RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Does that really matter anymore to anyone besides a handful of (or maybe 1) Elmira fans?

It still makes me cringe every time it's brought up (usually by the same poster). Yes, the program has moved on to bigger and better things, but for better or worse, that was the biggest thing in its day. And I still think the last half of that season was a colossal embarrasment capped off by that wonderful game at home against the team's # 1 rival of all time. It's kind of hard to forget about after watching the program try to return to the top of the D-III mountain through nearly 19 seasons without success then to see a seemingly capable tournament contender go down in flames the way that one did. So, yes, historically speaking, it still does matter to some of us.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I call shenanagins. Listen. Yes you've moved on to D-I and have been finding success. However, you never forget your roots and you can't tell me that loss doesn't still sting everytime you think about it considering the way it was lost.
And you'll always be around to remind us, too. :P

You can't honestly tell me that if RIT won that game you wouldn't try and stick it to EC fans anytime Elmira did something of significance.
Quite honestly, if RIT had won, it probably would have faded into the tapestry in my mind made up of all the exciting memories of the RIT-EC rivalry over the years. There were so many hard fought, nationally important contests with fantastic finishes between those two that only an embarrassing loss like that last one really sticks in my craw more than the others. I've never used any one particular win by RIT to taunt EC fans (but then again that's not my style). But if I were to, a win in that game wouldn't have meant nearly as much (especially considering how relatively meaningless it would have been to the standings) as the ECAC West title game of 1994 in Elmira or the one in the early 2000's (I can't remember the exact year - getting old) at RIT when RIT won on a tip-in with less than 1 second left on the clock.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

I would have. :)

Well, I figured you would have. :P

btw: I just have to ask... How many of these former rival schools (seen in your signature) of RIT did you attend? You seem to have a personnal attachment to far too many ECAC D-III programs. You don't actually have that many degrees, do you? :)

I can't remember the year but it was Sam Hill. RIT won 4-3.

Don't forget the "burn baby burn" Mike Bournazakis goal too.

Attended Elmira games since I was five. They have always been and always will be my #1 team.

Went to Oswego starting in fall 2005 and then graduated in spring 2009.

Worked in Gloversville for 9 months (in between Utica and Albany) and then just started a Sports Information job here at Norwich in September.

Maybe RIT is next some day ;)

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

So we went into cornell and conquered, now were going to kill air force sunday!!

Don't discount Air Force. They are tough to beat at home. And they may be pretty despirate for AHA wins. While I think RIT will come out of it with a win, it won't be east. Points on the road - particularly against the Western pod - are vital to securing a bye in the first round with the stupid playoff format.

I can't remember the year but it was Sam Hill. RIT won 4-3.

If that's the game TigerFan meant, the goal came with two seconds remaining and it wasn't a tip-in; Hill took a pass at the left boards and brought it in himself.

Loudest I've ever heard the Ritter.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Just wanted to give all you fans of RIT Hockey a heads up that there is a jersey from RIT up for auction at www.obermanauction.com. (Not to mention some other great college hockey items). The auction is going to help raise funds for the head Men's Hockey Equipment manager at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Chris Garner. The auction is to help offset medical costs (not covered by insurance) incurred from a bone marrow transplant Chris had in August. He is doing well now and hoping to be back at work by mid to late November. The auction ends on Monday, November 8th, so please check it out.....www.obermanauction.com is the auction site again. Thank you!

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

Good to see some splits this weekend, though I wouldn't have minded if RoMo lost both nights. Increasing the point entropy elsewhere is good for us, in general.

Looks like Mercyhurst really lit up Air Force too, hope that doesn't light a fire for them.

Watch it, Derek! Have you forgotten already how it ended up when you posted this:

12/16/09
Always have and always will be my second team. I loved going to Oswego and the players on the team when i got to know them but Elmira is always going to be home. I've been going to their games since I was 5. Not going to just jump ship to my alma mater because they are #1 and have won a NC.

By the time I'm all said and done I might even end up in the CCCP region someday:cool:

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

There won't be a B2 Networks video feed tonight. Air Force hockey SID Dave Toller tells me the motherboard on their B2 computer fried on Friday and a new one is on its way, but not in time for today's game.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

It looks like that info is accurate. On the B2 site, it says "This broadcast has been canceled" underneath the link for the RIT/AFA game. What a bummer. Good thing we have enthusiastic radio guys.

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

What no weekend turnaround for a new part or an IT guy who can build another computer??? Why am I paying taxes!!!

Re: RIT 2010-11: What do Tigers dream of?

So Coach Wilson indicated in the postgame interview that the team just kind of stopped playing after those first two goals. But that's not much of an explanation. I mean, surely the entire team didn't just up and take it easy the rest of the game because they had a lead, right? They didn't just all ignore the coaches and stop working hard, right? From the radio broadcast, it sure sounded like Spivak was working hard, for instance.

No question the Tigers were outworked tonight, but was it really a particularly lax effort, or did Air Force just overwhelm somehow? It just doesn't make sense that the entire team would, in unison, play like crap just because they got a lead.
