Interesting, BTW, that RIT's Saunders Business School is advertising on USCHO.

One of USCHO's ad networks is Google's Ad Sense. Ad buyers can target specific sites, keywords on sites, or use geotargeting. So ... it's possibly very localized.

Readers in Massachusetts were getting ads for Scott Brown last month and Minnesota readers were getting some for some ballot initiative that was rankling a few readers. One of our writers went to Europe on business last season and saw European-based ads while there.

Getting back to the regular season, RIT might have an outside chance of being ranked with a sweep over Army and a few things go their way. They were only 14 points out at the last poll.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I'm thinking RIT splits every upcoming series with the outside chance of a sweep vs Army. That gives RIT the title but by a razor thin margin :)

I'm thinking, if we sweep, it's more likely to be at home than at Tate Rink.

I'm also pretty sure the way magic numbers work... if we beat AFA once, we'll get a combined 4 points... so if we beat Army once, and AFA one time.. we'll clinch first!...

6 points gives RIT total of 39 points
AFA could only get 6 more points putting them at 36
SHU can get a total of 12 more points if they win all 6 games, putting them at 39 as well...

.. question is a) does RIT hold the tiebreaker? as they are 3-1 vs. SHU... if not... they can just win another game to make sure SHU can't catch them :D

You are correct about clinching first with 1 win against AF and 1 against army. RIT does have the tie breaker against SHU (the first tie breaker is head-to-head record). If we do not sweep AF, we lose any tie breaker to them. If we do sweep them, then there is no tie.

I know we have the tiebreaker on SHU so a tie in the standings would give us first overall. Still, I'd rather avoid Co-Champion Syndrome. Outright Regular Season Championship Magic Numbers for RIT after last night are as follows.

vs AFA 4
vs SHU 5
vs Mercyhurst 4
vs Canisius 1

RIT already has clinched over everyone else in the AHA.

Yep those kids won't know the true work you had to put into a quarter system. Just gets easier and easier...

Those kids haven't known that true work for about a decade. Retention trumps rigor now. It used to be students were welcomed to orientation with the old "look at the student to your left and to your right, one of them won't graduate from RIT ...". Nowadays, saying that might get you fired. BTW: that used to be the in the President's welcome.

And for MattS. There is plenty of research that shows that learning is more complete when it takes place over a longer period. Fewer start-up and wind-down times in the academic year means more teaching-learning time. The more courses argument goes away somewhat with the 5-for-3 choice that was made and if the faculty are careful with the curricula re-designs, then it goes away completely. That, and being compatible with almost everyone else for transfer, exchange, etc. is very valuable.

Back to hockey. Great shutout last night and the s---p will just about turn out the lights. Ran into a nice gent in Florida with an Air Force hockey hat on yesterday. Had on an RIT shirt, but not my hockey hat. Anyway we had a nice chat and wished each other luck ... until the finals.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Hey RITProf I hear what you are saying and I mostly agree. I kind of like being able to say I graduated at a college were many dropped out. However on the flip side there were Profs out there and I sure still are that had more than half their class with Grades of D, F, or W. All though most of the smarter kids would advoid those profs....

The complete and utter disgrace that is AHA Offciating reared its ugly head tonight at this game. It was all most laughable if these were not college players. The first period was a joke. And it got more laughable as the game went on. Then it just boiled down to incompetence as Alexin was laid out near center with the puck no where near him. Now I did not catch the Army player who did it, but I would not be surprise if it what lead to the elbow that Mazur throw at the end of the game. I am taking the ref word on that as I did not see it, I know that is dangerous.

However, if the box is correct, then someone has to tell how Jeff Smith was fighting? He never dropped his gloves they were tied up in his jersey. He never through a punch. What a joke...

I was thinking the same thing when I saw the poll last week. A sweep at Army is a pretty strong statement that might just get enough attention. It will be interesting to see where things fall tomorrow.

Of course a sweep this coming weekend should do it, if it doesn't happen tomorrow.

so if RIT beats AFA friday, we clinch outright for the conference according to Joe Venniro.. not a bad ending to a lousy start to the season. Makes the old saying, its not how you start, but how you finish, seem true. If we can beat AFA both friday and saturday, our confidence will be through the roof, and I would feel pretty good about our chances. Not to mention it seems everyone is contributing, so I'm liking where we are at at this point in time.

I don't see how. It's still 10 classes where once you could take 15. Sure, some of those 15 are now combined into 2 where once there were 3, but single-quarter electives will become half-year electives and there's just no way to make that work out even.

My math still has a a win and a tie necessary to avoid a Co-Champion Title shared with SHU. Of course if it comes to that, we would have first seed because of tiebreakers.

Today is Chinese New Year, and we're going into the Year of the Tiger. Good sign for RIT.

4 4-quarter-credit classes is the norm now (12 total)
5 3-semester-credit classes will be the new norm (10 total)

With many being sequences, it is very close if not identical. It could be exact in course number by adjusting credit counts as appropriate.

1st time post here.

Does anyone know why the music is played so loud at our home games? The speakers are positioned so as to blast everything right down at the crowd. Even Rocky can be too loud at times.

My objection to this is that it seems to take the crowd out of the game at times. I have noticed that when the action stops, the crowd might be excited about the play or a call by the officials, but the noise stops when the music starts to drown them out.

Good question. It is a bit too loud. My younger daughter (admittedly only 8 and fairly sensitive to loud noise) refuses to go to another hockey game because it is too loud. We're planning to go to BCA for playoffs, but she really doesn't want to go there either because of how loud it was at Ritter.

And yes, of course a loud crowd is part of the game etc. etc.

If its too loud, you're too old! :D

Welcome to the board. It can be a touch loud but generally I like it. I feel like the BCA is too quiet. My main problem has been the selection of music lately. There is one song is particular that sounds like a Ricky Martin song or something... Playing Black Eyed Peas - I Got a Feeling when Ritchie is skating around with the RIT flag under a spotlight I thought was a good touch. It seemed to get the crowd going. It always seemed awkward before. I want Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls blasting before the puck drops again though :)

I do approve of the 2 Rise Against songs that are part of the warm up mix, it just needs to be fewer songs.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

The problem with the audio in the Ritter is that it isn't balanced. It's louder on the sides than at the ends, so the DJ has the volume at the level he is hearing it. I often think the music is too quiet on the window end where I stand for men's games, so I have no doubt it's quieter on the DJ end too.

The music selection is going to get better. I've been working with Cory, the guy taking over the DJing duties from Brian next year. Cory has been doing Women's games and has been requesting music from me so I've been obliging. I gave Brian music last year and he's refused to use it save for maybe two songs, but Cory has been more receptive and it's made the Women's games more enjoyable. Look forward to better DJing at the Men's games next year.

Even though I love the song can we keep "Shipping Up to Boston" to under 3 plays a game? :)

I think the band plays it more than the DJ does. :o
