"This week in Atlantic Hockey" has some bad news...

"RIT forward Tyler Brenner, who was second on the team last season with 35 points, also has a knee injury, but fortunately for the Tigers will miss only a month or two."

http://www.uscho.com/news/college-hockey/id,17410/ThisWeekinAtlanticHockeyNov52009.html

figure he'll a week or two to get back into the swing of things too once he comes back. Gonna be rough to make up that goal scoring

Thoughts and Tidbits for the Army Weekend

The injury to Tyler Brenner is a big deal; RIT Forwards are struggling to put pucks in the net and were bailed out last week by the defense that had a sick weekend scoring goals. Looks like he at least going to miss games against Army, Mercyhearst, and Sacred Heart.

Despite not getting a lot of goals, RIT Forwards have had a lot of chances so the panic is not warranted but they better start putting the puck in the net are DeMike will have to stand on his head for most of the season.
Maybe AIC is for real, a 3 point weekend against Holy Cross and they played RPI tough, losing by a goal. RIT plays at AIC in January, only meeting of the year.

Hate to admit it, but I may be a little more interested in the Sabres game tonight. I think Philly is there first real test of the season; I will go to confession on Sunday.

What is this two friday win's in a row? By the same score? ***? :) Knowles is stepping up, he had a great game, as did Tanev, Ringwald and Demike of course. And whats up with the "Thank you can I have another sir"? Its too long, sounds strange, throws half the crowd off and you guys do the you suck chant the rest of the game so might as well do it in the intro. Go back to "You suck, sir" thanks :D

last week was 6-2...saying "thank you sir, may i have another" is our way of thanking the men who will defend our country, while not being too nice :p

great game tonight. Great to see so many younger players getting points!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I would just like it written for the record that I am not a fan of the Half Time "Cheer". If it half time where is the band and the cheerleaders?

I am all for abolishing this old, out of context cheer!! You don't hear hockey chants at football games, you shouldn't hear football chants at hockey games.

I have only seen cheerleaders in collegiate hockey when I went to a U of Minnesota game in Minneapolis a couple years ago. Even then, save your football chants till Sunday when your watching the NFL (or collegiate games on Saturday afternoons), not when your watching RIT Hockey please.

I meant RIT scored the same number of goals :D

Air Force tied Bentley last night and was outshot by them. If we win tonight and Air Force loses we take over first place and helps make up for getting swept that weekend.

RIT used to have "Cheerleaders on Ice" back in the 80's. It was my wife's (then girlfriend) favorite part of RIT hockey games. Probably 70% of them could barely skate and they would try to do all these synchronized formations, etc. Good times!! :D

Edit: And yes, ditch the halftime cheer (as I already said once!).

A stat i never thought I would see - RIT is ranked 5th in the nation with fewest penalty minutes per game, averaging 10.2.

Thats a big difference from last year where we were usually on the list of highest PIMs somewhere between 15 and 17 or more I believe.

Do you remember the original band with the cheezy polyester brown and orange uniforms, and the conductor on what looked like a set of stairs pushed on the ice.

Who yells "Halftime!" at football games?

Anyway, a note on tonight's game. I saw the game-winning goal on the TV replay and it was completely legit. I don't know what Army was complaining about. It was a bit of a mess, for sure, with Murphy getting ridden down from behind and ending up in the net even before the puck, but the puck went in before the net came off.

Actually, I had forgotten that ... must have blocked it out of my memory. But when you mentioned it, I had a flashback!:o

And ... once again the halftime cheer was done near the end of a powerplay. Bad form ... again!

At least it was quieter tonight; maybe it is slowly fading into oblivion where it belongs!

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

Alright I admit I kind of gave up on the boys about mid way through the second but glad we pulled out the win. Kind of sloppy out there tonight. Looked more like a Friday night game from last year. Either Army played us harder or we just got over confident. I knew we would put it together once we got 1 goal but I wasn't sure we would get that one goal. The big star of the game was DeMicheal. He made some absolutely amazing saves to keep us in that game. This was a huge 4 point weekend for us. Depending on the outcome of the Air Force game tonight this could really position us to take over the top spot in the AHA.

Russell Jaslow's recap of the game has the explanation:

I don't know what else to say about this game except that Army snatched defeat from the jaws of victory. Army played an excellent defensive game and got burned in the end. Quite frankly, I thought Spracklen didn't play all that well. RIT just did a good job of burying shots in the pads of Army's defense. If RIT had worked the puck down low more often this game would have been a completely different animal.

Either way, a win is a win and I'll take it.

4-5. *thumbs up*

and as a side note, I've had it with the Corner Crew. After 5 years as an RIT hockey fan, this year's CC is the least knowledgeable one yet. Even the veteran members have let themselves go and begun to whine and complain about every little thing. As a fan and player of hockey, I have never been more ashamed to be associated with the Corner Crew than I have this year. Oi vey. Learn the rules or shut your mouth.

Like what? I don't sit in the corner nor can I really see them from where I sit (directly behind the RIT bench). I tend to whine about every penalty called on RIT too but I am a homer :D

I got to give credit to Army in the second game. They played a good defensive game (helped some buy our sloppy offense). They came back from a solid beatdown on Friday. Jared DeMichiel bailed the Tigers out.

This game also showed that we need more forwards to step up and start scoring. We can't always rely on the defensemen to score.

So. . . who's going to make the trip to the Mercyhurst games this weekend? I'll be heading past Erie on Friday and will be at the game Friday, but not Saturday.

I don't wanna talk about it. It's a beautiful day out and I don't want to get myself all riled up. :p

I can't believe the tear that Ringwald is on. It's not going to last though. Someone needs to step up (I'm looking at you Matic). The effort has been there but more needs to come from our forwards.

The most disturbing thing this season is something that happens EVERY season, but seems to be happening more early in this season. Any time a penalty is called against us, the crew thinks it's a BS call even though it most often is not. The same can be said for non-calls, icing, offsides etc. The refs aren't ALWAYS wrong.

I was also sitting behind a group of people on Friday who were sitting down during parts of the game and texting. Also not wearing orange. I bring friends to the games all the time who aren't members per se of the corner crew, but they always wear orange, always stand, and always participate in the cheers.
