Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

I don't know where all this complaining about whining is coming from. I didn't hear any more whining at the refs from the CC than normal this weekend. There was more whining about OUR play and yelling at OUR players to get their heads out of their posteriors and play like they wanted it.

Edit: I think the most complaints were about the lack of icing calls for Army. Quite a few of them were like "How was that not icing?"

Now if you were referring to the "We want Foote" chant - that was a bit much. As much as I think Foote is one of the better refs in the AHA, I don't think that last night's crew was terrible.

Pizza on the grill is definitely a keeper -- thanks for the idea, Chris. The quality depends a lot on the coals since we don't have grills that can adjust the height from the coals, but overall it was pretty good.

and as a side note, I've had it with the Corner Crew. After 5 years as an RIT hockey fan, this year's CC is the least knowledgeable one yet. Even the veteran members have let themselves go and begun to whine and complain about every little thing. As a fan and player of hockey, I have never been more ashamed to be associated with the Corner Crew than I have this year. Oi vey. Learn the rules or shut your mouth.

Last year I pitched an idea to athletics to have a "hockey 101" program where people who are unfamiliar with hockey get to learn basic strategy and rules... it's a great idea but it stalled for a few reasons. Maybe that would be a great CC program, though?

Are we doing B2 this weekend? I'm sure a few of the diehards plan on making the trip to Erie, but who's going to be around on campus? And is anyone interested in meeting to plan some things for the CC and/or tailgating -- meeting at the midnight breakfast could be fun but people going to Erie would miss out. Ideas?

I like this idea a lot.

For example, on saturdays game a individual who i have seen at many games in years past was yelling at the linesman for a penalty when he had his arm up for an offsides.

Linesmen don't call penalties.

Glad you liked it. Much easier with a gas grill (temperature control wise). Did you use a pre-baked crust or dough? I use the Wegmans pre-made dough. First couple times I did it I made the dough from scratch but that was waaaaaay too much work :)

Linesmen can call too many men on the ice at least in the NHL. I am not sure if that's true in NCAA, but if I am wrong I am sure I will be corrected :P But yeah essentially linesmen don't call penalties.

A while back (maybe even in the offseason thread), someone was asking about pictures of older RIT jerseys. Are you still looking for said pictures? I may be able to help. I have a decent sized jersey collection featuring examples of basically every design from the present back to about 1999. What I mean by basically every design is that since they've gone to the "Tiger Head" jerseys starting in 2005, I've not purchased one every single time they've gone up for sale, and my away "Tiger Head" jersey (from the original batch in 2005) varies slightly from what is worn today (the tiger itself is a little different, and there was also no league patch that year). I don't think the white jerseys have changed at all, except for the change this year to a Bauer logo from Nike (they're actually the same company, AFAIK).

I also have an even older jersey I came across on E-bay some time ago that appears to be the design that the 1982-83 National Championship team wore, however, I'm not sure how authentic it is. It does not have a fight strap (although I believe that the quarter & skate lace method was still in use at that time, not sure what RIT had), is not as heavy as modern jerseys, and also seems a little smaller cut. May also be a women's jersey too.

Anyhow, if this person is still looking for pictures, I'd be happy to photograph my collection. Even if you're not, perhaps we could start some sort of RIT jersey history page (maybe on the Corner Crew site). I know that some of the guys who have been around longer than me have jerseys going back a ways, it would be fun to see how far back into RIT hockey history we could get with contributor photos.

You know I walked down to the Corner after (I watched this game from the blueline on the RIT shot twice side) and all of the "veterans" seemed to agree that the game winning goal did not go in so at least from being fair I think there a lot of class there.

All I will about the game winnner, I can't swear by it like the "controversial" post in the Mercyhurst game a few year ago which I still swear did not go in, but from my naked eye I don't think it was a goal. I thought the net was off before it crossed the line, it was very close.

Now of all nights, this is a bad one to complain about the yelling at the officiating cause it was horrible all night. The linesmen even were driving me crazy, note to the linesman, the visting team has to put their stick down first, lets just start there. Faceoff management was terirble last night. I am not sure what is with this duo of Taddeo and Troup, but they seem to be unable to stay out of a game and advoid controversial situations this year. I was impressed last night by Foote and I think Pete Feola is the best College hockey referree in the area, despite his Elmira handicap...

I was very lucky today to run into DeMike and give him congratulations on a great night. That glove save in the third saved the game, that is the kind of goaltending performance this team has been needing for a while.

I thought Army played a much better game Saturday especially in their defensive zone. but I thought also RIT played much worst, lots of little mistakes and again some forwards missed the nets on shots that have to hit the net. The shorthanded goal was just bad luck. Tyler Mazzi needs to take a deep breath and calm down. He trying to hard at this point. Also its escaping me who did it, but after RIT took the lead, a defenseman made a terible pinch at the line giving Army an odd man rush, never should happen.

Despite not the best played game, I give the boys credit, they hung in there worked through it and came up with a big win backed by great goaltending. If your going to win a title these are types of wins you need to have.

I will be at Mercyhurst next weekend, be kind its my Birthday Saturday!

Final note to the TV guys, they will not go to commerical after an icing, that is a rule, wait I am a corner crew member and I know the rules?????

It was a Boboli-type crust; it was really easy on lots of levels (no pan and easy to put on/take off the grill). The first try burned a little until I pushed the coals far to the sides; the 2nd attempt the coals were too cool so the cheese didn't melt all the way. The next day went a lot smoother :)

In my 5th year of going to nearly every RIT home game, I thought our "game winning goal" on Saturday night was definitely not a goal from my angle on the face-off dot to the right of the Army goalie. Looked clearly like the net came off and them Murphy went into the goal area along with the puck.

Also, goalies don't get that hot about a goal they let in unless they are 100% sure that it shouldn't be ruled a goal.

At the time I had felt that the NCAA followed the standard that so long as the net being dislodged did not effect the scoring of the goal, that the goal would be allowed. However, after checking the NCAA rule book, it would be correct in saying that this goal should not have been allowed. The NCAA does not allow the net to be off in any manner prior to a goal being scored. And it had definitely been dislodged before hand.

However, I have the image in my head of the net being elevated on its moorings, coming back down, and then being dislodged. Is it possible that the puck crossed the line in the time in which the net was in between dislodgings? Could that have been some kind of loophole? I missed the replay of the game today, but if anyone did see the replay, is this what happened?

Otherwise it definitely should not have counted and I don't blame Joe for losing his mind. I would have too.

Someone said they watched the replays on tv and couldn't definitively tell which happened first. they seemed to happen at the same time.

I don't think they replayed it yesterday, but it is on today at 4pm.

Re: >>>>> RIT TIGERS 2009-2010 <<<<< Rockin' The Ritter For Another Year

If we didn't have the goal pegs like we do for the first time this year the net would have been against the end boards and an obvious no-goal on Saturday. Assist to Stu and his crew. I don't think the puck crossed the line before the net was dislodged and we stole the game on a very close but wrong call. I had a decent vantage point across from the band and had a good lane to see the puck, too.

It used to be, at least for a while, that a goal could count in the NCAAs if the net was dislodged (under certain conditions) before the puck crossed the line. That rule was revised at some point and no longer applies as far as I can tell.

In every game there is an officials' margin of error. A close game can be won or lost inside of that margin of error. Odds are that you will win some and lose some of these games. If you want to win decisively must play above the officials' margin of error. This was not the case for either team on Saturday.

Regarding Army's play on Saturday, nobody has mentioned how well Army was blocking shots and disrupting passes in their zone. As the game wore on this became more evident. Army played well in front of their new goalie and RIT was trying too hard to make things happen. On our power plays in the third period some fans were screaming for RIT to shoot the puck (one woman near me especially - she must drive truck for a living). The answer was not to pepper this defense with shots on Saturday - they weren't getting through to the goalie. RIT needed to relax a little and not try to force things so much.

Anton Kharin is off to a hot start in the ECHL. Sounds like he got injured though:

After spending the past three seasons playing for Division I powerhouse Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), this is Kharin's first full season of professional hockey.

When did we become a Division I powerhouse?

When the marketing group of that team wanted to promote one of its players :D
