision on this team going D1 or not...this bit about using it as a recuiting tool has got to stop. It's not fair to the kids, their parents or the other teams in the league. It's collusion at best. :(

Oh btw did you hear Chatham is going D1 next year?

Having gone with my daughter to visit RIT they were nothing but honest. It was pretty clear to us that going D1 was not imminent but not for a lack of trying ... it really is more uninformed outsiders who seemed to be propagating this line of thinking. So please don't say it is being used as a recruiting tool.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

It is for sure a recruiting tool. Know of girls who are going there based on the fact that they think they will be playing D1.

Maybe they have and those that need to know already do?

And I agree with another poster that RIT personnel have been nothing but honest with respect to this situation. I say this from first hand experience.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

RIT is telling DIII schools they are not scheduling them for next season now.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

Sure...you bet. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge...
I don't know what I said to set you off, but I was just stating my opinion on the matter. If I upset you then I apologize. I was just making a guess based on what the D1 hockey world looks like right now. I know the rumors of RIT going D1 have been going on for awhile, but I think things are actually happening now. Remember no one believed that Penn State would actually go D1 and the Big Ten would start sponsoring hockey, and then it did. Isn't this the point of boards like this to speculate about things? All I know is that RIT is going to do what is best for the school and the program.

Tired of hearing the same thing every recruiting campaign only to have them come back to D3. It's brutal. Let us know when it's official...

You want rumour? ...if and when they do go they'll need a new coach. Chew on that for a bit.

You really have a hate on for them don't you.

This is what you have to admire about 5-4; he's out there working hard every shift, shining a light into the dark corners of ignorance and walking right into the tiger's den to set the record straight without so much as an orange band on his sleeve (caution: mixed metaphor). I worry sometimes that he spreads himself too thin, but then he backs it up by adding the amusement factor to make his point when challenged. Kudos. There are elements of truth to his observation.

Re: >>> RIT Tigers 2011-12 -- Now then, where were we? <<<

As far as I know, the official position on this continues to be: "Not a matter of if we are going D-I but when." When is still TDB.

And just because a team goes D-I, it does not mean it will keep all of its players. The men's team cut 4-5 players from the returning roster when it went D-I and probably kept a few seniors who were over their heads around out of loyalty and because it was a transition year. The team that won the AHA regular season title two years into the move was made up of less than half of the former D-III players, while that freshman class were seniors when the team went to the Frozen Four. A vast change in talent.
