Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Here's the other issue re: coming in early and the weekend. If you refuse they may try to bust your *** for insubordination and try to fight your unemployment claim. Judging from what we've been told here, this group of imbeciles might try something like that.

Proceed with caution.

I agree. Unless you decide to confront them on the rumors and get some sort of answer today (which, if it were me, I would be too nervous to do so I totally understand if you don't take this route), I would continue to do your job. You can tell people you worked early, late and weekends and they still got rid of you. Oh! Maybe you could transcribe the whole brief and not give it to them! You know, hold it hostage for something. :)

It's Friday kids! Yay!

Good point. Another tactic is that they may try and make things so unbearable for you that you will resign and therefore not be able to collect unemployment.

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

I just went out to eat with my gf, we went to burger jones in uptown. They have poutine! I was extremely excited because poutine is my favorite canadian delicacy. I also had a white trash burger, 1/2 lb patty with a slab of velveeta, 2 strips of chicken-fried bacon and cheese curds. Mmm, highly recommended for those of you in the twin cities.

The poutine sounds amazing. That burger, though... then again, I don't care for Velveeta.

'Morning, Lodge. I should not have skipped breakfast this morning. I'm starving, and extra jittery from the coffee. :(

Drinking some water will help with the jitters; as for breakfast, see if you can find a granola bar or some fruit, anything to help settle your stomach.

When you are hired you are generally told yer hrs.... So unless you agreedto be on call 24/7, when asked to work weekends you can decline and it not be actionable. "oh so sorry... I've plans for the weekend. See you Monday"

Lawyers tend to not care about hours. Especially successful ones. Big money = long hours, and they are the most important people in the world. It's somewhat impressive to see some of these people sacrifice everything else in their lives (hobbies, outside interests, even their spouses and kids) to grind out the 18+ hour days. (You can replace "impressive" with "sad", and "somewhat" with "incredibly".)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Are you sure they're actually replacing you and not just hiring more help. Because it sounds like you're being a much better employee then I will ever be.
Yes, positive.
I think this assessment is pretty generous.

I think you should view this as a blessing, devote the next couple of weeks into finding a new job and you'll probably end up better off.
That's what I keep telling myself. I'm on a rollercoaster of emotion: relief, terrified, relief, terrified, etc. I've also stopped sleeping well, which probably makes this worse.

Here's the other issue re: coming in early and the weekend. If you refuse they may try to bust your *** for insubordination and try to fight your unemployment claim. Judging from what we've been told here, this group of imbeciles might try something like that.

Exactly. I had plans this weekend (not unbreakable ones, but plans nonetheless), but figured that it would be good to show commitment to the firm and come in (thinking I can save my job for slightly longer). Also, I'll have racked up approximately 6 hours of overtime by the end of today (came into to today having worked 37.25 hours), so any time over the weekend will also pad the next check.

I agree. I am quaking about confronting them, but have decided that Monday is the day - putting it off will only make it that much work. I'm working on a ridiculous brief that is due Monday and once it's out the door, there really aren't any more excuses.

Good point. Another tactic is that they may try and make things so unbearable for you that you will resign and therefore not be able to collect unemployment.
Heh -- they have no idea how much I can put up with. :o

I was hired to work 8:30-5 with "additional overtime for trial prep and as necessary". (note - we haven't even had any trials this summer - I dread to think what the fall will bring)

Exactly.

Okay - back to it.

Right, if its due monday at 8, they sure as heck can't fire you when you come in with it on at 7am. And then, well, they already gotta pay you four hours for coming it, and well, might as well get you to work the rest of next week. However, I would be tempted to get some straight answers out of those clowns about the new person they're interviewing ewe.

Off to the Chiroprators, and then I'm headed to Texas!! :D

Good morning Lodge. I have been out of the loop the last couple days. Stoop vs. porch. w t f ? ;)

Look here you mental pygmy, don't concern yourself with the intellectual subtleties of stoop vs. porch as they are far beyond your grasp. Jethro, why don't you and Ellie Mae just meander on out to the cement pond like you usually do this time of day? Leave the deep thinking to LODGE members with real horse sense, like Big74. :D

Enjoy your weekend in West Central Bumpkinville. ;)

I cannot wait to wipe that smirk off your face with the very same broom that BSU uses against PU of Magness in the very near future. :D :p

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Anyone have a res for the F4 yet in Detroit? I'm looking at Dearborn right now, Ritz specifically. Seems like not a long drive in... The westin in DET seemed a bit pricy at 280/per

I take it you are referring to the Wine Bowl. Or in your case the Whine Bowl. :D

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Gonzo, Regarding your rep....perhaps you should contact gmann as he deludes himself into thinking he has some expertise in the area of living it up as a single on a bachelor's weekend.

Be forewarned: his input is liable to be sleep inducing. ;)

Re: Rep Retirement Lodge 81: Trickle-Down Lodganomics

Morning Lodge

Mrs. and I booked another cruise this morning for the end of January. :)
We're going to fly down to Ft. Lauderdale a couple of days early and stay at the W hotel. I anticipate warmth. :D

Yes, I am single guy this weekend as Mrs. is going to Duluth to see her mom. I will be doing some crazy azz stuff, like hanging nesting boxes in my chicken coop, mowing the yard, and perhaps staying up until midnight!
I've thrown a couple back with gmann before, he's not as tame as you may think ;) :D

Gonzo= Throw back a few drinks
gmann= Throw up a few drinks

Big difference. :p

I believe we booked at the Hilton.

I got mine booked. Bought it last week. Nice place just outside of Ann Arbor. Bit of a drive to Detroit, but who would want to stay there?

I thought everyone in the Lodge was crashing at trumpet's? :D

Oh, crap, perhaps I've said to much. Reservations for wT's are being accepted. I accept cash and sexual favors. Oh, perhaps now I have said too much.
