>>>>RIT Tigers 2010-2011<<<<

Re: >>>>RIT Tigers 2010-2011<<<<

Shet? Not really. I spoke to a parent of one of the players on my son's team who knows a kid recruited for next season. They are convinced, and a write up in our local paper after her announcement indicates the same. What up with that?

Your sources don't know what they're talking about. Someone got their signals crossed or heard something wrong. Coach Wilson and Coach McDonald would never make claims like that to either Men's or Women's team recruits. Coming to RIT for most of these kids means getting a good education and playing good hockey. For the girls, maybe something crazy happens and they go D1 sooner than expected. No reason not to dangle that chance. But to say that there would be scholarships (or that RITW would definitely be going D1) would be ludicrous. Both of these men are smart enough to know that.

Because the parent (1) of a player (2) who knows a recruit (3) who heard it from the coaches (4) is soooooo reliable.

Three comments about that:
1. Ever play the game telephone as a child? Important life lessons there, man. Perhaps the girl in question knew the situation at RIT (not entirely out of the question), and extrapolated to conclude that there was a potential to get a scholarship down the road. In musing out loud to your son's teammate, the teammate interpreted it as saying she was going to get a scholarship when they go DI. And then the parent assumed they would only be saying that if the coach had told her that. This succession of events seems the most logical to me.

2. Athletes like to brag when they're being recruited. And they tend to exaggerate/make stuff up. Anything to sound important.

3. "[name] has been given a scholarship to play for [school]" is a very common thing to see in press releases about players committing to schools... even for DIII teams. How does that work? Well, it's the other type of "scholarship", i.e. "admission to a scholarly institution to conduct studies". Don't go reading into the wording of phrases in press releases and news articles. Half the time with DIII athletics, the author of said article doesn't have a ******** clue what they're writing about anyway.

Its all going to end up in court people. RIT, et. al. vs. the NCAA, coming soon to a courtroom near you. There may be an additional plaintiff to this case as well, another current NCAA member looking to move 1 program that the NCAA is battling as well.

I really didn't mean to ruffle your feathers people, and I can certainly understand your logic when interpreting what I have said. I can only tell you that this has happened on more than one occasion, and the latest one seemed pretty clear to me the way this kid is thinking. Hope they do get D1 though. Good luck. :)

News pertaining to RIT from the Norwich Athletics website and the banquet this past weekend.

norwichathletics.com said:
Norwich will tentatively open its 2011 title defense the last weekend in October when it hosts the 2nd Annual East/West Hockey Classic. The Cadets will play perennial powerhouse Elmira and then follow up with a national championship rematch against RIT. Defending ECAC East Tournament champion Manhattanville will also be in attendance and will play RIT the first night and then follow up with Elmira the next day.

These seems to have fallen off the face of the earth. Anyway, Captain info for next year: http://www.ritathletics.com/news/2011/7/26/WHOCKEY_0726115200.aspx

Junior Kim Schlattman (Stratford, Ontario/Cambridge Fury) will serve as the captain, while juniors Tenecia Hiller (Brampton, Ontario/Brampton Thunder), and Ariane Yokoyama (Van Nuys, CA/LA Selects) will serve as assistant captains for the Tigers this upcoming season.

Interesting move, but not surprising having three juniors as the captains next year. The up coming seniors have been disappointing thus far, hopefully they step up in their final year.

RIT also just launched their new website. Looks great, I like how easy it is to get to the videos and highlights.

The video from the Blackout Heart Disease game vs Plattsburgh is still one of the best women's games (weekends) I've ever seen.

Boy, from the press release you'd think Keltie never existed. I hope she continues with coaching; there are far too few women in the hockey coaching ranks.

The story is about Chelsea Walkland, that might have something to do with it. And if you read the incoming class release Coach Jones is mentioned.
I have heard she is coaching one of the junior teams in Ontario

Re: >>>>RIT Tigers 2010-2011<<<<

Raised on garbage plates and played boy's hockey growing up...she should be a good one. Good luck to her.

Any inside info on if EC has hired anyone to fill Shera's spot? I looked up Stevenson's website but there's no mention of her hire.
And does EC release anything on their website about the incoming class?

Geeez. Noooooo not EC inside info on the RIT thread! ...listen, as long as you promise to start your 11/12 thread right after this post and let this dog go to archive... here's what I know.

1) I understand an ECWH AC is in place and that it's a male.

1 & 3) Her 2 year stint at EC should have Shera well accustomed to untimley news releases by her new sports information department then...if you know what I mean. Seriously though her recruiting starts soon...AC's and players.

3) EC player releases don't normally come out until they are done recruiting. ;) Then there's that whole try out thing....

Anybody going to the East/West?

Traditionally, personnel announcements such as this include at least a perfunctory statement about a predecessor moving on to bigger and better things, unless said moving on was announced in a prior press release. Which, AFAIK, this wasn't.
