RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Personally I'm not a fan of doing a banner raising ceremony unless you won the national championship. By all means put the banner up for things like making the NCAA tourney / frozen four, but I feel a pregame ceremony is reserved for winning it all. That's the way Hockey East teams do it...

Yes, but RIT is not a Hockey East school. For most schools (at least most Big-4's), I would agree with that philosopy. However, given the circumstances around last season's run by the Tigers, it was quite a different situation. RIT was in only their 3rd year of tournament eligibility, offering no scholarships, belonging to the not quite so competitive AHA, etc... That run was monumental for that team, the program, the school, and even the Rochester community. It was a BIG DEAL, and most likely will not happen again for the foreseeable future, for all we know. It deserved to be celebrated with at least a pre-game acknowledgement of the banner if nothing else. I'm sure that neither Miami nor Wisconsin hung banners for their runs to the FF last year. But to established Big-4 programs, coming in 2nd or merely being a semi-finalist is good, but definitely not ceremony or banner worthy.

I do agree, however that the East Regional Champs and Frozen Four banners are redundant. Winning the East Regional is how they got to the Frozen Four. One couldn't exist without the other also being true (the fact that there are three other regionals being somewhat irrelevant since RIT was not in any of those others). And I also cringe at "Participation" trophies (or banners in this case). Get rid of the FF banner! Although I guess if they had made one banner that said: 2010 NCAA D-I East Regional Champions with some footnote-like reference to the Frozen Four or maybe last year's FF logo, that would have been ok. Not to mention that I still think last year's FF logo was the coolest one they've come up with by far :).

I agree. Championship banners or nothing.

I use to laugh at Elmira that they had NCAA Appearance banners hanging. How pathetic.

I scoffed at that as well. Although in their defense, they have no national championships to celebrate (unlike Neumann... hah!). I think it is fair to say that the day they finally do win the D-III National Championship, all those NCAA 2nd place, 3rd place, 4th place, and Tournament banners will be pushed aside so their NC banner can be as prominent as physically possible. Actually winning can change the outlook on the importance of the participation awards rather quickly.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!! You're not serious, are you?? ;):D:D:D

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

The banners are redundant, but I say keep the Frozen Four banner. It's a remarkable accomplishment.

BTW, the first time RIT went to Cornell I took some pictures and they had NCAA tournament banners.

Don't we have an NCAA appearance banner in the Ritter for the 06-07 women's team?

That they do. IIRC, they never use to but when they revamped Lynah, they removed a single large banner on the end that had the NCAA appearances listed.

Got me. I don't pay attention to women's hockey.

RIT (or whomever) can do whatever they want. I am just voicing my opinion that I think anything less than Championship banners are a waste. It like saying "We were good in year XXXX, but not the best." For me that is like settling for less. Not what I want or would do.

If you think that's bad...I'm about 98% sure they have ECAC West semifinalist banners hanging now.:o

How about painting last year’s FF logo on the side of arena or on one of the interior walls and keeping it up for a couple of years to recognize the phenomenal season last year. . It's quite the accomplishment to make it to the Frozen Four and it something that should be recognized and shown off.

That's not a bad idea. I like the idea of recognizing the accomplishment in some way. I just think banners are for championships.

It is, but IMHO that is what the East Regional Champions banner celebrates - what they actually WON to earn their way to the FF.

I think it's a matter of symantics. East Regional Champion sounds great - but to be Frozen Four sounds better - even though they are the same thing.

Derek you really starting to look like a little puppy barking at the big dogs (or Tigers) feet. No one cares about that game anymore and in a slight sad way every RIT/Elmira game is fading away into the haze of time. But hey we have Niagara in our league now so we can pretend that we are beating up on Elmira since your both purple *******...

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

So we went into cornell and conquered, now were going to kill air force sunday!!

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Does that really matter anymore to anyone besides a handful of (or maybe 1) Elmira fans?

I call shenanagins. Listen. Yes you've moved on to D-I and have been finding success. However, you never forget your roots and you can't tell me that loss doesn't still sting everytime you think about it considering the way it was lost.

You lost the final game to your arch-rival on home ice when you were leading 6-2 with five minutes to go and two of the EC goals were scored shorthanded. That has to go down as one of the best comebacks in D-III in the last decade if not ever.

The victors write history remember. You can't honestly tell me that if RIT won that game you wouldn't try and stick it to EC fans anytime Elmira did something of significance.

That night will forever live as one of my fondest hockey memories and as you all know I've seen some pretty amazing things considering the Manhattanville/Elmira endings the last few years, Oswego winning the NC in 2007, the Oswego/Platty SUNYAC final in 2008, Romney Farewell, etc....

That game will still rank right up there. For all the times I walked out of the Ritter with my head down, being able to walk out that night with a win was incredible.
